Shortened 2 skirts for Rosemarie. M.E. went to a show with Joe. Linda & Jerry went to a show, too. Bob and Peggy stopped in for a few minutes. Jim & Caryl named their baby Douglas Charles.
Monday, January 2, 1961
M.E. went out to Joe’s for the day. Bob Chilton came for Jerry, Linda and me at 10:10 a.m. and we went to his home to watch Tournament of Roses Parade on colored T-V and had lunch there. Mrs. Huston got 3 of Rosemarie’s skirts.

Altered Fran’s velveteen dress. Linda cut out Decemma’s dress this eve. I shortened last skirt of Rosemarie’s. Received Alden’s general catalog today.

Ann got Fran’s dress tonight. Linda cut out Virginia Cryder’s dress tonight. M.E. went out to Jim’s to see Douglas Charles. Aunt Ethel and Uncle Rob here in aft. I bought 2 doz. eggs from him @ 50 cents doz.

Finished Linda’s skirt and worked on Virginia’s dress. Jerry got here at 8:30 p.m. He and Linda went out for a pizza.

Worked on Virginia’s dress. Linda had hair appointment at noon. Jerry took her. Joe here for supper tonight. They all went to same show but not all together.

Mr. Lammert and Mr. Aten brought communion. Jerry and Linda went to his friend (court reporter) for paper for stenotype. Bob Chilton and Tom Nichols stopped by for catalog – they left before I found it and M.E. went out to Tom’s to deliver it. Jerry left for camp about 7:30 p.m.

M. Wacaser brought skirt at 9 a.m. – I put in zipper and she got it at 1 p.m. Gus here for a few min. at 11 a.m. Joe Miller looked at breezeway – said he couldn’t lower electric rate. Mr. Diller brought package of liver, rib roast, and round steak. Decemma and Virginia came in eve. to try on dresses.

Worked on Decemma’s and Virginia’s dresses. Aunt Ethel and Uncle Rob here in aft. – he mailed my gift (pink necklace, earrings and box of everyday cards) to my secret pal (Dorothy Davis). Mrs. Huston got Rosemarie’s skirt and Mrs. Turner left 2 skirts for alterations this eve. L.R. got Sears general catalog today.

Worked on Virginia’s dress. Sears repaired washer-dryer this aft. I signed contract for 1 year’s service, $40. Cemma brought brown taffeta for bows for hers and Virginia’s dresses. Carol Fletcher got her mother’s dress and grandmother’s coat. Gave sack of anklets to Mark Jagow. Frank Nelson here for a little while in eve. – said Sam [his brother] sold his monkey.

Worked on Virginia’s and Cemma’s dresses. Lorene came this aft. – brought pattern for hat and material; also duster that Kathleen Spaulding sent which I gave to M.E. I gave Judy some calves liver and she sent pudding in exchange. Linda baked two date cakes tonight (one for Mr. Diller and one for us).

Worked on Cemma’s dress. Mr. Diller brought 2 pkgs. ground beef this aft. and got date cake Linda made him. She didn’t get salary increase – probably because of her leaving in the near future.

Worked on Cemma’s and Virginia’s dresses – finished them this eve. Linda had hair appointment at 2:30. Jerry wrecked car on way home this aft. [He lost control while trying to close back window and hit the ditch – not injured]. They didn’t go anywhere – played cards and had cheesecake and coffee. M.E. and Joe went to a square dance. Wilna brought dress to be shortened – Marian Rose to be married in June. Lorene brought doz. temple oranges, $1.00.

Messrs. Barker and Jacobs brought communion. Aunt Ethel and Uncle Rob brought tape from Marshall which Jerry played on tape recorder. He recorded Uncle Rob’s, Aunt Ethel’s and my voices to send back. Jerry also showed film of wedding. Caryl, Jim & children were here, too. Baby is so sweet. I gave Douglas Charles two little suits. Linda took Jerry to Jacksonville to meet his ride back to camp. M.E. had date with Joe.

Worked on Mrs. Turner’s black skirt and finished altering her red one; also shortened Wilna’s dress.

Sally and Joe Mosteka came in aft. – brought 3 shirts and a skirt to be altered. Aunt Ethel and Uncle Rob here in aft. Cemma picked up 2 velveteen dresses late aft. Linda received FBI appointment after work. She and M.E. went to Lois Pearce’s [belated bridal] shower at her mother’s house in eve.

