Shortened M.E.’s turquoise dress. Worked on Georgia Coulter’s dress. M.E. and Ruth fixed dinner and had Bob & Marge here. Jerry, Bob and Peggy came tonight and they played “Monopoly”. M.E. picked up 2 doz. eggs at Mother’s for 90 cents. Mabell Taylor phoned.

Worked on Georgia Coulter’s dress. Linda helped cut out Arta’s red wool dress. Georgia came in aft. for fitting. Midge Oller brought piping for her red print dress this eve. Ruth went with Mel [Hughes] and bought new coat. Carol Sue [Jagow] brought over 3 dresses from Roland’s and I chose one. Linda went for a pizza with Jerry. M.E. went out with Bob Shores for a little while.

M.E. had to work this a.m. Ruth went home at 9:30 a.m. Jim here about noon. He starts working for a feed company Monday. I worked on Georgia’s dress.

2" snow – low temp. minus 3 degrees. No one went to church as Jerry couldn’t start his car. He came out at 5 p.m. with Bob Bastas. Ruth came back at 6 p.m.

Finished Midge’s red print dress – she picked it up at 5:45 p.m. and paid $5.00. Worked on Georgia Coulter’s dress. Bob [Shores]and Mel [Hughes] came back from Moline – no jobs. Bob is starting at Allis-Chalmers tomorrow. M.E. and Ruth went out with them tonight. Sent letters to Aunt Georgia, Marian, and Ken & Anne.

Cousin Mary died at 12:50 a.m. today. I worked on Arta’s red wool dress. Ruth got groceries on way home from work. Uncle Rob ordered flowers for Spaulding funeral – card to include my name.

Worked on Arta’s red dress. Uncle Rob bought groceries for us today. Mr. Diller brought material for a robe for him in a.m. Ruth went to Virden. Linda had a date with Jerry.

Wrote letters to Elsie and Norine. Cousin Mary buried today. Bob and Marge went and came out here later. Smiths brought flowers after they left. Jane Olah and her sister were here with material for a jumper. Arta came for a fitting. Cousin Willis, Fred, Lorene, Malford and Bernice here later.

Finished Arta’s red wool dress. She picked it up this eve. and paid $6.00. Cousin Willis, Fred, Cousin Mary’s niece and husband from Ohio came this morning to see my lift which they think might be satisfactory for her mother who is 93 years old. Ruth went home tonight. Linda had a date with Jerry, and M.E. left at 10 p.m. with Bob Shores and his cousin.

Linda and Jerry went to church. Georgia came for her dress in aft. and paid $6.00. I worked on Jane Olah’s brown dress. Linda went out to Bartlett’s in eve. Ruth came back about 10 p.m.

Finished Jane’s dress – Midge picked it up and paid $5.00. Linda cut out Clem Guthrel’s red jumper. Aunt Ethel & Uncle Rob here in aft. Uncle Rob took my income tax form to turn in. Bess Kenney came, too, and left black slip to be shortened. Uncle Rob got groceries for us, and M.E. and Ruth got some tonight. M.E. went to hospital to see Bob Shores who broke his ankle riding his motorcycle.

Worked on Clem’s red jumper. Went to S.S. class meeting at Esther Search’s. Clifford [Search] came for Linda and me and brought us home. Sears brought washer back. Judy told me Mrs. Henninger [ neighbor] is filing for divorce.

Worked on Clem’s red jumper. Sears installed washer this aft. Bob Shores went home from hospital this afternoon. Linda cut out Mr. Diller’s robe. Ruth and Linda had dates tonight.

Finished Clem’s jumper and she picked it up tonight – paid $4.50. Nell Riley and granddaughter came at 3:30 and left material and pattern for dress for latter. M.E. went to a show and L.R. to a Rainbow Girls meeting with Dorothy. Ruth took them and Mr. Turner brought Dorothy and Linda home. Gus here a little while in a.m.

