Tuesday, January 1, 1963

Mrs. Boner, Pat and Lois came at 10:30 a.m. to watch Tournament of Roses Parade and stayed for lunch. They left about 4 p.m. and Caryl, Jim and family came a little later and stayed until 6:30 p.m. Jerry and Linda took down Christmas tree in the evening.

Uncle Hughes brought a package of beef patties and round steak in a.m. Pat Grant got her skirts this aft. Received Alden’s catalog today.

Thursday, January 3, 1963

Jerry went to Belleville. I worked on Pat Grant’s coat alterations. Bob here in aft. Received catalogs from Spiegel’s and Montgomery Ward.

Friday, January 4, 1963

Worked on Pat Grant’s coat. Sears serviceman (Bennett) here in aft. Uncle Hughes here in aft. Jerry went to Joliet. Linda and Jerry went to Chiltons’ tonight.

Saturday, January 5, 1963

Worked on Pat Grant’s coat. Alice Gosses brought some things to be altered in aft. Jerry worked today. Linda took him and then got our groceries. Mother D. phoned before they left to let us know she’s going to hospital (Memorial) at 4 p.m. Caryl’s taking her. Linda and Jerry went to Esquire with Carol and Bob Chilton. M.E. went out with some girls. Mr. D. brought 2 roasts in a.m.

Hemmed skirts for Alice Gosses and Mary Ellen and finished altering Pat Grant’s coat. Monitored church program. J&L got some baby things at Goldblatt’s and went out to Bartletts after taking Chevy to Gillituk’s.

Monday, January 7, 1963

Hemmed 2 more skirts for Alice Gosses. She got 2 of them this aft. Started altering Pat Grant’s black slacks. Linda went to Dr. Bergmann this aft. and then to Memorial Hospital to see Mother Durst. M.E. went to see her during lunch hour. Jerry went to Ottawa and is staying overnight as he has to be in Waukegan tomorrow. Bob here in aft. M.E. and Linda went to Annette Hardin’s to Bunco Party tonight. Ola Spaulding (Fred’s wife) died yesterday. Funeral tomorrow.

Altered green dress for Alice Gosses. Uncle Hughes brought 2 T-bone steaks and a package of beef patties. Jerry got back from Waukegan around 8 p.m. M.E. went to hospital to see Mother D. Received 50 cent refund on Sara Lee cake and a card for Sears catalog.

Worked on some of Alice Gosses’ things and Pat Grant’s black slacks. She came this aft. with some more clothes to alter. Stone Tree Surgeons cut down elm tree in center of our yard near street. M.E. went to see Mother D. after work. She said she’s going home Friday. Bob here around noon.

Thursday, January 10, 1963

Worked on Pat’s black slacks. Bob here from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Pat phoned that instead of coming at 2 p.m. today she will come at 3 p.m. on Monday. M.E. went to see Mother D. - thinks she’ll come home Saturday. Jerry went to reserve meeting tonight. I ordered baby bathtub and diaper pail for Linda’s shower from Montgomery Ward. Linda got Sears Spring & Summer catalog on way home from work.

Jerry went to Bloomington. Finished Pat’s black slacks and Alice Gosses’ plaid skirt alterations; also altered Pat’s brown plaid skirt.

Saturday, January 12, 1963

Started altering Pat’s black silk shantung dress. Jerry worked today. M.E. had hair fixed in aft. Chiltons here for supper. M.E. got houseslippers at Sears that I ordered to replace ones I got her for Christmas which were too large.

Sunday, January 13, 1963

Monitored church program. Worked on Pat’s black silk dress and brown wool skirt. M.E. stayed home all day and eve. J&L went out to shop late aft.

Jerry went to Belleville. Linda took her car to work but it still refuses to start when engine is hot. Bob here a little while in aft. Pat Grant got black slacks, 2 brown skirts and black silk dress in aft. She tried on some more things to be altered. Frank Nelson here in eve. Man here to demonstrate china to M.E.

Tuesday, January 15, 1963

Jerry went to Ottawa. Uncle Hughes here in a.m. - he took electric bill to pay for me; of course, I gave him the money. I gave him some hard Christmas candy. Alice Gosses got her clothes in aft. Nancy Scaife and mother here later. Nancy left 2 pr. slacks and dress to be altered. V. Crook left 2 skirts to be shortened.

Jerry went to Decatur. Worked on Pat’s green skirt and finished V. Crook’s skirts. Rita Hinds here tonight to watch Bob Hope Christmas show in Japan, etc. Then she and M.E. left for rest of evening.

Thursday, January 17, 1963

Finished Pat’s skirt and started dress; also worked on M. Jameson’s dress. She came this eve. for fitting. Jerry went to reserve meeting and M.E. went to friend’s house to have hair fixed. Jerry got shower gifts for Linda from M.W. ($6.98 instead of $7.38 as listed in General catalog).

Worked on Pat’s suit and finished her dress. Bob here early aft. Mrs. Duncan brought dress to be shortened and Uncle Hughes came a little later. Lawrence brought 2 packages ground beef and one of round steak in a.m.

Worked on Pat’s tan suit. Jerry had cyst removed from right ear at St. John’s Hospital this a.m. by Dr. Kufdakis and then went to work. Linda had hair appointment at Ann Rutledge Beauty Shop in a.m. Everyone home tonight.

Monitored church program. Finished Pat’s tan suit. Linda baked a pineapple up-side down cake.

Monday, January 21, 1963

Worked on Alice Gosses’ clothes. Linda was promoted to Class 5 with salary of $4,665.00 per year. Mrs. Crook got her two skirts but I couldn’t change a $20 bill so will mail a check. Pat Grant got her things. M.E. entertained Bunco Club. Served angel food cake, ice cream, strawberries, coffee, iced tea and candy. Linda won door prize and I won Bunco prize (fancy apron).

Altered my blue dress. Mr. Bartlett cleaned driveway and walks because of my attending baby shower tonight. Received letter from Alice Cantrall. M.E. and L.R. got me in Olds, picked up Jerry at office, then went to Shelby Berta’s where baby shower was held. Jerry went back to office and then came for us later. Lovely party - 22 attended - beautiful gifts. I won door prize (cologne).

