Friday, January 1, 1960
Bob and Robbie brought me home about 2 a.m. Had a wonderful time at their home. Mrs. McCoy, Milton, Amy, Marietta and her husband and 2 boys; Doc & Minnie were there, too. Jerry and Linda got home just before I did and M.E. came before I got in the house. I worked on Linda’s blue plaid wool weskit in a.m. Mother D. brought a sack of crackerjack this aft. Jerry and Linda went to a show tonight.

Finished Linda’s blue plaid weskit and skirt. Jerry went back to Fort Leonard Wood at 5 p.m. He and Linda drove out to Beam’s to leave his car for repair. Went back in Mr. Bartlett’s car. M.E. went to Waters’ for aft. and eve. I wrote “Thank-You” note to S.S. class for fruit.

Wrote “Thank-You” notes to Cousin Willis, Elsie, Marian, Georgia, Ken & Ann, and Carol this morning. M.E. went to Waters’ for aft. and eve. Cut out Midge Oller’s dress and worked on it. Jerry phoned long distance late aft.

Worked on Midge’s brown dress. She came in eve. for fitting. Mrs. Huston and Rosemarie came in eve.; brought material for 2 skirts and weskit and 2 new skirts to be shortened. M.E. worked until 6 p.m., then went to a show with Irene Owens.

Finished Midge’s brown dress. Uncle Rob and Aunt Ethel here in aft. He got Linda’s replacement weskit at Spiegel’s.

Wrote letter to Alice. Shortened skirts for Rosemarie Huston. Mrs. H. picked them up late aft. – paid $3.00. M.E. went to funeral home with Mrs. Waters to see a friend.

Worked on Rosemarie’s green plaid skirt. Linda got our weekly supply of groceries from Gundy’s after supper. Midge Oller picked up brown dress – paid $5.00.
Friday, January 8, 1960
Made Linda’s green and brown plaid skirt (she bought material at Welek’s). Bob here around noon. Lazars came a little later and brought 2 gals. distilled water and part of a loaf of fruitcake. M.E. stayed downtown for supper and went to Ashland with Irene. Received letter from Alice.

Linda, Bev Richards and her sister-in-law left at 6 a.m. for Fort Leonard Wood. M.E. works today until 4p.m. Mrs. Ackerman came in aft. – brought skirt to be shortened, one to be lined, dress for zipper replacement, and suit for alterations. Mrs. Huston and Rosemarie brought lining, zipper and thread at 6 p.m. Jerry and Linda arrived at 8:30; M.E. and Irene a few minutes later with hamburgers, french fries and chocolate shakes.

Linda and Jerry went to church and then dinner at Bartlett’s. He brought her back about 5 p.m., then went on to Fort Leonard Wood. I worked on Rosemarie’s pleated skirt.

Worked on Virginia Ackerman’s blue skirt. M. Graebel brought shorts and skirt for alterations at 5:45 p.m. and Imogene Helm brought material for a suit at 8 p.m. Mother D. brought garbage to go down our disposal and paid $1.00 for month’s use. I ordered Simmon’s box springs for my bed from G&E Furniture Co.

Altered Mary Graebel’s shorts and skirt which she picked up this eve. G&E delivered box springs this a.m. M.E. and Linda put it on this eve. – bed is certainly comfortable – quite a relief to not “jiggle” all night on old springs. Aunt Ethel and Uncle Rob here in p.m.

Worked on Virginia Ackerman’s blue skirt and grey dress. Phoned Salvation Army to pick up old springs. Ann and Timmy here this aft. M.E. went to a shower tonight.

Worked on Rosemarie’s suit and V. Ackerman’s grey dress and blue skirt. Uncle Rob got 8 sheets at Penney’s, paid $14.66, which I will reimburse him. Linda stopped at his home and picked them up. M.E. didn’t come home for supper – went out of town with some girls. Salvation Army picked up old springs, papers and rags.

Linda and Grandma went to town – latter changed 4 Nationwide sheets for “Penco” ones – cost 92 cents more. M.E. went to a wedding in a.m. and a show with Irene tonight. Jerry came home again tonight. V. Ackerman picked up her clothes. M. Oller brought brown dress back to be let out at waist and wants new zipper put in husband’s jacket. Lorene out tonight; brought apples, oranges, and material for her mother’s dress. L.R. picked up Sears general catalog today.