Dad and Mother got groceries for us this a.m. Mrs. Olah came while they were here and brought material and pattern for a dress (lt. green wool). Nell Riley brought small dress pattern for granddaughter and eyelet binding. M.E. met a girlfriend downtown this aft. Linda had a date with Jerry.

Linda and Jerry didn’t go to church as his car is being repaired. He had his Dad’s tonight. M.E. went for a Coke with Peggy McFann. I worked on Mr. Diller’s robe.

Worked on Mr. Diller’s robe. Uncle Rob brought groceries and picked up Aunt Ethel’s red coat, a letter from Dorothy McKinnie, and Bess Kenney’s black slip, which I shortened – paid 50 cents.

Worked on Mr. Diller’s robe. Linda cut out Jane Olah’s green wool dress tonight. Lights went out at 8:30 p.m. – TV out of commission. Went to bed early to get warm. Limbs of trees broken all over town due to ice storm. Our birch tree-top touches the ground.

Finished Mr. Diller’s robe, except buttonholes as buttons not delivered yet. No school today on account of limbs and live wires down all over town. Our lights came on sometime early this a.m. Ruth was off work at 3 p.m. Mel came at 5:30 p.m. He brought M.E. home. Bob Reed’s TV Service fixed TV for $10 this aft.

Buttons came in mail today – sewed them on and made buttonholes in Mr. Diller’s robe. He got it this aft. I charged $10 but he gave me a check for $20. Pretty generous! Linda home again today. Sun shining but plenty cold. She took some pictures of ice scenes. M.E. and Ruth went to basketball game at Armory. Mel and Bob came. Bob’s foot is still in a cast. I started on Mrs. Riley’s granddaughter’s dress.

Schools are open today and of course Linda went. I worked on yellow dress. Uncle Rob got groceries for me in aft. M.E. and Ruth picked up her dress at Sears (one I gave her too small and size 14 sent to replace size 12). Then they drove to Virden. Linda had a date with Jerry.

Mother and Dad got groceries – she owes me $4.44. Ice melted from trees today. Birch and little Chinese elm in front are upright again. Worked on yellow dress. M.E. went to Marilyn McKee’s wedding at 11 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church, lunch at her home and reception 2-4 p.m. at Lincoln Park Pavilion. Linda had date with Jerry tonight.

Linda and Jerry went to church this a.m. Started Jane Olah’s green dress. Lorene came and brought Cousin Mary’s basket. Ruth got back about the same time and M.E. shortly after. She went to Bob’s on bus this a.m. Linda went out to Bartlett’s, and M.E. and Ruth went to church in eve.

Finished Jane’s dress. Mary Ellen made a quick recovery – had a date with Harold Tarr tonight. Ruth took Linda’s red coat to cleaners this a.m.

Fixed Linda’s zipper on black skirt. Ruth and M.E. went to hospital to see Mel’s mother. Linda and Jerry got groceries for me tonight. Income tax letter received re death notice and additional form to be filed; also claim from insurance company. Elmer and Judy signed the income tax form as witnesses.

Sent necessary papers to income tax office and insurance company. Wrote letters to Jane Dixon, Helen Leatham, and Carol Sutton. Worked on Linda’s black skirt. Bob [Cantrall] here in aft. Midge Oller picked up Jane Olah’s dress and paid $5.00. Ruth went to hospital to see Mrs. Hughes [Mel’s mother].

Wrote letters to Ruth Johnson and Warren. Mother D. got groceries for me today. She still owes me $1.75. Sent order for 14 mos. of “Look” magazine for $3.00. M.E. had a date with Dick Claypool, and Linda with Jerry. Ruth picked up Linda’s coat at the cleaners on way home – $1.75.

Ruth went home at 8 a.m. I made a new cover for invalid ring. Clem brought red jumper back for belt enlargement this a.m. I had it ready when she came back in p.m. Mr. Thomas brought papers for me to sign for registering to vote. Linda went to a show with Jerry tonight. M.E. had a date with a friend of Bob Shores. She broke her glasses today.