Finished Alice’s clothes. M.E. brought Rita home for supper and she stayed all night. Uncle Rob arrived from West Coast on 7:30 p.m. train.

Thursday, January 24, 1963

Jerry went to Geneva today. I put new zippers in Barb Howard’s slacks, mended Nancy Scaife’s slacks and started altering her black lace dress. M.E. brought Rita home again tonight. Bob, Carol and Bobbi Kay Chilton here tonight.

Friday, January 25, 1963

Finished Nancy Scaife’s dress and altered M. Jameson’s dress. Linda took Barb’s slacks to her. Bess Kenney called to tell me Ruth McKinnie in Memorial Hospital - had tumor removed. J&L went to shopping center tonight. Rita Hinds gave me $5.00 for staying here 4 days this week. She didn’t come back this eve. L&J went to Sears after going to shopping center and got new striped bedspread and floor mop. Linda got shelves for bathroom at noon.

Finished M. Jameson’s dress. Linda had hair appointment at 11 a.m. Jerry worked today. M.E. gone all day. Everyone home tonight as cold, snowy and very disagreeable.

Last Sunday concluded church broadcast so didn’t have to monitor it today. L&J went shopping at Gundy’s, National, and Steinberg Baum’s in aft. Minnie phoned early aft. to chat. I phoned M. Jameson that her dress is ready. Worked on Alice Gosses’ skirt.

Monday, January 28, 1963

Finished Alice Gosses’ skirt and dress. Started shortening Mrs. Duncan’s black dress. Phoned Kay Sutphin re Linda promoted to Class 5. Jerry in court today; not home for supper. Linda went for him around 8:30 p.m. M.E. went out - brought ½ doz. donuts home. Ordered 2 cotton dresses from Alden’s for Linda.

Finished shortening Mrs. Duncan’s black dress and altered Barb Howard’s cotton Bermuda shorts.

Wednesday, January 30, 1963

Put in zipper in Barb’s shorts which I forgot yesterday and altered Alice Gosses’ print skirt. L&J went out to Bartletts tonight.

Thursday, January 31, 1963

Baked a chocolate cake and made chocolate pudding. Pat Grant came at 3 p.m. to check alterations on 3 dresses and a jacket. I got sick, so she left before checking coat and slacks. Felt better after vomiting. L&J bought motion picture camera . They went out to Bartletts and got her car from Jefferson St. filling station - still won’t start when warmed up.

Today is Linda’s last day with FBI (maternity leave). Alice Gosses got her clothes today. Katy England brought 2 sweaters for buttonhole reinforcing and buttons to be sewn. Alice left sweater for same work. Minnie here for supper tonight. M.E. and 3 girlfriends went to Louisville, KY tonight. I started altering Pat’s lilac dress.

Wrote letters to Cousin Willis, Marian Gilroy, and Gus, and birthday card for latter. Finished Pat’s lilac dress.

Started altering Pat’s navy dress. Mother D. came down in aft. J&L went to Chiltons for supper. M.E. got home about 8:30 p.m. from Kentucky.

Monday, February 4, 1963

Jerry came home for lunch and took Linda to Dr. Bergmann’s office at 2 p.m. He didn’t come home for supper. Linda and M.E. went to Bartletts for Bunco party tonight. I finished Pat’s navy dress and started the tan knitted wool one. M. Jameson got her dress and jacket tonight.

Ordered a Baby Record Book from Bressmer’s for Linda’s shower next Tuesday night at Carol Chilton’s. Finished Pat’s tan dress. M.E. went over to Arta Pearson’s who gave her 2 shirts for me to fix cuffs. Uncle Hughes here in aft.

Jessie Maxwell Johnson [Aunt Minnie’s sister] in surgery this a.m. Altered Katy’s black jersey skirt. Jerry went to Joliet today. Ann VonBehren came in aft. - Linda gave her some baby doll p.j.’s. L&J went over to Goldblatt’s tonight and then took Chevy over to Gillituk’s for repairs. Bressmer’s sent baby book today. Uncle Rob at Memorial Hospital on account of face partially paralyzed. Ruth McKinnie is still there. Mrs. Nichols and Mrs. Crumley from West Side called on me.

Sent card to Pat for his birthday. Finished all of Katy’s things. Uncle Hughes brought pr. pants to be altered and pkg. of liver and one of round steak. Jerry went to Quincy.

Friday, February 8, 1963

Jerry went to Freeport. Mrs. Moates brought coat in a.m. to be shortened, including sleeves. I fixed cuffs on 4 shirts for Richard Pearson (Arta’s husband). Pat and Lois here in eve. I gave them my waffle iron, popcorn popper, and bed lamp Pat gave me a long time ago.

Jerry worked today. Linda had hair appointment at 11 a.m. so she kept Olds - got groceries after taking him to office. M.E. went to town in a.m. for license plates. Katy came in aft. for her things. Shortened Mrs. Moates’ coat. Linda purchased heart-shaped planter w/vine for Jessie Johnson from Buckley’s.

L&J had dinner at Bartletts and supper at Peggy & Bob’s this eve. M.E. took planter to Jessie Johnson at hospital this noon. I shortened coat sleeves for Mrs. Moates.

Monday, February 11, 1963

I altered Pat’s tan knit jacket. Jerry went to Joliet. He took Linda and me out to her baby shower at Carol Chilton’s this evening. It was a lovely party - she received many nice gifts - both of us won prizes.

Tuesday, February 12, 1963

Sent "get-well" cards to Jessie Johnson and Mrs. McCoy. Started putting grosgrain ribbon on Alice Gosses’ sweater. Jerry went to work at 1 p.m. Uncle Hughes brought pkg. ground beef and 2 pkgs. of soup bones around noon.

Jerry went to Waukegan. Arta and son came for her husband’s shirts and left 2 more in a.m. Pat Grant got her 3 dresses and jacket and I fitted coat and slacks on her this aft. Uncle Hughes brought tie a little later which I shortened and Mrs. Moates got her coat at 4 p.m. I finished Alice’s sweater.