Worked on Sally’s skirt and Joe’s shirts. Velma Jordan sent stamps for S.S. birthday cards. I sent letters to W.J.S. and Elsie. Received note from Jane Dixon. Linda advised Mr. Gwinn re new job with FBI and he told her that January 27th would be her last day at the bank. She worked tonight until 9 p.m. M.E. went out to Joe’s in eve. Dorothy got her mother’s skirts tonight.

Worked on Mr. Mosteka’s shirts. Wrote note to Jane Dixon. Linda worked until 9 p.m. M.E. had dinner at “The Mill” for one of the Bell employees who is leaving. Mrs. Turner phoned to tell me how well she liked skirt alterations.
Friday, January 20, 1961
Finished Mosteka’s alterations. Watched the Inauguration and parade. M.E. had tooth removed after work. Linda worked until 8 p.m.

Started Judy’s hat. Linda had hair appointment – worked from 9-3 p.m. M.E. got four 3 1/2 lb. cans Metracal for me at Stinnett’s, $4.95 ea. She had date with Joe. Bob and Peggy went with Linda to get Jerry at 7:15.

Bob Haenig and Mr. Lewelling brought communion. Linda and Jerry went to Bartletts in afternoon. Frank Nelson ate a little with us then M.E. drove all of them to Jacksonville where Jerry got a ride back to camp.

Bob here today. Sally brought Joe’s jacket back as I forget to finish one cuff. Linda worked tonight. M.E. went out after Linda got home. Received letter from Elsie and 2 cards from Warren.

Finished Judy’s hat and Lorene picked it up on way home from work. Linda worked until 9 p.m. Mr. Gwinn was going out of town so Linda said “Farewell” and expressed her appreciation for his assistance and interest. Aunt Ethel and Uncle Rob here in aft. M.E. stayed home tonight.

Baked a cake and shortened Linda’s pink tweed dress and green tweed skirt. I ironed a dress, too. Linda worked until 6:30 p.m. Phoned Mrs. Redieski – they just got back from Florida and will pick up skirts in a day or two. Mary Graebel brought skirt to be taken in at waist. M.E. went out to Joe’s.

Made skirt for Linda with red wool plaid sent with Aunt Helen’s things; also shortened tan Pendleton plaid skirt I gave her for Christmas 1959. Phoned Dr. Shriner in aft. and he came after supper to look at my left foot – said gangrene had set in but not serious. I’m to soak it in hot water every night, then paint it with iodine, and call him next Friday. M.E. and Linda both drove to Jacksonville to leave Linda’s car for Jerry.

Jerry got home at 3 a.m. Linda had hair appointment at 11:30 a.m. M.E. had date with Joe tonight, and Linda & Jerry went to see “Can Can”.

Messrs. Charles Jones and Peters brought communion. Mother D. here in aft. Joe came for M.E. at 3 p.m. – she had supper at his house. Linda and Jerry went out to Bartletts in aft. Mr. and Mrs. Bartlett rode along with Jerry and Linda to Jacksonville this eve. so Linda would have company on way home. They left here at 7 and were back at 8:30 p.m.

Ironed 2 sheets, 1 pr. pillow slips for Linda and 2 dresses for self. Bob here in a.m. Wrote letters to Ruby Long and Marian Gilroy. Linda started working today for the FBI – had chest x-rayed and was sworn in. She really likes working there. M.E. went to see Alice Carlisle tonight. Mrs. Jameson brought skirt to be altered; also a jacket.

Wrote letters to Georgia Coulter and Alice today. Bob out again this aft. Mrs. Jameson brought pattern for blouse and picked up skirt and jacket. M.E. drove out to Joe’s this eve.

7" snow overnight. Worked on Mrs. Jameson’s blouse. Linda took girlfriend home from work and had a cup of cocoa there. She and M.E. were both late getting home on account of snow. M.E. went out in eve. Lois was coming tonight but backed out on account of weather. Esther Search brought lovely bouquet of red carnations and greenery from Augusta Tatum’s mother’s funeral. Sears service man fixed washer today.

Phoned Dr. Shriner today – he said to keep on soaking feet and paint place on left foot with iodine. Also said for Linda to see him tomorrow aft. on account of slight kidney trouble.