Mended 2 more of my dresses. Teaspoon caught in garbage disposal while doing dishes this a.m. Mr. Sammons came and took it out. I paid $3.50 for job. Linda received grades today: Swimming, A; Shorthand, A; Typing, A, also teacher wrote “Excellent”; English, B; History, C.

Shortened Linda’s grey skirt. Received Social Security checks - 7% increase from $81.40 ea. to $87.00 ea. M.E. received letter from Marian and Tom. She had a date with ___ Sharp and Ruth with Mel; Linda with Jerry. Wrote information for Lorene to send in letters to Congressman Peter Mack, Jr. and Senators Paul Douglas and Everett Dirksen re Social Security benefits for incapacitated widows younger than 62.

Baked a pineapple upside down cake. Cut out cobbler apron for Eileen Boyle who is my secret pal. Wrote letter to Marian Gilroy and sent birthday card to Gus. Bernard and Ruth Burnett have a 7 lb. boy, Craig Stewart, born yesterday morning. They live in Calif. Linda went to Rainbow Girls meeting with Turners and Jerry brought them home. M.E. had a date with Harry ?. Ruth is now considering moving into an apartment with a girl who also works at Franklin Life.

M.E. left this a.m. to pay bills and see the Waters’ (Ron’s parents). Linda left in aft. to help Peggy prepare dinner to celebrate Peggy & Bob’s anniversary – they started dating a year ago. Ruth moved into an apartment at 1004 N. 3rd – Hallie Fagan owns it. Pays $65.00 mo. Gladene McCarthy moved in with her. I finished apron.

Bob took my old wheel chair out to Bob Beam and his son, Tom, changed it so commode seat would fit – charged $8.00. Jerry and Linda took cobbler apron to Eileen Boyle who is my secret pal.

Jim here in aft. – gave him odds and ends of floor tile. Linda sent order to Florida Fashions for 2 skirts and a blouse. She helped cut out Connie Ahrens’ lilac and white stripe dress. Jerry and Linda went to Invitational Dance at Abraham Lincoln Hotel. Fred Peters and Dorothy Turner went with them.

Worked on Mrs. Jagow’s coat, Connie’s dress, and cut out jacket for Sally Hindman. Rita picked up coat after school so Judy can mark hem. Received carbon paper from Georgia Coulter from Singer Sewing Co. Linda received skirts from Florida Fashions but blouse was back-ordered. Linda went to Rainbow Girls meeting with Dorothy. Jerry brought them home.

Judy brought Mrs. Jagow’s coat this a.m. on which she had pinned hem line. June Hindman and Lorene came a little later to get dress and her son’s slacks. (Paid $6.00 for dress and $1.00 for slacks.) Finished Mrs. Jagow’s coat. M.E. picked up hi-fi at Spiegel’s. Uncle Rob got groceries. Linda had a date with Jerry. Bob and Mrs. McCoy went to Memorial Hospital yesterday. Uncle Rob made deposit on mower at Kroger’s today. Lorene left dress to be shortened.

Worked on Sally’s dress. Mr. Diller brought white shirts which need new collars and cuffs; also a dress of Aunt Helen’s which is torn. She was in the car but didn’t come in as we were eating supper. Ruth and Gladene here for a few minutes. M.E. didn’t work today on account of Washington’s Birthday. Called Dr. Ratliff who gave me an appointment for Friday. Phoned Jim and he will take me.

Jim was supposed to help me get to dentist office but didn’t show up. Elmer and Judy’s brother got me into Dad’s car. Man who parks cars in basement of Illinois Building got me out of car and into dentist’s chair, and 2 Bisch [Funeral Home] attendants brought me home. I paid Dr. Ratliff $12.00. June picked up Sally’s dresses and paid $8.00 in aft.