Fixed cuffs in Arta’s husband’s 2 shirts. Linda took Jerry to work so she could have the car. She picked up Carol Chilton at 2 p.m. and they exchanged duplicates of baby things at Sears, Bressmer’s and Westenberger’s. Jerry got Linda a beautiful heart-shaped box of candy from Fannie May. She sent all of us beautiful cards. Mr. Garfield called in aft. re house insurance but I’ve already mailed check to Jones, McIntyre & Stuches.

Jerry went to Freeport this morning. I started altering Pat Grant’s coat. Lorene phoned that Dall Hubbel died yesterday. Linda went to town at 2 p.m. - had appointment with contact lens doctor at 2:30 - got back at 3:30. M.E. went out with Irene. L&J went to Steinberg-Baum in eve.

Worked on Pat Grant’s coat. Arta Pearson got her husband’s shirts this aft. Linda had hair appointment at 12:30. Jerry worked today. Linda took him to and from work. M.E. paid her auto insurance and came home and cleaned her bedroom and living room. Linda cleaned bathroom, my bedroom and their bedroom. They went to Old Luxumburg for dinner with 3 girls from FBI, their husbands, and Ginger and boyfriend, and then to Bureau party (dance) at Elks Club.

Worked a little on Pat’s coat. Went to Chiltons for dinner at 5 p.m. Frances Jordan came tonight while M.E. was home (she came back from Chiltons after we ate). Frances left ten 5-cent stamps to replace those I used and 25 one-cent stamps for class birthday cards, also year book. Kay Nichols had miscarriage last night and went to Memorial Hospital.

Worked on Pat’s coat. Linda baked "a cake and cheesecake" and it is delicious. She went to Dr. Bergmann at 2:30 p.m. - everything fine. Jerry took her. Uncle Hughes here for a few minutes. I went to Bunco party at Marilyn Nibbe’s - won door prize - 3 refrigerator dishes. Linda won 2nd (decanter) and Bunco prize (salt & pepper shakers). Mother D. here in late afternoon.

Worked on Pat’s coat and slacks. Carol Chilton picked up Linda and went to hospital to see Kay. Linda exchanged Bunco prizes for an oven timer and got 4 pair Carter’s panties in place of purse she won two weeks previously at Bartletts. Frank Nelson here tonight.

Jerry went to Edwardsville. I ordered mattress pads, receiving blankets and baby changer from Montgomery Ward for Linda. Finished Pat’s coat and slacks.

Jerry went to Belleville. Uncle Hughes brought 2 pkgs. ground beef. Worked on income tax returns. J&L went to Memorial Hospital to see Kay. Pat Grant got her coat and slacks in a.m.

Friday, February 22, 1963

M.E. home today but Jerry worked. She went to Jim’s at 10 a.m. and got home about 3 p.m. Helen McGrath brought 3 skirts to be altered at 1:15 p.m. Aletha Cooper brought material for several dresses at 5:20 p.m. M.E. went to Jim’s again this evening.

Finished altering Helen McGrath’s skirts and she got them this afternoon. Linda had hair fixed at 12:30. She took Jerry to work in a.m. but he came home on bus at 4:30. They went to Walt Matthiesen’s pre-lenten party tonight. M.E. stayed home. Roads are bad tonight (7 ½ inches of snow).

Made apple pie and baked a 9-lb. turkey for dinner. Snow over and sun shining brightly - snow is beautiful. Worked a little on Aletha’s blue jacket. L&J got a few groceries at Gundy’s in afternoon. 9.9 inches total snowfall during 48 hrs. ending at midnight tonight.

Finished income tax returns. Baked a chocolate pie. Linda has the flu - phoned Dr. Bergmann who sent medicine from Metzger’s. M.E. babysat for Caryl Pearce as she went to a shower. Uncle Hughes brought pkg. round steak and one of patties this aft.

Tuesday, February 26, 1963

(Temps. - high 12; low -22) Jerry took Linda to hospital at 2 a.m. then came back as he has the flu - went back at 8 a.m. Doctor saw her at 10 a.m. - broke her water and she gave birth (at 12:30 p.m.) to an 8 lb. 14 oz. baby boy named Mark Raymond. How marvelous! Jerry went back to hospital tonight. Evie Wells phoned re Mercer Spaulding committing suicide this afternoon with shotgun. Wilna phoned a few minutes later. Mailed income tax returns.

Wednesday, February 27, 1963

Jerry went to Belleville. Worked on Aletha’s blue jacket. Sent flower arrangement from Buckley’s to Linda (little shoe filled with sweetheart roses). Sent letter to Cousin Willis. Lorene and Lois phoned. I called Maymie Lazar. Jerry went to see Linda after he got back from Belleville and again tonight. M.E. talked to Larry in Japan for approx. 1 hr. ($200 plus 10%).

Thursday, February 28, 1963

Jerry had to be in court so Carol Chilton is going to see Linda in afternoon. Mother D. and Peggy Bastas phoned early morning. I baked a pecan pie and worked on Aletha’s jacket. Jerry went to see Linda this eve. He brought picture of Mark Raymond - he certainly is a darling. Received announcement of Alan and Eileen Sutton’s baby daughter, Jerri Allyn, born Feb. 15th. Uncle Hughes brought a roast late afternoon.

Beautiful day - not so cold. Worked on Aletha’s blue jacket. Mother D. brought white sweater set for Mark in a.m. Linda phoned after she left. Mercer Spaulding buried at 3 p.m.

Worked on Aletha’s jacket. Kiddy-Haven delivered crib today. M.E. had hair fixed around noon then went to see Linda and Mark at hospital at 3:15. Jerry worked today and went to hospital in eve. M.E. went to show with Irene tonight.

(Temps. - high 62; low 30) Baked a banana cream pie and arm roast. Jerry went for Linda and Mark at 12:45 p.m. and they arrived home at approx. 3 p.m. Baby is a darling.