Linda had new coat cleaned; had hair appointment at 11:30 and 1:30 appointment with Dr. Shriner – just a little cold in kidneys. M.E. went to Alice’s in eve. with Joe where they had a late supper. She furnished Coca-Cola salad and baked beans. Linda and Jerry stayed home in eve. He didn’t get here until 2:30 this morning on bus. June Hindman brought suit to be altered in a.m.

Frank here for supper but just ate a piece of cheesecake and coffee. Linda took Jerry to bus station and he left at 10:45 p.m. M.E. shampooed and set my hair in aft.

Altered June’s jacket. She came this a.m. for fitting and took skirt. Mrs. Huston, Rosemarie and girlfriend came in eve. – left dress to be altered. Uncle Rob and Aunt Ethel didn’t come today as too hard for him to get out of garage (snow). M.E. went out in eve.

Enlarged coat pocket for Mr. Diller; also worked on Marian’s blouse. Mr. Diller got jacket this noon and left robe for buttonhole at neck and buttons. Frances Spaulding (Philip’s wife) died today – Lorene phoned to tell me and get date of Philip’s death –October 4, 1957. Mr. Jameson left buttons for wife’s blouse and skirt. Mrs. Huston picked up Rosemarie’s dress.

Sewed buttons on Mr. Diller’s coat. Cousin Willis sent check for $100. Linda had hair fixed at 9:30 a.m. M.E. went to town at same time to get a pair of slippers. June came for her jacket in a.m. Mr. Diller got his overcoat late afternoon. Linda and Dorothy went to a show this eve. Joe didn’t come by tonight. Sent Valentines to Stephie and Cousin Willis. Frances Spaulding buried today.

Lovely mild day – most of snow gone. Mr. Lammert and Don Nesbitt brought communion. M.E. had car washed at filling station and Linda did hers at home. Grandma D. here in aft. M.E. had date with Joe tonight. I widened pocket in Mr. Diller’s suit coat this aft. Linda baked brownies tonight for Jerry. Used ½ angel food cake for dinner and supper – served it with vanilla ice cream and frozen strawberries.

I mailed Valentines to M.E. and Linda today. Ironed two dresses and frosted ½ cake (angel food) left from one I baked Saturday. M.E. didn’t have to work today as it was Lincoln’s Birthday yesterday, but Linda did. Received lovely card from M.E. She babysat for Caryl & Jim tonight.

Valentine’s Day. Bob here in a.m. Received red heart planter with vines from secret pal. Aunt Ethel and Uncle Rob here in aft. M.E. went out to Joe’s. He gave her a box of candy. Lois came this eve. to show wedding pictures. Received several Valentines; also letter from Marian Gilroy with nine 4-cent stamps.

M.E. went back to work. I fixed pockets in Mr. Diller’s jacket and mended Linda’s green slacks. M.E. went with Irene for pizza. Her car stalled and the husband of one of her girlfriends repaired it.

Linda had appointment at Myers Bros. at 10:30 a.m. for permanent – looks darling. M.E. washed and waxed all floors except new bedroom. She had a date with Joe tonight. Jerry came at 5 p.m. and he and Linda went to a show; also his car is finished and he drove it home. He came to Springfield by bus. Uncle Rob paid Sears $1.19 for axle for my wheelchair.

Cut out Bee’s blouse. Aunt Ethel and Uncle Rob here. I paid him for axle. Jerry arrived at 10:15, just 20 minutes after Frank left. Received cards from Lorene and Cousin Willis from Miami.

Jerry phoned insurance man – they are cancelling previous health insurance and having full coverage at FBI. They went out to Bartletts for a few minutes before dinner. We had second hen that Chiltons had in freezer. Lazars here in eve. Jerry left around 7 p.m. M.E. went out to Joe’s in eve. Lazars brought 2 gal. distilled water.

Ordered Linda’s Easter outfit (coat, dress, hat, gloves and jewelry). M.E. went to work and back with Linda today – got her car tonight – cost $35.00 for repairs.

Linda cleaned house and had hair fixed at 1:30 p.m. I shortened M.E.’s pink print skirt and lengthened faille coat across back. Jerry didn’t come home this weekend and Joe phoned he wouldn’t come tonight as he didn’t feel well.