Jim, Caryl & children were here in aft. Linda had another driving lesson tonight. M.E. phoned Dr. Shriner re sprained arm from fall while skating this aft.

M.E. went to Marilyn McKee’s house and Linda went to store with Jerry. June Hindman phoned at 8 p.m. that she wasn’t coming on account of unexpected out-of-town guests.

Worked on Linda’s pink plaid. Cousin Willis and Dr. Romence came this afternoon. First time I’ve seen the latter since January 1956 when he came out to see Ray who was allergic to Equinel. Linda went to Rainbow Girls meeting. June brought material for coat, suit and blouse.

Worked on Linda’s pink dress. M.E. went to Dr. Shriner after work – her arm is okay. She had a date tonight. Linda and Jerry went to the store and came back – played canasta here with Peggy and Bob. Lorene came – brought check for $50 from Cousin Willis to pay on washer service; she also got her jackets and paid $6.00. Ross Sanders was married this eve.

Completed all machine stitching on Linda’s pink dress in a.m. and worked on June’s coat in aft. M.E. stayed downtown after work – went to business college. Linda cut out lining for June’s coat tonight. Ruth here for a few minutes. Judy said her brother would paint our house.

Worked on June’s coat. Painter came at 1 p.m. and quoted $185 for labor and materials for painting house. Judy’s brother wants $175 for labor only. Gus here for a few minutes, also Judy and Mark, Aunt Helen and Mr. Diller, and Mrs. Harris came later. Then Aunt Ethel and Uncle Rob. June came for a fitting after they left.

Worked on June’s coat. Hawaii taken in as 50th state today. M.E. went out to Jim’s after work to babysit. Jerry stopped in for a few minutes – he may go to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, for a couple weeks for company who took over Hayes Freight Lines.

Worked on June’s coat. Mother and Dad got groceries. Carol Sue came over in eve. to show Easter coat and dress. Jerry and Linda went to a show. M.E. went to Waters’ after work and got home about 10:30 p.m.

Steve Haroski and a helper came at 9:30 a.m. and topped tree in front yard and one in back by alley, treated ground around house for termites, replaced baseboard they damaged in living room, and hauled away cans and branches for $39. L.R. and Jerry got mower at Kroger’s and paid balance of $36.15 ($5.00 previously paid). June came for her coat – paid $12.00. L.R. and Jerry went to Invitational Dance at Leland Hotel this eve. M.E. went to the drive-in.

Strong winds last night blew several shingles off our roof. I called Mr. Leavy, the roofer, who came this aft. and quoted $20 for repairs. Linda and Jerry went to church in a.m. and went riding in aft. Lazars here in aft. – she brought dress material and a gallon of distilled water. I worked on June’s suit.

Worked on June’s suit. Mr. Leavy repaired roof after Mr. Kennedy, the insurance adjuster, came. Cost insurance company $20. Ann VonBehren and Timmy came after lunch – brought 2 pr. shoes which were her sister’s for Linda. M.E. quit business college. Received 2 cups and 1 saucer in mail to replace broken ones (melmac).

Worked on June’s suit and blouse. Bob and Robbie here in a.m. and Uncle Rob and Aunt Ethel in aft. June came for a fitting at 7 p.m. and Lorene came after she left. June brought dotted swiss material for Sally’s dress. Received check from Prudential for $65.13 covering M.E.’s cancelled policy. Linda took driving lesson tonight before driving test tomorrow.

Finished June’s jacket and worked on skirt. Bob here in a.m. Linda went to Rainbow Girls meeting. Turners took her and Jerry brought her home. June came out for jacket. M.E. went out with a boy.

Finished June’s skirt; worked on her blouse and Linda’s dress. M.E. went to Waters’ from work. Jerry came out and Linda dictated to him while he took notes on teletype [sic]. School dismissed at 10 a.m. Jerry picked Linda up and took her for driver’s test. She passed. Bob here in aft. Mother got groceries and owes me 41 cents. M.E. got her pictures – simply beautiful! SHS beat Peoria in basketball game in Champaign.