Monday, March 4, 1963

Jerry went to Alton. Worked on Aletha’s jacket. M.E. went to Bunco party at Beverly Russell’s tonight. Linda sponge-bathed Mark first time today. They got along fine.

Jerry went to Joliet. Worked on Aletha’s jacket. Linda received a suit from Minnie and one from Jessie for Mark. Carol, Bob and Bobbi Kay here this eve. Mr. Diller came with pkg. of beef patties.

Wednesday, March 6, 1963

Jerry went to Alton. Worked on Mrs. Cooper’s jacket. Mr. and Mrs. Bartlett and Kay came to see Mark this morning after Grandma Durst left. I had Jerry get 1 lb. Fannie May candy to pay my bet that I lost (he bet that Mark would come before March 5th -her actual due date -- and I bet that he’d come after).

Worked a little on Aletha’s jacket and started altering Mrs. Rykken’s striped skirt. Ann VonBehren came to get money and water bill to pay with hers and saw Mark through window. June Hindman brought husband’s coat to have buttonholes reinforced. Pat and Lois here this eve. Jerry went to Quincy today.

Jerry went to Alton and got back early aft. then went to office; also went to Institute of Business Techniques - Misses Plain and Martin (teachers) gave a darling suit to Mark. Mrs. Dodds, Frances, Carol, Kay, Bobbi Kay, and Donna here a little later to see Mark. I worked on Mrs. Rykken’s white dress and skirt.

Jerry worked today. I worked on Mrs. Rykken’s dress. Joyce, Don and David Reynolds here in aft. Beth and Aletha Cooper came later with material for dresses and jackets. Mrs. Greening brought daughter’s slacks for zipper. Uncle Hughes brought round steak and patties. M.E. made marshmallow fudge in eve. and we watched movies on TV. Jerry picked up sweater set from Alden’s, $2.18, I got for Alan’s baby.

Worked on Charles Hindman’s coat and Greening girls’ slacks. Mother D. here in aft. and Mr. & Mrs. Bartlett, Kenny and Diane in eve. M.E. ironed Jerry’s shirts. Got package ready to send to Alan’s baby.

Finished Aletha’s jacket, started on her dress, replaced zipper in Greening slacks and finished buttonholes on Hindman topcoat. Lorene here in aft. and she took coat to Hindman’s. I paid her my part on Spaulding flowers. Ann VonBehren here in a.m. - gave Mark a darling suit. M.E. exchanged tan one that Plain & Martin gave for a red check. Tom, Kay and Donna here in eve.

Cut out Beth’s dress and worked on Aletha’s blue dress. Mrs. Willene Hughes (neighbor) came with Ann this morning to see Mark. Jerry went to Peoria. M.E. mailed package to Jerri Allyn Sutton today. Murray & Leora Johnson and grandson here in aft. Ordered bottle warmer, dress for Bobbi Kay, and girdle from Sears for Linda.

Worked on Aletha’s blue dress and shortened brown & green plaid dress I gave Linda (too small for me). Jerry at office today. M.E. ordered a coat from Sears this eve.

Thursday, March 14, 1963

Worked on Beth’s outfit. Willene stopped at window (bedroom) at noon. Jerry went to Fairfield. Sears phoned that Linda’s things are in. Jerry went to reserve meeting tonight. Mark’s navel entirely healed so he got first dip in tub today.

Linda went to store (Gundy’s) first time since home from hospital and I babysat for first time in a.m. and again in afternoon when Jerry took her to doctor re "contacts". Uncle Hughes came while they were gone and left after they came home. Bob & Peggy Bastas here in eve. She informed us she is expecting Oct. 30th.

June Hindman and Sally here in a.m. - brought Sally’s spring coat to be lengthened. Marian and Tom Gilroy, Elsie and Wilna here in aft. Mr. Diller came while they were here and brought 2 pkgs. beef patties, one of pork and one chuck steak. Frank Nelson came while Suttons were at Burnett’s. Jerry worked today.

Worked on Beth’s outfit. J&L went over to Baker’s Hardware Co. in aft. M.E. made fudge for Harold and took it to him in aft. and went out with Rita in eve. Mr. and Mrs. Bartlett, Kenny and Diane here in eve. Irene came to see M.E. and locked her keys in her car, so Jerry had to take her home to get her father’s keys. City Electric came in eve. to replace blown out fuse.

Worked on Beth’s outfit. Cut out Aletha’s turquoise plaid jacket and helped Linda cut out her dress and jacket (Easter outfit). Katy England brought 3 shirts for cuff repair and dress to be repaired. She gave Mark a beautiful white hand-knitted sweater this aft. M.E. received letter from Larry calling off their engagement. Joe Buckels (where Jerry works) gave him a comforter for Mark.

Tuesday, March 19, 1963

Rock Island is Jerry’s destination today. Worked on Beth’s and Aletha’s outfits. Mrs. Gosses got her sweater and left her son’s suit in a.m. Mrs. Rykken got her skirt and dress a little later. June Hindman came in aft. and tried on her spring coat but decided it was okay so took it home. Linda went to Castor’s for groceries in aft. and Bunco party tonight. Sandra Munez (Jerry’s co-worker) gave Mark a darling stuffed rabbit with music box inside.

Jerry went to Wheaton. I phoned M. Garfield and Bess Kenney phoned me. Mr. Diller here in aft. I worked on Aletha’s jacket and L.R.’s Easter outfit (plain blue skirt, floral bodice and jacket - petti-point cotton). Tech. to conduct class but came home early as class cancelled. M.E. rode around block with 3 men to try out car one just purchased.

Mr. Kren from Sears measured doorway for aluminum storm door - here in 2 weeks.

Mr. Diller left at 6:45 a.m. for West Coast. Linda got groceries at Gundy’s in a.m. and picked up Sears order, candy, then banana splits at Dairy Queen. Pleasant Nursery man planted hydrangea and wild crab in front yard and removed dirt left from driveway widening last fall. Mr. Huston came tonight to adjust TV. Barbara Howard and husband here a little while in eve. They came while L&J were at Steinberg-Baum but stayed until they got home.

