Started taking thyroid pills and those to reduce appetite.  Ray worked.  Dr. Otten buried today.

Nurse’s last visit.  Ray worked midnight-8 a.m. Sunday.

Started new vitamin capsules and red beans from Dr. Romence.  Velma, Frances and Melfrances [friends] were out.  I served lemon pie.

Marge gave me a “Toni”.  Sent order to Montgomery Ward for slipcover material.  Order came from M.W. – yellow scarf and socks for L.R.  Socks came from Mother D.

Ray, Pat and M.E. went to S.S.   I cut out L.R.’s circle dress.  Ray sang at Church of God.  Mr. Becker [neighbor] was killed.  Ray went there later.

Ray went to funeral home to see Mr. Becker.

Ray sang at Mechanicsburg.  Mr. Becker was buried.

Package of sheets, cases, wash cloths, towels and aprons came from Mother D.  Cousin Willis was out.  Ray went to Hagler’s.

Wrote letter to Mother D.  Ray went to work at midnight.  Eileen came, also Mrs. Godley.

Ray’s quartet met here tonight.  Tom Kane was here and took children up on avenue.  Margaret Troy invited children there tomorrow.

Mother’s Day.  Ray and Jim gave me an ironing board, Pat-candy, L.R.-plant, M.E. - darner.  Children went to Troy’s for dinner.  Ray went to church in a.m. & p.m.  Children went to S.S. and church.

I had tonsilitis over the weekend.  Bob out tonight.  Gave him my old ironing board.  After he left, Jim & Ray went out for hamburgers and malted milks.

Recipe file came.  Doctor came out in eve. to see M.E.  He said it was caused by poison from tonsils or teeth.

M.E. is a little better.  Mr. Diller brought flowers for M.E.

Wrote to Mother D.  Rode out to H. Monroe’s in eve.  Stopped at Sangamon Dairy for sodas.

Ray painted kitchen.  Aunt Helen was here.  Got dresses, etc. and feed sacks from Mrs. Godley.  Rained a little.

Cousins Mary and Willis came out around suppertime.  He offered to pay my expenses for 1 month at Kabot-Kaiser Institute.

Went to Hangsleben’s [Elsie & Otto].  Jim didn’t come home.

Went to quartet meeting at Willson’s.  Jim got home at 9 p.m.  We stopped at Lorene’s for a minute to get gifts for Aunt Helen and Margaret Baker.

Ray painted back hall.  We had Aunt Helen, Ed and Marge out for supper.  It was Aunt Helen’s birthday.

Carol came out and took children to town.  Ray went to work at midnight.  He took Kabot-Kaiser literature back to Dr.

Ray took 3 children and Carol to S.S.  Cousin Willis was to come out but didn’t.  Mother went to Jacksonville.  Aunt Helen came in eve. to visit for a while.  Ray went to church.

We all went out to laundromat.  Had clothes dried there too.  L.R. started at vacation bible school at Elliott Ave. [Baptist Church].  Rained and I got wet getting in house.

Ray’s quartet met at a friend of Charlie Weaver’s.  George Bonn came out and brought a box of candy.

Funny papers and pillow slips made from sacks from Mother D.  Maureen sick today so L.R. stayed home.  Suzie Kay (?) got burned on legs.

Thursday, June 24, 1948

Norine and children and Ruth and children came to Aunt Helen’s.  Ray, Mother, girls and I went over in eve. to see them.  Ray off.

Norine, Ruth and children were here for supper.  Ray worked tonight.

Ray washed clothes.  L.R., M.E. and I went too.  Mrs. Roberts came to car and said Ruth White is in town and invited me out tomorrow.  Wrote to Warren [Sutton]  and Alice [Cantrall].

Quartet met at our house.  I went out to Mrs. Roberts’ to see Ruth White.

Aunt Fannie, John, Peggy and Sandy were here for supper.  Cousin Willis called about treatments at St. John’s.

Went to St. John’s for first treatment.  Bob and Marge out in eve.  L.R.’s program at Elliott Ave. Baptist Church.  Ray and M.E. went.