M.E. went to Waters’ at 4 p.m. I worked on June’s blouse and cut out Sally’s navy dotted swiss. SHS won semi-final basketball game in afternoon and won state tournament tonight. First time since 1934. Jerry and Linda stayed home to watch game on T-V. June picked up suit and paid $10. Received card from Charlotte Hennessey.

Linda went to church with Jerry. M.E. left at 9:30 to attend dinner at Waters’. Jerry took L.R. and Dorothy to Armory for homecoming celebration for basketball champions from SHS. Jerry & Linda went to New Salem in afternoon and played cards here in eve. with Bob and Peggy. I worked on Sally’s swiss dress after finishing June’s blouse. Gus brought pictures of Lynn [Sutton] on his 5th birthday.

M.E. didn’t come home for supper. Ruth here for a few minutes. Received announcement of Alan Sutton’s marriage April 5th; also a card from Elsie and a letter from Lorene from Florida.

Good Friday. Linda doesn’t have school. Dorothy came in aft. and colored Easter eggs with Linda and stayed for supper. They went to Jerome church at 8 p.m. as Dorothy had a part in the service. Bob, Peggy & Jerry came later and played cards. Jerry here in aft. while Dorothy and Linda colored eggs. Judy picked up Linda’s coat at cleaner’s – looks fine now. She and children went to Effingham with her brother for Easter.

Easter Sunday. M.E., Linda and Jerry went to church at West Side. I received a lovely lily from Jim and cards from Linda, Katherine Gathard, and Frank Nelson. Worked on Mr. Diller’s shirts. Linda went for a ride with Jerry in aft. Jim brought M.E. home as she brought dressmaker’s form Mrs. Waters gave me. Paid off bet [ a Dairy Queen] to Jerry re Elizabeth Taylor remarrying.

Jerry left early this morning for Winston-Salem, N.C. to work for 2 weeks. I finished the 5 shirts and 7 pr. socks for Mr. Diller. Bob here from 9:30 until noon. M.E. went out in eve. with friends. I helped Linda cut out Mrs. Warrington’s dress. Phoned Mr. Kennedy re hail damage to roof and to check for wind damage. Mr. Leavy phoned re latter. Linda home on account of Easter holiday [ last of 4 days].

Linda picked up yellow material at M-W but not satisfactory; blouse back-ordered. Persian lilacs and weigelia in bloom.

Linda and Jerry went to high school this a.m. to get her Capitoline [yearbook] but some mix-up occurred and she has lost her receipts, so teacher said to come back Monday. Mrs. Nafziger here for fitting in a.m. Jerry and Linda got croquet set at Sears, $10.83. She went to Rainbow Girls meeting with Turners and Jerry brought them home. M.E. went to Southernaire for dinner.

Linda and Jerry went to church. M.E. left at 11 a.m. with Sylvia Green to attend Ruth Clements’ and Mel Hughes’ wedding in Franklin at 2:30 p.m. Jerry and Linda left at 1:45 to attend same. Linda brought home 2 pieces of cake for me. She went to Society Horse Show tonight at Fairgrounds with Kay Ludwig, Dorothy Turner and Sandra Schroeder. I worked on Isabel’s black and white dress.

Worked on Isabel’s black print dress. Linda cut out her tan and white stripe skirt and I worked on it also. Bob here in a.m. Linda and Jerry went to SHS and got her Capitoline, finally. She didn’t have receipts but didn’t have to pay 2nd time. T-V on the blink tonight. Evie and Bill Wells here tonight. Jeanie has been at Lincoln State School since February. They asked if Dorothy [their other daughter] could stay here a week, but I declined.