Linda and Jerry went to church this a.m. and he stayed here for dinner. Later they went to Bartlett’s and came back at 4:20 with 2 of his friends, then the 3 men went back to camp. Worked on Rosemarie’s suit.

Aunt Ethel and Uncle Rob here in aft. Bob here in a.m. He fixed electric plug in T-V. I finished Rosemarie’s skirts and almost through with jackets. Mrs. Huston, Rosemarie and a girlfriend here tonight for fitting. M.E. went to Doris’ to play bunco.

Finished Rosemarie’s 2 skirts and jacket and her mother came for them tonight and paid $10.00; will pay balance of $5.00 later. Mrs. Hayes phoned tonight – said doctors says Aunt Helen won’t live more than a day or two. Linda had picture taken at Burchett’s for Capitoline after work.

Cut out Imogene’s skirt. Aunt Helen passed away at 7 a.m. – Uncle Rob phoned. I called Wes in a.m. and again at 6:30 p.m. Phoned Ken & Anne – they will notify all the Suttons out there. Called Smith & Sons Funeral Directors – they will send a car for girls and me on Saturday aft.

Uncle Rob brought Olwen Leach out at 9:30 p.m. to stay about an hour. Mary Graebel brought slacks to be taken in at waist and let out in legs, which I did in eve. Jerry phoned Linda at 11:00 p.m. She and M.E. went 15 miles out on Route 66 to get him as his car broke down.

Two men from Smith’s Funeral Chapel came at 12:40 p.m. to take girls and me to Diller’s. Aunt Helen looked so natural. Marian Grothman, George & Ruth Johnson, Olwen and Fred Leach were among those attending funeral. Mary Graebel picked up slacks at 5 p.m., paid $1.50. Linda and Jerry went to a show in eve. M.E. went out with Richard Shores from 11:20-midnight for a Coke.

Linda and Jerry went to church, then to Bartlett’s at noon for lunch. Wes and Alice came at 9:45 a.m. and stayed for about an hour then left for Rock Island.

Cut out and marked Imogene’s jacket. Mrs. Taylor called re Aunt Helen’s things. Mr. Diller phoned tonight for addresses and mentioned sending some of her things out, too. Received cards from Cousin Willis and Warren. M.E. stayed downtown after work to help Irene find a coat.

Worked on Imogene’s jacket. She came for a fitting tonight. Linda took her proofs back to Burchett’s. M.E. went to Ashland with Irene and they stayed all night with friends near there.

Worked on Imogene’s skirt and jacket. M.E. got back in aft. L.R. went to Sears to have tires checked, etc., but they were too busy. Mother D. here when M.E. came. She brought some sugared popcorn. Jerry here for supper, then he and Linda went to a show.

Jerry and Linda went to church and then to his house for dinner. I cut out Midge’s orange print dress and put it together. Jerry and Linda came about 2:30 and then left at 4:30 and went back to his house and then came back here at 5:30 and then he went on to camp alone.

Worked on Mrs. Hanson’s dress. Brother Laughlin called on me this afternoon. Midge Oller picked up her orange print dress – paid $5.00. M.E., Linda and I each took a tin of candy tonight. Linda had windshield wipers fixed on car on way home from work. Linda’s semester grades: Office Occupations class, A; Office Occupations job, A; Bookkeeping, A; American Government, B; and Gym, C.

Bob phoned and asked if I’d seen this morning’s Journal – Aunt Helen’s will mentioned in it – Aunt Ethel, Aunt Georgia, and I to receive 1/3 each of her estate – bequests also to other nieces and nephews. Lorene here this aft. – paid $6.00 for her mother’s dress. Kathryn Yoakum brought 5 skirts to be altered. Jerry came tonight and he and Linda went to a show.

Dorothy and Fran Nadasdy and Kathy VonBehren here in aft.; brought Dorothy’s white jacket to be altered and material for 3 skirts for Fran. Lorene came later for dress. Jim, Caryl & children here, too. Jerry brought Linda back at 5:45 p.m. and he went on to camp.

Aunt Ethel and Uncle Rob didn’t come today on account of colds. I worked on Kathryn’s skirts. Bad storm tonight – wind, rain and hail. M.E. picked up valentine card for my secret pal (Augusta Tatum) and I wrapped gift (2 planters).

Mother D. here in aft.; brought sack of crackerjack. M.E. went out for dinner. K. Yoakum got her skirts and left another to be altered; she wants me to reserve time to make kitchen curtains.