She won door prize (bath powder and cologne) and Barb Mitchell gave Mark a hooded towel.

Caryl came in aft. and gave me 1 lb. Whitman’s Sampler chocolates and artificial corsage (daisies).

Jerry didn’t work today. He and Linda washed and waxed living room floor. Uncle Hughes came while they were doing it. He got back last Wednesday evening. I had to let out mint green dress to wear to Sunday School class meeting at Lamplighter Motel this evening. Had a lovely time and delicious fried chicken dinner. Frank Nelson was here when we got home at 9:30. My secret pal paid for my dinner and I paid for Linda’s.

Ordered pink linen tablecloth $3.10 from Bressmer’s to be mailed to Doris Willson in Peoria who is to be married June 8th. Linda took Mark to doctor for 3 mo. checkup. He’s fine and starts eating vegetables. M.E. said Mother D. thinks she should stay here nights. Linda went to Bunco party at Carol’s. Bert Clark came for fitting tonight.

J&L went to Jerome Methodist Church. Today they are having a farewell tea for Rev. Livengood. M.E. broke the news that she and Bill Dougherty are getting married in August. He was here with her for a little while in aft. J&L and Mark went to Steinberg-Baum’s late aft. I finished Peggy’s dot maternity top except buttons and buttonholes. L&J got back around 8 p.m.

Sally Mosteka brought dress to be altered. Linda met M.E. at 1 p.m. to look at dresses for her wedding. Cut out Peggy’s tan maternity top and brown skirt. Mother D. here in aft. Uncle Hughes brought scales but expanded wrong hook - took them back - came a little later in aft. with it fixed perfectly. M.E. got her engagement and wedding rings - they’re beautiful. M.E. babysat for Caryl Pearce as she went to hospital to see her mother. Lois’ sister phoned that Lois got along fine with operation (tumor, rupture, and had appendix removed).

Finished Peggy’s top except hem and started brown skirt. Linda got groceries at Gundy’s and National - met M.E. at 6 p.m. and chose Matron of Honor dress at Roland’s. She and Jerry went to see Lois in evening. Shortened Valerie Crook’s dress - her brother got it in aft. Phoned Stern’s re new bed. Pleasant Nursery trimmed 2 evergreens at front door and sprayed all shrubs and small trees, $9.50.

Finished Peggy’s dot maternity top and shantung maternity top. Mrs. Crook brought a dress to be mended and paid for shortening yellow dress. Linda had hair appointment in aft. Jerry went to Champaign. M.E. and Bill drove to Chicago and back to bring a couple home. They were here for a few minutes after they came back.

Father’s Day. Finished Peggy’s brown skirt. L&J and Mark went to Washington Park for picnic celebrating Father’s Day and Mrs. Dodds’ birthday. They got home about 4:30 p.m. - went to Bob Hope movie at Senate in eve. and I took care of Mark. They brought 2 pkgs. diatetic cookies to me which they purchased at Gundy’s on way home. Karen Pearce came down from Mother D’s to give me a note box Steve had made at Vacation Bible School.

Put the finishing touches on Peggy’s things which she got on way home from work. She gave us two small loaves of bread from Pillsbury’s and a can of Sego. Augie VonBehren cut front and back yards. His aunt came to look at my maple bed in view of possible purchase. Received letter and 3 pictures from Carol Karnes. Sears checked turbomatic [washer]$5.00, and installed mail slot in front door.

Bill and M.E. visited in backyard, then later in kitchen. Man here to get their order for wedding invitations.

M.E. and Bill went to St. Louis to ballgame. Jerry at reserve meeting until 4 p.m. Peggy, Susie and their aunt here in aft. to get Peggy’s dress and skirt. I worked on Bert’s pillows. L&J went to Orpheum to see Jerry Lewis in "The Nutty Professor" and I took care of Mark. Frank Nelson came for a little while before they went to the show.

Finished pillows for Bert Clark and made stole for Peggy. Linda took Mark to doctor for 4 month checkup. He weighs 14 lbs. 4 oz. and got 2nd shot for polio, etc. Linda went to Bunco party tonight at Bartletts.

Started altering Helen McGrath’s clothes. M.E. took birthday gift (nightgown) to Margaret Baker for me. She phoned in p.m. to thank me. Finished altering Helen’s things this eve. Bill here tonight - he helped Jerry change me from wheelchair to maple chair which they took outdoors. It was a lovely evening and I enjoyed sitting out there. M.E. made a big pitcher of orangeade.

Jerry went to Joliet. Linda went to National in a.m. and Steinberg-Baum in aft. to get Jerry’s birthday gifts, among other things. Carol and Bobbi Kay here just before she left with material for dress and another to be altered. Dick Frederick, electrician, put buzzer in new bedroom and button in M.E.’s bedroom in a.m. For Jerry’s 27th birthday, I gave him shorty p.j.’s and 2 pr. socks; Linda, a lawn reclining chair; Mr. & Mrs. B., slacks; and Grandma Dodds, a shirt.

Jerry went to reserve meeting in eve. Worked on M. Garfield’s things. Willene brought white summer coat to be shortened this aft. Bill here a little while, then went away with M.E. Ruth Clark and Gladys Denton from West Side came this evening.

Jerry went to Champaign. Worked on M. Garfield’s things. Electricity off a little while in a.m. -- white pigeon flew into transformer and it had to be repaired. J&L took Chevy in for repairs. M.E. went away with Bill. Mr. Varns fixed closet door in Mark’s room and started on east one in front bedroom, but couldn’t finish until he got a part repaired.

I cleaned out drawers in chest of drawers. Linda had hair appointment in aft. M.E. packed but apartment not available until Monday. Mr. VonBehren’s brother and brother-in-law got my bed, mattress and box springs this eve. - paid $10. J&L&Mark went to wedding reception for his cousin from 5-9 p.m. Mother D. here a little while - M.E. took her home as she left for evening. Linda got my white slippers at Penney’s $1.80.