Finished Mrs. Pettibone’s coat and Madalene’s blue jacket and grey skirt. They came for coats and jackets. Mrs. P. paid for coats and Madalene is going to pay when everything is finished. Lois phoned she’s leaving tomorrow night for Kansas City to see Pat.

Worked on Bee’s dress. Jerry came at 4:45 p.m. He and Linda went out to his folks for a few minutes then came back here and she popped corn and we watched T-V. Lois left at 8 p.m. by train to meet Pat in Kansas City, MO.

Linda had hair appointment at noon and M.E. got perm at 1 p.m. Grandma, Lorene, Cousin Bess, Aunt Ethel and Uncle Rob here in aft. Lorene brought fruit holder, 3 temple oranges, and earrings from Florida. M.E. had date with Joe. L&J went to a show then to Kay and Tom’s. Jagows traded 1950 Buick on 1953 Dodge today.

Worked on Madalene’s grey jacket. Mr. Diller brought 2 pkgs. ground beef – I gave Judy one. M. Jameson brought black dress to be let out at waist and took Bee’s dress; also paid for it. Wrote letter to Marian Gilroy. Received card from Lois and Pat from KC.

Worked on Madalene’s clothes. Sent coupon to Gen. Mills for free 5 lb. flour. Aunt Ethel and Uncle Rob here in aft. Frank Nelson here tonight. Judy told me today that Pattons (west of us) have a new baby daughter. They have 2 boys.

Finished Madalene’s clothes almost. Marie Spaulding came just after Bob left to help me file 1958, 1959 and 1960 amended income tax returns so I will be eligible for social security benefits in my own right. Spilled kettle full of spaghetti water in my lap. Eva Snyder (Dr. Shriner’s nurse) came – called Staab Ambulance and entered Memorial Hospital at approx. 6 p.m. - Room 429. M.E., Linda and Lorene came down after supper. Mrs. Waterman is my roommate.

Dr. Shriner came this a.m. I am on a general diet. Helen VanMeter and Eleanor Jones called on me; also Nannie Jones, in aft. Cousin Willis, Lorene and Linda came in eve. Made electrocardiograph. Received bouquet of roses from S.S. class and pot of purple mums from M.E. and Linda.

Went down to first floor - Dr. Shriner gave me exam of female organs, then x-rays of side view and front of lungs. Natalie Beam came in aft. Linda and M.E. in eve. Pat and Lois sent a pot of yellow mums.

Dr. Shriner here in a.m. Lois, M.E., Grandma here in aft. Jerry, Linda, Mrs. Boner here in eve. Mrs. Waterman [roommate] left at 1 p.m. She had gall bladder removed and they discovered she had two! Bob and Marge came in eve., too – brought a beautiful plant.

Messrs. Baugh and Davidson brought communion. Mrs. Berg from Pleasant Plains is my new roommate – miscarriage. Dr. Shriner came at 11:15 and said I could go home in aft. Just as we were leaving, Merle Perkinton came with bouquet from Women’s Dept. at West Side. Frank Nelson here late aft. Jerry left for camp in early evening.

Dr. Shriner sent nerve medicine and Alaphon tablets from drugstore. Aunt Ethel and Uncle Rob here all day as I am still in bed. Miss Greb, visiting nurse, here in a.m. – very nice. Mrs. Burnett came on way home from school. Judy came in eve. – brought plate of fruit.

M.E. went out with Irene tonight and she got Mrs. Wacaser to stay with me. Linda and Jerry went to a show then to Carol Chilton’s. They got home at 12:45 a.m.

Miss Greb came this a.m. I worked on Rosemarie’s skirt and Mrs. Huston’s tan suit. Linda got some Easter candy at Osco’s and groceries at Gundy’s in eve. Cousin Willis and Emma Kreider here in aft. She brought cranberry-orange-raspberry jello salad. June Hindman brought coat to be shortened.

Mrs. Huston came today. I shortened June’s coat. Bob here around noon. Woman from Edinberg brought 6 doz. eggs @ 40 cents doz. (3 doz. for Bob and 3 for us.) He came later with 2 wooden lawn chairs @ $1.00 ea. and got the eggs.

Rosemarie and boyfriend got her clothes in aft. Linda had hair fixed at 9 a.m. Jerry came at 4:25 p.m. Miss Greb here in a.m. M.E. and Irene went out last night and got home at 2:50 a.m. – stayed here rest of a.m. Linda and Jerry went to a show – got home at 9:30 – had coffee and donuts!