Bob here in a.m. Russell fixed storm doorstop which Gus allowed wind to tear screws out Thursday. Worked on Mrs. Hanson’s dress. Jerry came and stayed for supper, then they went to a show. M.E. has the flu. Mr. Diller brought a list of legatees for addresses. Jerry found out he will stay at Fort Leonard Wood indefinitely. Sent cherry pudding to Ayers’.

Uncle Rob picked up scraps of material, some of Aunt Helen’s things, etc., to take to Aunt Georgia’s this aft. He brought Home Savings & Loan book and pen. Jerry left for camp at 7:30 p.m.

Received valentine from Stephenie Karnes. Mr. Wilton fixed washers in sink faucets and unstopped sink drain, charged $6.50.

Linda had Mr. Gillituk charge car battery - cost $2.00. She got groceries later in a.m. Mrs. H. came for fitting. Linda went to town to get hair shampooed and set. She got caramel-colored suit at Sears. Very nice. Mother D. here while she was gone. Jerry didn’t come home – phoned at 10 p.m.

Finished altering K. Yoakum’s skirts and green suit. Aunt Ethel, Uncle Rob and Bess Kenney here in aft. June Hindman came again to get help on dress. Mr. Diller brought 2 pr. socks and robe for mending; also tie to be copied. Kathryn and Mrs. Yoakum came in eve.; brought material for 2 silk suits and took the above skirts home.

She brought material for maternity outfit for Judy [her daughter]. Frank Nelson came soon after they arrived. No school today so Linda worked from 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m. Jerry came home at 11:15 p.m. but didn’t stop here.

Hemmed Dorothy Smith’s green skirt and darned Mr. Diller’s socks tonight. Bob here in aft. Linda picked up white jacket, skirt and blouse (coral) at Alden’s before going to show. She got heater at Spaulding’s on way home from work.

Cut out blouse to Judy Gurske Sears’ maternity outfit. M.E. had hair appointment at noon. Linda and Grandma got groceries at 10:30 a.m. Alma Fletcher and Mrs. Yoakum came at 1 p.m. for fitting of latter’s 2 suits. Alma got her jacket I altered. Jerry came at 5 p.m., stayed for supper, and then he and Linda went to a show.

Linda and Jerry went to church this a.m. Oliver Stewart and Mr. Montgomery brought communion. I worked on Mrs. Yoakum’s blue suit. Linda and Jerry were here for supper. He left around 8 p.m. for camp.

Worked on Mrs. Yoakum’s blue suit. Gus came at noon – brought a piece of coffee cake for me. Aunt Ethel and Uncle Rob here in aft. Doc phoned re my income tax returns. Friend of Mrs. Hindman’s called about my making a basic dress after Easter.

Doc came at noon to help with my income tax returns. Finished Mrs. Yoakum’s blue suit and started on Judy Sears’ maternity outfit. Phoned K. Yoakum – she wants me to save time to make her a dress and alterations.

Worked on Judy’s maternity top and cut out jacket. Alma Fletcher picked up her mother’s suit tonight. Lorene and Cousin Willis came out, too. A friend of Ann’s called about curtains tonight; she’s in no hurry.

Worked on Judy’s jacket today. Linda worked until 8 p.m. Jerry came about 9 p.m. Mrs. Smith phoned – wants grey skirt by Easter. Mrs. Victor called – wants a sport outfit by June 1st.

Elmer notarized absentee ballot for me and mailed it in a.m. Jerry came at 10 a.m. and took Linda and Grandma for groceries. M.E. had hair appointment at Roland’s at 10 a.m. Linda had one at 3 p.m. Jerry stayed for lunch and took her – here for supper, too. They went to see “The Glenn Miller Story” later. M.E. saw it also with Irene. I worked on Judy’s outfit. Doc brought income tax return which I signed and had children mail.

Finished Judy’s maternity outfit. Lorene came for it tonight. Cousin Willis came, too. She brought material for a jacket. Gus and Russ here later.

Rosemarie Huston and her mother came this eve.; brought skirt to be shortened and Mrs. H. a dress and shorty coat to be altered. Altered Dorothy Smith’s grey skirt and she got it this eve. Aunt Ethel and Uncle Rob here in aft. He brought Cousin Willis back with him. M.E. went out with Irene this eve. Primary election today.

Altered 2 of Mrs. Jameson’s skirts and got another ready for a fitting tonight. She came this eve. and took the above 2 and tried on the 3rd and brought another suit for alterations. Uncle Rob came in a.m. to get Aunt Ethel’s glasses which she forgot yesterday.