Clifford Search came after and brought Linda and me home from S.S. class meeting tonight – “red” side treated the “blue” side to a delicious dinner. M.E. and girlfriend had a picnic supper. Our T-V won’t work. I asked Ann to see if Augie can fix it.

Aunt Ethel and Uncle Rob came out and brought groceries. Linda stretched hose out to birch and let water run for approximately 4 hours. Adermans came up today–Judy’s brother may buy house in Southlawn. Jerry came this eve. as he has to stay in bed next 3 days.

I worked on Isabel’s green jacket and helped Linda cut out her green dress. Linda and I sent Aunt Helen birthday cards.

Mother and Dad got groceries. I gave him a card and dollar for Father’s Day. Henninger’s auctioned all their furniture, etc. in yard this afternoon. M.E. gave me a “Toni” in a.m. I almost finished M. Mason’s dress. Linda and Jerry went to Springfield Drive-In. My new wheelchair fell apart but M.E. managed to get me on the bed with “lift” before I landed on the floor.

Finished hemming Mrs. Perz’ dresses. Phoned Mr. Canedy , insurance adjuster, and he advised insurance company would allow 70% roofing cost. Montgomery is low bidder so their man came out at 10 a.m. with samples. Linda and I selected pastel green. Frank Nelson took Linda to hospital to see Jerry in aft. Aunt Ethel and Uncle Rob here then and told me Mr. Diller in hospital in San Francisco – had surgery a week ago.

Vancil’s came for us at 9:30 a.m. and funeral was at 10 a.m. Wheelchair came apart so attendants carried me into the place in a metal chair. Russell fixed my chair this aft. I worked on Elsie’s wrap-around and Midge Oller’s duster. Linda and Jerry found a satisfactory car for her. Had Bob Beam look at it. Jerry came out again after night school.

They brought cake, hamburgers, and iced tea and I furnished baked beans, sliced tomatoes, olives and pickles. They left a little after 8 p.m.; then Elsie and Wilna came. Wilna took her dress – paid $2.50. Jerry went to Chicago and back today re Hayes’ [Freight Lines] lawsuit. He came here later in eve.

Finished Marian Sanders’ slacks. Linda went to school this a.m. to register – paid $10 for book rental. She went with Dorothy and got back at 2 p.m. She cut front lawn this eve. – bent mower part on stump – still runs but vibrates terribly. Jerry came out after night school. We went “Dutch” on hamburgers, french fries, and Cokes.

I made it smaller in waist this eve. Linda & Jerry went to drive-in.

Linda had an appointment with Dr. Andreasen [podiatrist] and later with Mr. Gwin at Springfield Marine Bank who gave her shorthand, typing and vocabulary tests. She passed all of them and is to work half-time starting Tuesday. Mother D. here for her birthday – gave her a box of candy from Bressmer’s. I served chop suey, chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream. Linda and Jerry had a date later. Dorothy picked up her dress. Natalie and Bob Beam brought Linda’s car back – charged $67 for repairs.

Linda and Dorothy went to St. Louis at noon on annual Rainbow Girls trip to operetta. Gus paid $4.00 for remodeling her dress. Ann VonBehren’s sister introduced Kathryn Yoakum who brought material and pattern for dress. M.E. stayed with me all night. Lorene came at 9 p.m. and stayed for an hour. Linda got home at 2:20 a.m. Jerry met the bus and took Dorothy home, too.

Linda and Jerry went for a ride.

Linda drove up to Grandma’s at 8:30 a.m. and brought M.E. and all her things back as she is going to be home now. Finished Mr. Anderson’s slacks and worked on Dorothy Smith’s white skirt. M.E. went to show in aft. with Irene. Doc came for their roaster this morning. I cut out Ann Nadasty’s tan plaid skirt tonight.

Worked on Mrs. Huston’s dress. Norine and Glenn came at 2:30 p.m. Bob, Marge, Minnie & Doc here tonight. Glenn showed European pictures while Norine explained what they were. He got ice cream for the crowd. Mr. Anderson got slacks and paid $2.65. Frances Jordan came, too, but didn’t stay long.