Ray worked today.  Children shot fireworks in eve.  Took present to Lorene.  Cousin Willis called re treatments.

Ray painted cabinets in kitchen.  Marge came out and washed and set my hair, and gave a Toni in hair in back.  She washed L.R.’s too.

Went down to Ruby [Aunt Georgie’s daughter] and Bud’s [Long].  Ray took children to S.S.

Ray’s quartet sang at Athens.  Charles Kiser brought gift from girls at office.  Cousin Willis was out.  Received card from Mother and Dad Durst.

Lorene was out in morning and brought scarf and handkerchief; hose on order.  S.S. Class met at Lillian Richardson’s.  Aunt Helen came.  I received dress from Ray & Jim; candy, Pat; dish towels, M.E.; thimble, L.R.; dress, Mother; cologne, Mystery Pal; $5.00, Dursts; $50, Cousin Willis.  Ray took clothes to laundromat.

Ray’s mother and dad arrived at 4:30 p.m.  Ray went to work at midnight.  Mrs. Yocom gave L.R. shampoo and set.

Dad took children to S.S.  Went to church in eve. to hear quartet.  Eileen and Jane were here in morning.

Aunt Helen sent comb. over.  Sent it back by Charles and Carol.  Ray went to Ashland to sing.

Went out to Eileen and Junior’s.  Got 3 chickens, 3 doz. eggs and cucumbers.

Had fried chicken.  Sent to Montgomery Ward for comb. and tool chest from Sears.

Eileen came in.  Cousin Willis was here.

Went to hospital for treatment.

Mother and Dad Durst left.  Ray went to work at midnight.

Went down to Ruby’s.  Bad storm.  Got home 9:30 p.m.  Brought corn, tomatoes, and cucumbers home.

Made bread & butter pickles.  Went to hospital for treatment.

Ray took L.R. to Dr. Romence.  Went out to Bob’s.  Marge fixed my hair.  Ray went to church.  Tool chest came.

Went to Earl Johnson’s for picnic supper in yard for operating engineers.  Aunt Helen came over to stay with Mother.

Treatment at hospital.  Ray’s quartet sang at South Fork.  Took Pat.  Mom, girls and I went to Aunt Helen’s.  Comb. came from M.W.

Ray went to work at midnight.  I darned socks and listened to radio.

Ray slept until 5 p.m.  Had supper and drove out to A. Monroe’s.  Pat went to a show.

Made kosher dill pickles; also baked a cake.  Treatment at hospital.  Ray washed clothes.  Aunt Helen sent gorgeous bouquet of magic lilies.

Letters from Mother D. and Warren.  Ray has to work 4-12.  Called Eileen.  She and Junior came in and brought eggs.

Ray worked 4-12.  Girls went with Mrs. Yocom to Lalla Rooke Ice Cream Social and then out to her sister’s.

Went out to Eileen’s to let children play; took Maureen.  Brought roasting pan back.  Pearl Jones and Mrs. Godley here.

Went to hospital for treatment.  Ray’s quartet met here tonight.  Served sherbet and cookies.

Ray went to work at midnight.  Talked to Dr. Romence about L.R. and self.  Bertha Cudworth died.

Sunday, August 8, 1948

Ray took children to S.S.  We took a ride in eve. out to fairgrounds.  Saw Beckers and stopped at Baker’s later.  Ray went to Bisch’s to see Bertha.

Went to hospital for treatment.  Bertha Cudworth was buried. Ray washed.

Tuesday, August 10, 1948

Letter from Mother D.  Ray, M.E., Pat, L.R. and I went to my S.S. class picnic at Lake.  Also took Maureen.  Mother went to Aunt Helen’s.

All of us went out to Eileen’s for a picnic supper.  Also took Maureen, Aunt Georgie and Ruth Ann.  Gowns and slip came today.

Called Virginia to cancel reservation for Wednesday.  Went to hospital for treatment.  Cousin Willis and Mary , also Mrs. Godley, here in morning.  Mother, children, Ray and I went to drive-in theatre.