Mrs. Huston came for her dress and jacket in a.m. Linda and Grandma went for groceries before noon and Linda to Roland’s in aft. for hair apptmt. Mrs. Jameson got her suit in p.m.; paid 50 cents in advance for suit alterations next week. Jerry came at 5:30 p.m. He and Linda went to Orpheum with his 2 sisters and husbands and Bob and Peggy.

Easter Sunday. M.E. went to S.S. and church at Church of the Nazarene with Jim; Linda and Jerry went to West Side Church. Mr. Baugh and Mr. Grimmers brought communion. Jerry and Frank here in aft. Linda went out to Bartlett’s at 6 and Jerry left at 9 p.m. for camp. Merle Perkinton brought an Easter lily the Sunday School class bought in Ray’s memory for alter at church this a.m.

Just about finished Mrs. Yoakum’s gren suit. Mrs. Wacaser and Sally Mosteka came in aft. and the former left 1 skirt and the latter 4 to be altered. Stella Jones phoned Linda re business college scholarship. M.E. had a coke date with Walt Sharp. Mark Jagow has the mumps.

Finished altering Alma’s dresses and started Rosemarie’s white skirt hem. Linda received grades: Office Occupations Class, A; work at bank, A; Geography, A-; and Bookkeeping, B. Also received certificate from “Noma” for spelling 100 words correctly. Alma and Kathryn brought some things to be altered and took Alma’s dresses and Mrs. Y’s suit. M.E. went out to dinner. Insurance adjuster came to look at storm door.

Finished Rosemarie’s skirt hem, altering Mrs. Jameson’s suit, Sally Mosteka’s skirt, and basted Alma’s dress; also restitched one side of Dorothy Smith’s grey skirt which she picked up tonight. M.E. bought some Avon products from her. Stella Jones phoned Linda again tonight and made arrangements for an interview on Monday for scholarship.

Linda cleaned part of border in backyard. Mrs. Yoakum and Katy came for her plaid dress, checked suit and Alma’s black check dress which I altered. Mrs. Yoakum left both silk suits for me to take in and another one. Jerry, Linda and Grandma got groceries, then Linda went downtown for hair appointment. Fran Nadasdy brought material for 2 dresses. I put emblems on Frank Nelson’s jackets and remade Mrs. Yoakum’s green suit.

Linda and Jerry went to church and to his house for dinner. M.E. went to Waters’ for dinner then to Greenview with Irene for a wedding reception. Mr. Evans and Mr. Baldoni brought communion. Worked on Mrs. Yoakum’s blue and green suits. Linda and Jerry here for supper. He left a little after 9 p.m. for camp.

Linda was interviewed after work for scholarship; also found out today she was nominated for National Honor Society. Margaret Garfield brought things for altering tonight. Bob here, too. Linda’s graduation dress came from Paris Shops. M.E. is giving it to her. Ordered handbag from Westenberger’s for Augusta Tatum, my secret pal.

Finished 2 more of Sally Mosteka’s skirts and worked on K. Yoakum’s tan print dress. Aunt Ethel and Uncle Rob here in aft. Sally got her skirts tonight; Mrs. Wacaser tried hers on. Linda got her colored glasses from Bards tonight. I gave her $7.50 to apply on them. She went back to school (from work) at 3:15 re National Honor Society. Mr. Gwinn said bank would not “dock” her as she was an honor student.

Jim took M.E. to Capitol Airport and plane left about 11:30 a.m. She phoned from Los Angeles at 8:20 p.m. Got along fine. I finished Lorene’s jacket. Caryl and Karen came about 9:30 p.m. to stay all night with me. Jerry came a little later. Visited a little while then went on home. Two neighbor boys mowed our grass. I paid them $1.00 which they originally quoted but raised price to $2.00, so will pay additional $1.00 when I have change.

Mother’s Day. Caryl and Karen left after breakfast. No one brought communion as were advised I wouldn’t be home. Jim and Caryl came for me at 12:45 p.m., then picked up Mother D. They served a delicious dinner. Jim brought us home at 5:30 p.m. Linda got back from Chicago at 8:56 p.m. Mr. Turner brought her and Dorothy home. I gave Mother D. a box of candy and a card; Linda gave me a chain for eyeglasses and two figurines from Chicago.

Mary Kreider picked up dress for friend. Ross Sanders has a son born at 1 a.m., David Ross, and weighed almost 7 lbs.