Linda got dents taken out of car and horn fixed. Florence Fromm brought dress to be altered.

M.E. and Linda got me in bathtub in a.m. – doctor’s orders. M.E. phoned dr. in aft. I baked a cake tonight. Received a check from Cousin Willis.

He brought bed lamp that he repaired for me – no charge! Central Heating Co. got new furnace partially installed. Bob was here in aft.

Linda got her a yellow check dress from M-W and bought 1 pr. white and 1 pr. red flats in town. Don phoned 3 times but M.E. didn’t get home until 10 p.m. Made rhubarb sauce from rhubarb in our yard.

Jerry got home at 6:45 p.m. They went to a show. The Chiltons and the Nichols were here for a few minutes – wanted Jerry to ride in Renault Dauphine they had on approval. Linda took blouse & skirt back to Sears. Grandma gave us rhubarb from Mrs. Krueger.

Linda’s black & white dot dress came from Florida Fashions. M.E. shampooed and set my hair tonight. I started altering Mrs. Huston’s tan silk dress. Harry and Edith Willson called on me in a.m. Dr. Shriner’s nurse, Eva, phoned.

Mr. Diller came later with meat. Sent letter to General Mills for 25 cents for strawberries. Got new egg beater Uncle Rob got with 1 ½ books of green stamps. Linda took me out to Springfield Drive-In to see “Sunrise at Campobello” with Ralph Bellamy and Greer Garson – the story of Franklin D. Roosevelt – I might have appreciated it more if I’d been an admirer of his. Ill. Bell Telephone Co. installed extension in Linda & Jerry’s room.

Linda and Jerry went to church in a.m. – stopped at Bartletts to deliver Father’s Day gift (shirt) to Mr. B. and birthday gifts to Mrs. B. (dress) and Grandmother Dodds (nightgown). Frank came at noon and stayed for dinner then left. Jerry & Linda went to Chiltons to take baby gift (3 tops) for Bobbi Kay. M.E. went to drive-in with Frank tonight. Margie and Tom came at 9:40 and the men left for camp at 10 p.m.

Elsie in hospital for surgery. Midge Oller came for fitting in aft. and came later with belt set for that dress and material for another. Frances Bartlett, Carol, Bob and Bobbi Kay here this eve. Latter certainly is a darling. Carol brought several dresses and skirts for altering.

She paid for those but owes for one I altered tonight after I got back from Homewood Ave. block party. M.E. and Carlos went someplace to dance. He stayed all night at YMCA.

They had lunch together and then went on to Fort Leonard Wood. Marshall and Nellie Long called on me this eve. M.E. went to a show with Irene; Dorothy and Linda went to the same one. Margaret Baker phoned to thank me for gloves.

Linda and Jerry got groceries for family picnic and the weekend and she paid half of $16.50. He got winter catalog and my 2 dresses at Sears.

I worked some on Carol Chilton’s brown dress – she took the blue one.

Uncle Rob got 11 lb. turkey from Kroger’s for $3.14 (27 cents lb.). Girls got it on way home. Linda got ½ gal. ice cream, too, part of which we had on blackberry pie tonight. Jerry got into town as far as the Holiday Inn at 10 p.m. and Linda went to pick him up.

Bob here in a.m. – brought 3 lbs. Kentucky Wonder green beans. Worked on Betty Patton’s dress. M. Huston got R.M.’s blouse and skirt this aft. Linda got her hair fixed in a.m. Jerry came this aft. They played miniature golf with Bob & Peggy tonight.

Mr. Diller brought meat today. Shortened Peggy’s plum skirt. M.E. shampooed and set my hair. Gus wrote neighbors about new house they purchased and moved in Sept. 7th.

Altered Peggy’s blue dress. She and Bob came tonight for it and skirt; she left blue skirt to be shortened. I was going to Chatham for S.S. class wiener roast but it rained. Linda was taking me. Marian phoned from Elsie’s this aft. Received card from Warren; also letter re moving to Park Ridge on October 1st.

Mr. Diller brought meatloaf in a.m. after Katy left. She brought silk dress and coat and took 3 dresses I altered last week. I started on her outfit immediately. M.E. got her car door fixed today. She had supper at Irene’s, then they took in a show.