Finished altering Carol Chilton’s sun dress. She, Bob and Bobbi Kay here this eve. to get it. Linda finished painting white window frames in Mark’s room and gave front bedroom first coat of violet mist paint. Moon about 3/4ths full - we sat outdoors until 10 p.m. Beautiful night! Cousin Willis and Emma Kreider came in p.m. - brought 10 lbs. of early transparent apples.

Worked a little on M. Garfield’s black dress and almost finished shortening Willene’s white wool coat. I ordered material for draperies in front bedroom. Stern’s delivered new bed. Ann VonBehren here in aft. Willene and Elizabeth here in p.m. I worked on Mark’s chest of drawers. Linda finished 2nd coat in front bedroom. They waxed floors in both east bedrooms - Jerry rented a floor waxer. M.E. and Bill got the rest of her things tonight.

Jerry rented a floor polisher and with Linda’s help scrubbed and polished all floors. They also moved the furniture and I spent my first night in new bedroom. I baked an apple pie.

Jerry took floor scrubber and polisher back before 9 a.m. He worked part of the day. I ordered 2 pr. hose from Bressmer’s for Lorene’s birthday tomorrow. M.E. paid $10 for week ending June 29th.

Three different termite control companies inspected house and gave estimates. Cousin Willis and Lorene and Fred here in aft. Linda had hair appointment at 11:45. M.E. had to work today so will fix my hair tomorrow. J&L home tonight. Received advanced birthday card from Frances Jordan as she’s going in for surgery for tumor in jaw on Monday.

Mother D. had Jerry, Linda, Mark and me for dinner. Bill and M.E. came later and she shampooed and set my hair. Peggy and Bob and his mother came late aft. but J&L&Mark had gone to Bartletts. They stopped at Bastas’ on way home. They went to new "Brazier Burger" for supper then to Roxy to see "Spencer’s Mountain" with Henry Fonda and Maureen O’Hara.

Mr. Smith (termite control) here at noon. Mother D. here in aft. Jerry painted window frames in front east bedroom. Mrs. Jagow brought badminton set back. She gave us cake from Rita’s birthday party. Jerry not working today.

He gave me a $50 check and she a laundry bag and hangers for my birthday. Linda made sandwiches with "Party Grill" tonight. Delicious. Received birthday card from Kathryn Gathard.

Linda had hair appointment at 2:30. She got rug at Spiegel’s for Mark’s room and draperies at Sears which I’m making for their room. Received birthday cards from Women’s Circle, Ruby Maddox and Peg Wallace. Uncle Hughes here in aft. and brought me a 7 lb. shoulder roast. L&J gave me 2 fancy pillows for my bed. Margaret Baker came in aft. and gave me a lovely nightgown. Mark gave me his picture taken at Montgomery Ward!!

Mrs. Crook brought dress to be altered. Worked on Bert’s knit dress and finished ripping Helen McGrath’s black dress for pattern. Mr. Davis started termite control treatment today. Jerry home. He painted screens in their rooms. Linda had shower for M.E. tonight - 15 came (including us). M.E. gave me a beautiful slip for my birthday. Willene and Elizabeth here a few minutes before time for shower. She took white coat but didn’t pay for it.

Ken Sutton phoned - they arrived in town at 3:30 p.m. and are staying at Howard Johnson’s Motel.

Repaired Marvin Garfield’s p.j.’s and worked on Helen’s dress. Jerry cut front yard and part of back in a.m. Linda took Mark for 5 month checkup and Jerry worked part of afternoon. Mark weighs 16 lbs. 10 oz. and is 25 1/4 inches long. M. Garfield got his jacket and p.j.’s this aft. Linda went to Bunco party at Beverly Russell’s. Jerry spent most of the evening at Gillituk’s getting Olds repaired.

L&J&Mark went to Bartletts tonight - got 2 doz. eggs @ 40 cents doz. Linda got car bed from Spiegel’s that I bought for Mark.

Mr. Varns replaced baseboard in my bedroom, fixed door into garage, hung my mirror, and covered crack in back of front door with narrow strip of wood. Charged $11.00 which included 2 closet doors he fixed sometime ago.

She received letter from Jerry. She washed kitchen curtains and I ironed them. Gus and Russ here in a.m. - they’re going home Monday. They left gift (sheets and pillow cases) for M.E. and Bill.

Gus, Charles and Alan came in a.m. - latter brought box of chocolates. M.E. and Bill stopped in for a few minutes to pick up 2 wedding gifts. Lorene here for a few minutes and brought wedding gift (blanket). Cousin Willis was with her and brought apples and corn. Sunday School class met here tonight - 18 attended. Started eating potluck supper outdoors but it started raining so we moved inside. Madeline Pettibone was co-hostess. I baked a meatloaf and we served frozen cream pies (chocolate, coconut, lemon, banana, and strawberry), iced tea and coffee.

M.E. shampooed and set my hair in a.m. She received card and $10 from Wes and Alice. Mark has a little fever and is not feeling very well.

Today is Linda’s last day with FBI. Mark is okay today. Worked on Herb’s shirts and got my clothes ready for wedding. Delores Kane came this aft. and left $50 check for M.E. and Bill. Margaret and John Troy sent them 2 comforters. We all went to wedding rehearsal tonight. Frank came to help me. They all came back here for donuts and coffee. Ernie can’t perform ceremony so Brother Lee will take over.

I ripped off top ruffle on "can-can" under Linda’s Matron of Honor dress. She had hair appointment at 9 a.m. Mrs. Burnett came later with gift of towels for M.E. and Bill. We all left at 1:20 for the church. M.E. beautiful in lovely gown. Linda and Joyce were, too. Reception at VFW a howling success. Willene took Mark home early. Pat & Lois here for evening. Chiltons came while they were here. Newlyweds went to St. Louis.

M.E. and Bill here for a few minutes - took my real estate bill and money down to Mr. Glaze but he wasn’t home so she left them there and Mr. Glaze will bring receipt back later. Almost finished Bert’s dress. Linda took Mark for 6-month checkup (weighs 19 lbs. and 26 1/4 inches long). Uncle Hughes brought 2 pkgs. cube steaks. M.E. and Bill here tonight. She tried on green dress but too long so I’m going to shorten it. Jerry cut grass early evening.