Merle Perkinton paid for mine for Mother’s Day gift. I paid for Linda’s – she had steak. Judy helped me get in car and Russ and Gus to get into house.

Linda and Jerry went to church then back here for dinner. Mr. Wallace and Mr. LaRue brought communion. Neighbor boys cut grass in a.m. I finished Fran’s dress. Lorene came after Linda & Jerry came back from Bartlett’s late aft. – she gave Linda $5.00 and Cousin Willis gave her a check for $25. M.E. got home from Calif. at 6 p.m. – looks wonderful with suntan. She gave me a dress and Linda a playsuit. Bob and Peggy here for a little while, then left. Jerry left about 10:30 p.m. to go back to camp.

Linda told Mr. Gwinn and Mr. Patton [at the bank] that she’d accept position in Trust Dept. She washed her car this eve. and M.E. raked yard.

Memorial Day. Worked on E. Kreider’s dress. Linda went out to Bartlett’s to pick up Jerry at 11 a.m. Jim, Caryl, children and Mother D. came at 1:30 – we had a picnic in the backyard. Then we went to the cemeteries to decorate graves; stopped at Don’s Drive-In and Grandma treated. Jim & Caryl left about 6 p.m. Linda and Jerry met up with Pat and Lois. They gave Linda her graduation gifts. Jerry got a ride back to camp at 11 p.m.; Linda came home alone.

Gus got her dress and skirt I altered this aft. Man removed telephone pole and pipe with bird feeder for $6.00 (I only paid $5.50–he’ll get 50 cents later). Linda and Grandma got groceries this aft. M.E. gave Caryl a permanent this aft. Jerry arrived at his house at suppertime and Linda went out there about 7:30. Mrs. Jameson brought 2 dresses and a skirt to be altered.

Still working on Stella’s dress. Someone ran into Linda’s car on her way home from work. Jim came at 6 o’clock to help get me in Linda’s car. Caryl and children were in theirs. Linda and I arrived at airport restaurant at 6:45 p.m. for National Secretaries Assoc. dinner. Linda received scholarship. I was given a standing “ovation” for being her mother. Had a delicious dinner and a skit by Theater Guild. Got home at 9:30. Marian was here and visited with Mary Ellen.

They went to a show tonight. M.E. cut yard then went to Ashland with Irene tonight. Received anonymous phone call re Linda tonight.

Linda and Jerry went out to Carol Chilton’s to help get them reestablished in their home, then back here for supper. She took him to meet his ride back to camp at 11:15 at the Dairy Queen on South 6th.

Worked on Fran’s dress and cut out Mrs. Hinrick’s white linen skirt. June picked up skirt and husband’s slacks. Linda didn’t have to work so went shopping – bought a darling blue check dress and a pink broadcloth “Bobbie Brooks” dress. M.E. stayed all night with a girlfriend.

Linda signed accident claim in Reinert’s office this a.m. and paid 30-day charge at Sears – all hers except plastic bedpan, $5.25, for me. She and Grandma got groceries at 1 p.m. Mrs. Hinricks came for fitting. Jim came at 3 p.m. and took me to Dr. Fry’s; no cavities, just cleaned my teeth, $4.00. M.E. went to dentist with me. She cut grass in a.m. and stayed all night with friends. Linda ironed all aft. and eve.

Phoned Elsie. L.R. got “Capitoline” this aft.; she left bank long enough to go to school. I received check for $50 from Cousin Willis. Phoned and thanked him. Linda stayed downtown for supper, then went to night school. Put inside pocket in Mr. Diller’s coat in a.m. and worked on Mrs. H’s white skirt.

Severe windstorm struck Jerome about 3 a.m. No damage near us but trailer overturned on Wabash Ave. and roof blown off house on Reed Ave. Worked on Mrs. Mack’s dress. Linda home for supper, then to school. Elsie here in aft. – brought Linda a graduation gift – cologne and atomizer.

Finished Mrs. Mack’s dress alterations – she got it this aft. Also altered Betty VanLucken’s pink suit which she stopped for tonight. Linda worked at bank switchboard tonight. Jerry came at 9:30 p.m. and they went out for something to eat. Mary Graebel called re altering shorts. Worked on Katy’s blue dress. Jerry gave Linda engagement ring – beautiful!