Finished shortening Katy’s dress and coat – she got them at 1 p.m. Linda and I went to Springfield Drive-In and saw Clark Gable in “It Started In Naples” and Grace Kelly and William Holden in “Bridges at Toko-Ri”.

Heat came on for first time this season. Shortened Linda’s navy sleeveless dress and started Peggy’s navy skirt. Katy brought 3 dresses to be altered. Mr. Diller here in a.m., too. Jerry came home late aft. – completed Army term. He gave Linda p.j.’s, panties and bra, and me a seam ripper, wrist pincushion, and Christmas list book. All very acceptable gifts – so very thoughtful!

Jerry took Linda for hair appointment at 10 a.m. I worked on Katy’s green brocade dress. Jerry got his car this aft. He and Linda went to show with Peggy and Bob. M.E. and Irene went to a movie marathon at Springfield Drive-In tonight. Mr. Pettibone brought a sweater and patches for sleeve elbows. I baked a cake and frosted it with mixes Jerry got at camp.

Worked on Katy’s blue dress today. Mr. Diller here in a.m. Jerry went to Marion, Ill., for hearings and got back at 5:45 p.m. He and Linda went out to Carol & Bob’s after supper. I started shortening Peggy Bastas’ skirt tonight. Linda got her car this eve. – has a new car heater, now.

Katy got her 3 dresses I altered this a.m. I baked a cake. Mr. Diller went to Chicago today. Jerry went to Champaign in Linda’s car so she rode with M.E. to work. Marian Jameson brought 2 jackets (remove shoulder pads) and skirt to be shortened. Received check from Aunt Helen’s estate which I deposited in American Savings & Loan; also returned acknowledgement form to Marine Bank – Marian J. mailed them for me.

Peg & Bob came for her skirt and left dress to be altered. Jerry went to Edwardsville today. Mr. Diller back from Chicago – phoned in eve. to find out what meat I wanted.

Frank Nelson here just as M.E. went out with Don. Aunt Ethel and Uncle Rob here for a few minutes in aft.

Altered Peggy Bastas’ brown dress. Linda had hair appointment at 10 a.m. Jim took me to Sangamon County Farm Bureau to get weighed. I’ve lost 48 lbs. since July 28th, 1960!!! Hurray! Jerry worked at office until 8 p.m. Margie Rabbitt’s sister Mary Jane and niece Jeanne came tonight with material for flower girl dress. First color T-V show on tonight.

Received card from Gus and Russ. Linda and Jerry went to shopping center then to a show. M.E. went out, also. Marian Jameson brought material for a skirt. Margie gave Linda red taffeta for cumberbund for flower girl dress.

Worked on Jeanne’s dress. Mr. Diller brought meat. Georgia Coulter brought hamburgers, potato salad and pineapple sherbet for hers and my lunch. Left dress to be altered. M.E. got package at Alden’s – everything okay including my plaid dress (size 16½!). Linda worked late so almost 7:00 when we ate. M.E. out for evening. Lorene and Cousin Willis here with 10 lbs. apples for $1.00 from Jeffries Orchard.

Worked on Jeanne’s dress. Uncle Rob got package for me at Sears -- everything okay but my dress is too large – 18 ½ – have to exchange it for 16 ½. M.E. was out this eve. but Jerry and Linda were home. “Sing Along With Mitch” on T-V in color for first time for an hour!! Wonderful program.

Mr. Diller here in a.m. Ann VonBehren and son, Augie, picked a bucket of golden delicious apples from tree on our east line for me in aft. and got another bucket this eve. for themselves. Midge Oller brought material for a dress. Bill Harrison came about 7 p.m. – very thrilling to see M.E. and him meeting for first time after corresponding for 20 months. They went to a show. Jerry got first paycheck from Walt Matthiesen since working full time.

They went to New Salem, had a picnic lunch, and then went bowling. They went with Jerry and Linda to see “Ada” tonight. “Wells Fargo” on for first time in color tonight!

Mr. Chestnut came to see doors to be lined with Masonite. Bob got ½ bushel red delicious apples from Spaulding’s, $1.80. Barbara [Howard] and Mrs. Hollis [her mother] brought clothes to be altered. Margie Rabbitt, Jeanne and Mary Jane Griffith came for Jeanne’s fitting of flower girl dress. Worked on Katy’s blue dress.