Jerry went to Rock Island. Wrote letter to Alice and Wes - enclosed M.E.’s bridal picture and description of wedding from newspaper and also a picture of Mark. Shortened M.E.’s green dress and worked on Aletha’s suit. Barb Howard, Allen and Jimmy here this eve. Jerry finished cutting grass. Charles Johnson, Realtor, left appraisal to be included with tax assessment complaint this eve.

Jerry went to Decatur. Mother D. here in a.m. Mrs. Duncan brought slacks to be altered and Mrs. Greening a skirt to be shortened and shorts for zipper replacement this morning. I turned collar on shirt for Herb England and started shortening Mrs. Greening’s skirt. M.E. and Bill came after work to get her green dress. Linda had appointment with Dr. Shriner re headaches.

Jerry went to East St. Louis. Mother D. here in a.m. Painter can’t start on her house on account of rain last night. She left navy blue dress to be taken in at shoulders and sides. Started altering Mrs. Mack’s dress. Linda and Mark called on Willene, Elizabeth, and Ann this aft. Cousin Willis brought sack of apples and Uncle Hughes brought a chuck steak. Jerry went to reserve meeting tonight. Bill and M.E. here after work. I gave them the "Portrait of Christ" book.

Jerry worked today. Finished Mrs. Mack’s dress. Linda had hair appointment in p.m. Mark not feeling well today - temp. over 102. Dr. sent prescription. Jerry went to Goldblatt’s and got film and candy tonight. We watched "Miss America" program - Miss Arkansas won.

Mark had rectal temp of 104. Jerry phoned doctor and he said to bring him to his office. He gave him penicillin. They got back at 12:30, we picked up Mother D. and went to M.E. and Bill’s for dinner; came home at 5 p.m. Willene, Elizabeth and a friend and her little boy (6 mos.) came shortly after we got home.

Mr. Bartlett worked 8:30-10:30 to finish trimming shrubs and tree - I paid him $22.50. Jerry went to Ottawa. Jess and Bunne Johnson came in aft. Pat & Lois here in eve. Also Lorene and Norma Gurske who tried on her jumper and took coat home I finished relining today. She left material for tan suit. Linda went over to Willene’s a little while in afternoon.

Linda took Jerry’s lunch to him while she was here. Margie Rabbitt’s sister came in aft. - wants me to make dresses for twin daughters and suit for her. Central Heating Co. fixed furnace, charged $4.00. Willene and Elizabeth here in afternoon.

Lorene and Norma came for jumper and to try on tan suit in a.m. Worked on it today. Jerry went to Peoria - got back mid-afternoon. Linda took Mark to FBI office and to beautician’s. Received $1.00 from Spiegel’s which I was "short changed" when Jerry got blouses Saturday.

Jerry, Linda, Mark and I went to Pat and Lois’ this evening for supper. They have a nice basement apartment. They gave us a decorated bowl (6") from Eisner’s - first of a set.

Jerry went to Indianapolis with Army troop. Pat and Lois came at 12:30 p.m. Linda and Lois took Mark in car to Grandma Durst’s and Pat wheeled me up there. We had a nice dinner and visit and came back at 3:30 as Kay was having birthday party for Donna Kay (2 yrs. old). Linda went to party at 4:30 but left Mark at home as he had a fever.

Jerry went to Joliet. I finished Norma’s suit and started altering Mrs. Duncan’s slacks. Lorene, Helen Overaker and Norma here in aft. Norma got her suit and left skirt to be altered. Mrs. Hanson in car - Linda took Mark out so she could see him. She took him to doctor early afternoon for 7-month checkup - he weighs 21 lbs. and is 27 ½ inches long. Springfield TV Company picked up TV at 5 p.m.

Altered Mrs. Duncan’s slacks. Linda and Mark went for a walk with Willene and Elizabeth in aft. Betty Figuera and Marge Lookis brought dresses and skirt to be shortened after they came back. Willene didn’t stay long. She took pictures of Mark and Elizabeth. Springfield TV Co. brought TV late afternoon, but still not right. Linda went to Bunco party at Kay’s; won first prize - a duster, which I bought from her for M.E.’s birthday.

Linda’s 21st birthday. Springfield TV serviceman brought set back around 5 p.m. - antenna needs attention now. I had a surprise birthday party for Linda. Jerry sent her 21 red roses and gave her a green knit suit, carafe, and bottle of wine. I gave her slacks and 2 blouses. He got cake from B&Z earlier and took it out to his mother’s. She brought it tonight. (I paid for it.) I also invited Carol, Bob, Bobbi Kay, Mrs. Dodds, Kenny, Diane, Pat and Lois, Bill and M.E., Willene, Tom and Elizabeth. Kay and Tom didn’t come as Kay had a cold.

Evelyn and Bill Wells here in eve. - brought 2 quarts green beans, 1 qt. pickles, and one huge tomato. Jerry went to Galesburg and Greyhound Bus wrecked his car after he came back (around 2 p.m. at 9th & Capitol).

Received letter from Carol Sutton telling about getting married last April to Ron Pickering and is expecting a baby in February. Worked on Janis’ jacket. Cousin Willis, Charlie, Kathleen, and Lorene here in aft. - brought bushel of golden delicious apples. Jerry came home at 3 p.m. and he, Linda and Mark left just as they arrived - went to see their wrecked car. They went out to Bartletts - took the turnips that Wells’ gave us as we don’t like them. Brought movie projector home as they received a roll of film today. M.E. and Bill here for a few minutes after work.

Worked on Janis’ suit. Willene and Elizabeth here in p.m. - brought part of a white cake with lemon filling and icing with coconut sprinkled on top - very delicious. Linda took Jerry to work then got groceries at Eisner’s on way home. She went after him at 5 p.m.