Jerry took Linda’s car home last night as battery “went dead” in his. He came at 12:45 p.m. and Tom was with him. Linda left them here with Jerry’s car and she and Grandma got groceries in hers. M.E. and Linda had hair fixed this aft. Finished Katy’s dress and Mrs. Jameson’s dress hem. Mary Graebel brought 2 pr. bermuda shorts for altering. M.E. went to a show with Irene and Linda and Jerry happened to go to same one. Kay and Tom and Bob and Peggy went, too.

Worked on Marian Sanders’ dress. Wrote letter to Iva Lemmons and sent Linda’s picture. Had Bormida boys cut our grass. Pleasant Nursery sprayed trees and evergreens. Katy and Carole Fletcher brought dresses to be altered. Aunt Ethel, Uncle Rob, Curtis, Virginia, her sister, Bill, Chris and Jean here tonight. Sally Mosteka picked up skirt and left dress to be shortened.

M.E. left at 9 a.m. to go to Ashland – Betty Mahoney’s – for the weekend. Finished Carole Fletcher’s and Katy Yoakum’s dress alterations. Linda went to Gundy’s with Mother D. just after noon. Frank Nelson brought 2 shirts to have insignia sewn on. Jerry came later – he and Linda went to town – got 2 lawn chairs and table at G&E Furniture and winter catalog from Sears. He stayed for supper then they went to a show. Margaret Garfield phoned.

Sewed patches on Frank’s shirts and he got them at 5:30 p.m. Ann got Fran’s dress today. Aunt Ethel and Uncle Rob here in aft. Cousin Willis and Emma Kreider came later. She tried on navy dress I’m altering. Ordered dress from Spiegel’s and one from Alden’s for Linda.

Linda, M.E. and Dorothy Turner went to Reinert’s Insurance Co. re accident. Linda and Grandma went for groceries just before noon. Then M.E. and Linda went to town – Linda had haircut and perm at Roland’s at 1 p.m. Thomas Garage picked up mower for repair. Katy Y. picked up her dress and Carole Fletcher’s that I altered. Finished Marian Sanders’ dress which she paid for previously. M.E. went to 66 Drive-In with friends and Linda and Jerry went to a show downtown.

Linda and Jerry didn’t go to church. Announcement of their engagement in today’s Journal-Register. I phoned church yesterday to discontinue communion until further notice. M.E., Linda, Jerry, and I had dinner at Mother Durst’s to celebrate my upcoming birthday. She gave me a can of salted mixed nuts. Linda and Jerry left after bringing me home. He went back to camp at 9:15 p.m. M.E. had date tonight.

Received dress from M.E.; sleeve ironing board, mitt, and cutting board from Linda; necklace, earrings and towel set from Lorene; $5.00 from Cousin Willis; and shorty nightgown from Secret Pal. Cousin Willis and Lorene came and M. Garfield here for fitting. Thomas Garage delivered mower - cost $27.45, which included 30 cents for oil.

M.E. stayed downtown and went to a show with Irene. Mother D. and Carolyn Krueger came for money to pay my water bill. Received dress I ordered from M-W; beige & brown plaid – very pretty. Phoned Dr. Shriner – he wants me to come to office for basal metabolism test.

They came back here at 5:15 p.m., had supper, then went to town to mail order and check to Midwest Card Co., came back around 9 – Jerry left soon after for Fort Leonard Wood.

She had to work tonight. M.E. stayed all night at Irene’s. Jerry phoned L.R. from Dairy Queen at 11 p.m. where his buddy dropped him off. She picked him up and took him to his house.

Linda had hair appointment at 3 p.m. She and Jerry went to a show and M.E. went out again in car alone without license.

Jerry left Springfield at 8:30 p.m. Linda came home and did more cleaning in kitchen.

M.E. raked back yard, cleaned breezeway and shampooed and set my hair. Linda cleaned broom closet and more cabinets after she came home.

Kathy Yoakum came at 7:30 with 2 dresses to be altered. Harriet Jordan came for a cup she forgot last night and a little later Esther Search returned an electric cord taken by mistake last night.

She got her hair fixed at Roland’s after looking at dresses. Mother D. here in aft. Jerry came tonight and he and Linda went to drive-in. Mrs. Hinricks came for skirt.

No one brought communion today. Linda ate dinner at Bartlett’s and supper here. Frank Nelson came as we were finished and ate a piece of lemon pie. M.E. went to Ashland in aft. and to the [Illinois State] Fair with Joe Buckels tonight. Frank drove Jerry to junction on Route 66 – 34 miles south of here, and Linda went along. Jerry’s Army buddy from Decatur took him the rest of the way back to camp tonight.