Finished shortening Katy’s blue dress. Mr. Diller brought meat in a.m. Mr. Chestnut fixed bedroom doors and living room window (west side of picture window). Worked on Katy’s tan dress and blue skirt. Sears phoned that my dress arrived. Jerry paid 2 weeks board; also payment on furnace and telephone charges. Linda played bunco tonight. Mary Jane came for flower girl dress. Ann and Augie picked another ½ bushel of apples for me and ½ bushel for themselves.

Linda’s birthday. Jerry took girls to work today. Linda’s knitted suit from Alden’s came and Jerry got it – his gift to her. I had a cake ordered from “B&Z Bakery” which they got this eve. Uncle Rob picked up my dress at Sears. I gave Linda a duster, houseslippers, slacks and blouse. M.E. gave her a blouse. All T-V programs, 6:30 to midnight, in color tonight.

Bob came out this a.m. Warren Sutton came shortly after and left about 12:45 p.m. Bob stayed to watch World Series. He bet me 25 cents the Reds would win – I won, as Yankees won 3-2. I worked on Peggy’s skirts. Linda got hair fixed in a.m. They went to Orpheum in eve.

Mrs. Morrison came this eve. and brought a dress jacket, skirt and 2 slips to be altered. M.E. had date tonight. Linda and Jerry went out to Chiltons’.

Jerry painted bathroom ceiling. They went to Stevie’s Latin Village with Bob and Peggy for dinner. M.E. went to show with Irene.

Betty Figuera got her dress this eve. Bob brought roll of wall paper for kitchen and I gave him a check for all. Linda and Jerry had dinner at Chiltons’ this eve. M.E. went out with Irene.

Altered 2 skirts for Kay S. and reinforced underarm seams in dress for Sally Mosteka – she came back at noon but I still have a black dress of hers to shorten – she brought both this a.m. Sent check to Black for repairing gate. Linda and Jerry went to town in eve. – got outfits for Danny, Tommy and Steve and a sweater for Karen for me to give for Christmas. Kay Sutphin got 3 skirts tonight and left 2 dresses and 2 skirts for altering.

Mr. Diller brought 8 ½ lb. shoulder roast and 2 ½ lbs. beef patties this a.m. Mrs. Crook and Valerie here this eve. with material for dress for latter. Jerry worked tonight. M.E. had hair fixed this eve. then went to a show with Irene. I sent “Thank-You” notes to I.H.N. and Booster classes today. Linda received notice that she is a Steno as of 11/26 @ $4,040 per year.

Linda had hair appointment at 10 a.m. Jerry worked all day. Bob brought a pound of country butter, 50 cents, in aft. I gave him gift of towels to take to Marge for her birthday. I worked on Kay Sutphin’s black dress. Linda and Jerry went to a show in eve.

Kay Sutphin came for her coat and 2 dresses I altered. Mrs. Crook and Valerie here, too, to try on Valerie’s dress. I cut it out in a.m. and got it ready for fitting.

Worked on Valerie Crook’s dress. Lorene and Cousin Willis here in aft. – gave me a silver chain and pendant (cultured pearl) from Oklahoma City.

Judy made skirt for Valerie Crook and I finished her dress. Mr. Diller brought package of ground beef, one of liver and one of round steak. Mrs. Crook and Valerie got latter’s dress and slip this eve. Jennie (Kay’s sister) and girlfriend here this eve. – left 2 pr. slacks to be made smaller. Linda and Jerry went out to his folks. M.E. had a date.

Altered Betty Figuera’s tan dress and started altering M. Huston’s blue dress. Baked a cake and made a quart of cranberry sauce for tomorrow’s dinner. Linda had hair appointment at 10 a.m. Jerry worked all day. M.E. had a date tonight. L&J had dinner at The Georgian with Carol and Bob then went to a show.

Finished altering M. Huston’s dress and started altering Mrs. Lundgren’s. M.E., Linda and I made 3 recipes of peanut brittle tonight. Jerry went to Rockford today.

Jerry went to Peoria today. M.E. gave my gift for secret pal to Frances Jordan at noon – lobby of Illinois Bldg. – as S.S. class Christmas Party tonight at church and I’m not going. Bob here in a.m. Mrs. Cooper brought dress and skirt to be altered and Mr. McAuley a coat to be altered. I finished Mrs. Lundgren’s dress alterations.