Norine gave me a permanent this a.m. Then she and Glenn went to see Aunt Ethel and Uncle Rob. They came back here for lunch and left for Barrington at 3 p.m. I finished Mrs. Huston’s dress; she and Dorothy came this eve. to get it, paid $3.00. Shirley Benner brought skirt back as too tight.

Altered Shirley Benner’s skirt again. Worked on Fran’s skirt until far enough along for fitting. Put zipper in Aunt Helen’s slip and faced opening on one of his shirts. Ruth and Bernard Burnett’s baby, Craig Stuart, was buried this morning. Mother D. here for a few minutes before going to Burnett’s to babysit for Ruth Burnett’s little brother.

Put zipper in one of Aunt Helen’s dresses and finished both shirts. Shirley Benner came for her skirt this aft. Cecil Yocom brought Berdine’s coat to be mended in a.m. Linda worked until 8 p.m. – late getting home as she stopped to have spare tire put on at filling station.

Sent letter to Capitol Record Co. re broken record received yesterday. Peg Wallace’s son, Mrs. Woods and her little daughter came in a.m. – brought basket of canned goods and $5.00 from West Side Church. Finished Fran’s skirt and started Midge Oller’s dress. M.E. went to show with Irene Owens.

Jerry graduated from Basic Training. He’s to stay 8 more weeks at Fort Leonard Wood to attend Clerk School. Gus and Russ went to Chicago yesterday.

Thanksgiving Day. Our stool ran over so I phoned Tom Duffy who unstopped line and fixed sink faucet – charged $3.50. Baked 2 pumpkin pies to take to Marge & Bob’s tonight. The girls and I had a nice time there. Robbie came back to help get me in the house.

Worked on Midge Oller’s dress in a.m. No school today so Linda worked at Springfield Marine Bank from 8:30 to 6:00 p.m. M.E. paid $20 board for past 2 weeks. Linda got skirt length at Welek’s for $2.00 plus 10 cents tax. Phoned Mr. Gwinn [Linda’s boss] as she was late and he said she certainly was a “dandy”, etc.

Mother D. here later then Lorene, Myra and Katherine Wilson came. Cousin Willis sent a Christmas card and $1,000 check. Jerry left at 4:15 p.m. M.E. went to church with same boy (Bill McCarty) tonight.

Alma Fletcher brought gray jacket to have sleeves shortened. Linda took 4 new shirts I found of Ray’s back to The Hub and got 3 shirts for Mike, Steve and Tom and 3 sox/tie sets and $2.59 due bill.

Marge & Bob here in eve. We made 5 batches of peanut brittle; she insisted I keep three. L.R. wrapped boxes for Elsie, Wes, and Marian. Marge will mail them tomorrow.

Finished Linda’s skirt [Xmas gift] and Karen’s dress. Emma Kreider got aprons and paid $6.00. Mr. Diller got his topcoat and jacket and paid $5.00. Mr. Thomae brought a dish of candy and Jagows brought plum pudding and cookies. Later, Gus brought their gifts and 2 loaves of fancy bread. Jerry here aft. & eve. M.E. went to a show with Irene. Linda baked cookies all day and wrapped more gifts tonight. They went to Jerry’s at 11 p.m. to put gifts under Bartlett’s tree.

Grandma came down at 8 a.m. after breakfast and we opened gifts. Jim, Caryl & children came at 2 p.m. Then we had dinner. They left at 6:30 p.m. Shortly after, Jerry arrived. M.E. went to a show late with Irene. Motor in furnace burned out. Mr. Sprague couldn’t fix it as no company handling motors will be open until Monday.

Jerry went to town with Linda to get $8.00 refund on sweater M.E. gave her. She and Jerry went to Shriner’s Dance at St. Nick Hotel tonight. Jerry had flat tire after dance.