Phoned Myrtle Yocom at South Side Church[re date for wedding] who advised that October 30th already taken by two couples, so I phoned South Side Church minister. He confirmed same and suggested October 23rd. I phoned Jane McCammack and Bro. Laughlin at West Side Church but they will have to check schedule and let me know tomorrow. Linda went to school tonight.

I ordered 4 cans (3-1/2 lb. ea.) of Metracal from Flynn & Hippard Drug Store - $30.00 – Mrs. Burnett told me she saw it on sale there.

M.E. passed driver’s test today and scratched her car again. Jerry phoned from St. Louis at 10 p.m. and arrived here at 12:20 a.m. M.E. and Joe went to pay his fine for speeding tonight.

Bob here in a.m. Mr. Diller brought 7 ½ lbs. meat. Mr. DeLong phoned – he’ll be here Wed. a.m. I finished Helen’s dress and altered Mrs. Lundgren’s last two dresses. Girl from FBI phoned – Linda is to come after 5 p.m. tomorrow for interview. M.E. went out for the evening. Hangslebens left for Florida today.

Hemmed Rosemarie’s coat and worked on Elsie’s dress and Mrs. Redieske’s skirts. Mr. DeLong worked about 4 hrs. He got new door for bedroom. Mrs. Huston and Rosemarie got her coat tonight. Linda went to Capital Clinical Lab at 3:10 p.m. and to Dr. Shriner later for physical for FBI.

Mr. DeLong here today. Mrs. Hinrick came for fitting and left coat and skirt to be shortened. Mr. Sodenberger brought wife’s green dress which I shortened tonight. Jerry arrived about 5 p.m. He and Linda went to a show. M.E. had a date with joe. Linda got report from Doctor and took it to FBI. M.E. took Elsie’s dress over to Gus who will mail it to Bradenton, Fla.

Mr. Brunner and Mr. McCann brought communion. M.E. went to Rock Creek for the day. Jerry washed his and Linda’s cars. Frank Nelson and Grandma here for little while in aft. I altered Katy’s black jersey and worked on tan tweed dress. Jerry left about 8:30 p.m.

Shortened A. Hinrick’s black velvet skirt and blue coat. Gave Judy half a pkg. of liver. Linda stopped at doctor’s on way home from work. He’s sending report on foot for insurance. Decemma Cryder, Virginia and Florence Fromm here tonight with material for bridesmaid’s dresses. Katy got her dresses in a.m.

Bob brought 1 ½ lb. country butter for 75 cents. Mrs. Lundgren and Janell brought 2 dresses for latter to be shortened. Ann and Timmy here, too. Mrs. Hinricks got her coat I shortened and skirt I made; also velvet skirt I shortened. Linda and I made a recipe of caramels. Mr. Diller here in a.m. – brought 3 lb. loin steak and 3 lb. T-Bones.

Mr. Diller left this a.m. for Nevada and California. Uncle Rob brought Fred and Cousin Willis in a.m. – latter left robe to be shortened. I worked on it and Mrs. Perz’ dress and altered skirts for Mrs. Redieski. Mr. Soderberger got his wife’s dress this eve. Jim, Caryl and children here this eve. I gave them 3 ½ lb. round steak. Linda got socks from “Neumode” for Jim and boys for Christmas, dresser sets for Gilroys and Secret Pal; also Lorene’s hose from Bressmer’s.

Linda had hair appointment at Myers Bros. Lois Boner brought lipstick I ordered from Avon in a.m. Mrs. Perz came for fitting late aft. Jerry came about 5 p.m. M.E. didn’t have a date tonight as Joe had to work. Linda and Jerry went out to Bartletts after supper. M.E. waxed all floors including new bedroom. I ordered utility table for Jim & Caryl, bra and sweater for Linda to give Dorothy, and dress for Karen from Sears.

Mr. Newell and Mr. Gates brought communion. Marge and Bob here for dinner and supper. We made 20 lbs. of peanut brittle. M.E. had date with Joe in aft. Jerry and Linda went to Lois’ to take Pat’s clothes. Jerry left for camp at 7:15 p.m.

Wrapped and addressed packages for Gilroys, Hangslebens and Wes Cantralls in a.m. Lawrence brought 13 lbs. meat. Worked on Mrs. Perz’s dress and Mrs. Redieski’s skirts; also Linda’s. Lorene brought Judy’s skirt tonight for me to make and gave me $100 from W.J.S. for Christmas.