Jerry went to Ottawa today in M.E.’s car. Linda had generator installed in hers, so girls went to work in a taxi – Jerry brought them home. Sent get-well card to Gus and got Rock Island package ready to mail. Judy got Mr. McAuley’s coat, which she will alter. I worked on Linda’s black skirt. Received $50 check and card from Cousin Willis, and $5.00 and card from Marian and Tom who are in Santa Ana, Calif.

Jerry went to Vandalia and the girls went to work in M.E.’s car. Worked on Linda’s skirt and Mrs. Cooper’s red dress. Mrs. Lundgren got her formal in aft. Jerry mailed package to G.W. Cantralls for me. M.E. went to Ill. Bell Christmas party at Lake Club tonight.

Altered Mrs. Cooper’s suit skirt and she got it and dress this aft. Jerry mailed package to Elsie today. Mr. McAuley got his coat tonight that Judy altered.

Received $5.00 from Georgia Coulter today. Linda had hair appointment in a.m. Jerry worked today. They didn’t go out tonight as no good shows on and weather bad. M.E. went to a dance with Don. I addressed all Christmas cards today.

Linda trimmed Christmas tree today. Mary Ellen gave me a Toni perm this aft. M.E. had a date tonight with a boy from Kentucky. Jerry mailed my Christmas cards today.

Cut out and worked on Sally Hindman’s green taffeta dress. Jerry went to Bloomington today. I shortened Linda’s green velveteen skirt tonight. Mr. Diller brought 5 lbs. ground beef and 4 lbs. round steak.

3" snow last night and today. Finished Linda’s black skirt and started shortening her 2 pleated skirts. Mr. Diller here in a.m. and p.m. Received poinsettia from S.S. class and a box of cookies from M. Huston. Linda went to FBI potluck supper and Christmas party. Jerry worked at office today and tonight.

Jerry went to Quincy and got home at 5:30 p.m.; ate supper and left for Waukegan at 6:15 p.m. – will stay overnight en route. Finished Sally’s dress and shortened Linda’s blue reversible skirt. She worked until 6 p.m. M.E. went after her. M.E. went out with Irene tonight.

Linda had hair appointment this a.m. Mrs. Huston and Rosemarie here in aft. I gave them a box of candy; also one to Mr. Diller. Lorene came later with gift and cuticle scissors. Jerry and Linda went to a show tonight. M.E. and Don went to basketball game at Lanphier High School.

Linda and Jerry went to church this a.m. Jim, Caryl & children here in aft. – left our gifts from them and took theirs from us. Mr. Thomae and Carol Jagow brought Christmas remembrances. Jerry and Linda took gifts to Bartletts this eve.

Jerry, Linda and I went to Bartletts’ at 2 p.m. and had a lovely time – wonderful dinner, then drove around town to see Christmas displays. and got home at 9:30 p.m. M.E. stayed home all day, although she was included in invitation. I received blanket from M.E.; record and houseslippers from Jerry &Linda; casserole dish, Jim & family; slip, Lorene; duster, Peggy Wallace (secret pal); mitts and lotion, Mother D.; book, Wes & Alice.

Bob here middle of day. Helen McGrath brought 4 skirts to be altered tonight. Uncle Rob broke his finger Christmas Day. Bob, Jr. [Robbie Cantrall] to be married next month. Received box containing jelly and marmalade from Elsie.

Received box from Ken & Ann – chocolate-covered cookie sticks. M.E. had to get a new car battery -- Jerry almost froze his feet working on her car. She went to a shower later. Lorene brought ½ bushel of apples from Cousin Willis. She took duster I received from Peggy Wallace to exchange for a dress.

M.E. had to work until 4:30 p.m. Jerry took Linda to hair appointment. She paid Alden’s bill ($13.91) for me. M.E. had date with Don Halberg. Jerry and Linda stayed home tonight as they are going out tomorrow night. Elmer Yagow’s mother died today.

Baked a mince pie and one pie shell. Washed my 2 plaid dresses and fried package of beef liver that was left out of freezer by mistake. M.E. fried the chicken. Jerry and Linda went to a show and then to Babe & Jim’s for dinner. M.E. went to a club on Lake Springfield with Dan Halberg. Mr. Diller came and brought fruitcake and cheese for me to sample. Linda &Jerry got home at 1:40 a.m. and M.E. at 3:45 a.m.