Finished Mrs. Perz’s dress. Hemmed a dress for Linda tonight while she cut out Dorothy’s red skirt. I addressed all out-of-town cards, too. Ordered electric blanket from Sears to be paid with part of money from W.J.S. Aunt Ethel and Uncle Rob here in aft. He mailed package I got ready yesterday.

Bob brought [Christmas] tree he’d grown . M.E. had date tonight. Linda got hair fixed, then went shopping with Jerry. They went to a show tonight. Their furniture was delivered today.

M.E. thought Joe would be here for supper but he phoned he was going to St. Louis with a friend taking hogs there. Jerry left about 8 p.m. for camp. Worked on Dorothy’s skirt.

Shortened 2 dresses for J. Lundgren and Mrs. Lundgren picked them up this eve. Shortened a skirt for Linda this eve. Bob here around noon – fixed door into garage.

Flynn-Hibbard delivered 4-3 ½ lb. cans Metracal - $27.72. I started Linda’s skirt. Lorene got Linda’s sweater at Bressmer’s for me. Uncle Rob brought groceries and took sweater to be returned to Myers Bros; also Central Ill. Light Co. bill to pay. Merle Perkinton and husband brought poinsettia and $5.00 from S.S. class. Rosemarie H. and father here in eve. – she brought formal to be shortened and her mother’s jacket to be altered. Linda late coming home from work as her car stalled.

High temp today - 5 degrees. M.E. and Linda took bus this a.m. as cars wouldn’t start. Came home on bus, too. Bob here in a.m. I worked on Rosemarie’s formal. Jim Carlisle got M.E.’s car started in eve. – battery needed charging.

Finished Rosemarie’s dress and Mrs. Huston’s jacket. Mr. Turner picked up the girls this morning and took them to work. Worked on Mrs. Redieski’s skirts. Bob brought M.E.’s outfit that Marge got for me from Robinson’s. Jerry came around 5:20 p.m. Pat came home on train at 4:30 this morning. Mrs. Boner phoned that he and Lois are to be married Saturday. Bob Beam got Linda’s car this aft.

Jerry took Linda to work. He got her car at Beam’s this aft. ($3.00) and took it to Gillituk’s for more repairs. Mrs. Huston got her jacket and Rosemarie’s dress this eve. Jerry went to rehearsal for Pat’s wedding, then he and Linda went to Peg & Bob’s for a little while.

Jerry took his car to Drone’s this a.m. Linda had hair appointment so Jerry used Mary Ellen’s car. Jim came in aft. to help me go to Pat’s wedding. Lois made a lovely bride. Linda didn’t have her house key so we went to Jim’s until Mr. Gillituk left it at Ayers’ then we came home. Jerry and Linda went out to Bartletts for a little while.

Jerry brought Mother D. down and then we opened our gifts. She had dinner at Jim’s and Jerry & Linda went to Bartletts. They came back at 3 p.m. and Bob came about 4. We got to his house at 4:30 and ate a little after 6:00. Doc & Minnie were there, too. Had a delicious turkey dinner. I received dresses from M.E. and Jim & Caryl; slip from M.E., too; bedspread from Linda and Jerry; pin cushion, Pat & Lois; $5.00, Gilroys; $5.00, S.S. class; $5.00, Georgia Coulter; billfold and album, Lorene; salted nuts, Mother D.

Pat and Lois here in a.m. when we exchanged gifts. M.E. went to hospital to see Alice’s baby. Linda and Jerry went to a show in eve. I made curtain for outside door in their bedroom. Frank Nelson here in aft.

Jerry’s mother, grandmother, Kenny, Diane, Pat & Lois here to see new bedroom – served candy, Pepsi and potato chips. M.E. took car to be washed. Alma Fletcher brought formal to be altered and her mother’s coat for shortening.

Phoned the Don Anderson’s – Mr. & Mrs. Redieski have gone to Florida for 3 weeks. Worked on Alma’s dress. Fran brought black velvet dress for alterations. Rosemarie brought 4 skirts to be shortened – her mother came, too. Peggy, Bob, Carol & Bob Chilton, Kay, Tom, Joyce & her husband here tonight. Gave Peggy my portable washing machine. Jerry picked up electric blanket at Sears – wonderful!! Caryl & Jim have a baby boy, 8 lbs. 2 oz., born 4 o’clock this aft. at Memorial.