Linda and Jerry went to town. Linda had 9 a.m. hair appointment and he worked until noon. Linda picked up purple slim-jims at Alden’s, red p.j.’s for Mark from Montgomery Ward, and little red suit from Spiegel’s which I got for him. They went to Bartletts for supper. Uncle Hughes came later. M.E. and Bill came as he was leaving. I had dentist appointment at 3 p.m. - charged $12.00 for 1 filling and cleaning.

I started altering Mrs. Getzendanner’s dress this eve. Linda and Mark went for a walk with Willene and Elizabeth this afternoon.

They went to Babe & Jim’s for dinner and then to Chilton’s to help Bob celebrate his birthday. M.E. and Bill here from 6:30-9 p.m. Carol sent a piece of birthday cake to me. Received letter from Alice.

M.E.’s birthday. I altered Mrs. Getzendanner’s skirt and Sally Hindman’s jumper. L&J&Mark went to Peoria. They ordered a blue 1964 F-85 Oldsmobile to be delivered in 3-6 weeks. We went to Hughes’ for a cookout. Jerry went to reserve meeting at 6:45 p.m. and Linda, Mark and I came home at 9. Tom pushed me and got me in house.

Finished altering Sally’s jumper and slacks and June’s slacks. Linda took Jerry to work and got groceries on way home. She took Mark to doctor at 1:45 for 8 mo. checkup - weighs 22 lbs. 12 oz. Jerry came home with M.E., Bill, and Minnie who were here for wiener roast in backyard. Mrs. Gerster and daughter Barbara brought stuff to be altered at 8 p.m.

Bert Clark got things I altered and left coat and other clothes to be altered. Jim put Mother D. in Sunshine Guest House [nursing home] today. I ordered multi-colored shoes from Alden’s for Linda.

Shortened Bert’s dresses. Linda took Jerry to office and stopped for groceries at Eisner’s; also got mittens and socks for Mark. Katy got her clothes tonight. Willene, Elizabeth, Linda and Mark went to Gundy’s and then had Gillituk’s fix horn on Chevy. Jerry, Linda and Mark went to Bartletts tonight.

Cut out Aletha’s plaid skirt and put lining in coat. Mrs. Brummett brought 2 skirts to be shortened at 11 a.m. Bert came in aft. to get her dresses and coat. Linda had hair appointment in aft. - Jerry took her. Willene and Elizabeth here for a few minutes in aft. Joyce, Don, David and Brenda here tonight. M.E. and Bill here at 9 a.m. Linda got slacks at Montgomery Ward, $11.66.

Linda and Jerry went to Sunday School. I cut out lining for Aletha’s skirt and finished her coat. Linda, Jerry and Mark went to Steinberg-Baum in aft. Elsie Hangleben and Charles [Sutton] came while they were gone. L&J&Mark went to Bastas’ in evening.

Veterans Day. Worked on Aletha’s skirt and shortened Mrs. Brummett’s skirts. Jerry didn’t work today. He and Linda went to Steinberg-Baum again in aft. - got some toys for Mark. Uncle Hughes brought pkg. patties and one of round steak. Mark is waving "good-bye" today.

Shortened dresses for Bert and skirts for Annette Jenkins. They picked them up this eve. Willene and Elizabeth here from 11 a.m. until noon. Linda went to Bunco party at Carol’s tonight - brought wedding gift home for M.E. from Evelyn Jones.

Wednesday, November 13, 1963

Jerry went to Peoria. Shortened dresses for Bert. Mrs. Brummett got her skirts in aft. and left some other things to be altered. Linda and Mark went over to Hughes’ in aft. Barb, Allen and Jimmy Howard here tonight. She brought a coat to be shortened. Bert got her things tonight. I started altering her skirt and coat.

Worked on Bert’s coat and skirt. Linda took Jerry to work so she could get some groceries. Willene and Elizabeth here around noon. Jerry went to reserve meeting tonight.

Friday, November 15, 1963

Finished Bert’s coat and skirt. Jerry went to Galesburg. Linda prepared dinner for Barb and Allen Howard tonight. Of course, Jimmy came too. Started altering Mrs. Brummett’s coat and dress.

Saturday, November 16, 1963

Finished Mrs. Brummett’s things and started on the Gerster coat and skirt. Linda took Jerry to work. She had hair appointment in aft., got sport shoes at Alden’s, and brought Jerry home. Uncle Hughes got cans early aft. and later brought roast and beef patties. L&J went to "Butch’s" for steak dinner and to Roxy to see "Mary Mary" with Tom & Kay to celebrate their 5th wedding anniversary.

Worked on Mrs. Gerster’s coat. Mrs. Brummett came for her coat and 2 dresses and left her daughter’s coat and skirt to be altered. Helen McGrath came before she left with jumper and dress to be altered. L&J&M went to K-Mart later.

Monday, November 18, 1963

Almost finished the Gerster things except summer dress. Linda bought coupon from salesman for Mark’s photograph - to be taken Thursday. Jerry went to Alton. I ordered 2 shirts (Carter’s) from Bressmer’s for Mark.

Tuesday, November 19, 1963

Finished all Gerster clothes except summer dress. Linda took Jerry to work as she has appointment to have Mark’s picture taken at "Columbia" at 3:30 p.m. She came home about 4 p.m., then picked up Jerry at 5:15. Bressmer’s delivered shirts (for Mark) around noon.

Wednesday, November 20, 1963

Linda cut out Norma’s cranberry suit and blouse and I started putting it together. L&M went over to Hughes’ in aft. Jerry went to Edwardsville. I sent birthday card to Cousin Willis - he’ll be 93 tomorrow.

Thursday, November 21, 1963

Worked on Norma’s suit. She and Lorene here in aft. for fitting. Lorene left check for $150 for M.E.’s diamond ring. Altered Helen McGrath’s dress which she got this eve. Jerry went to Champaign in aft. and reserve meeting tonight. Photographer took Mark’s picture (in living color) at 3 p.m. Willene and Elizabeth here around noon.

Altered skirt and dress for Mrs. Brummett. President Kennedy assassinated in Dallas, Texas today. Linda had appointment with Dr. Bergmann this a.m. Aletha got her plaid coat late aft., tried on skirt, and left dress and skirt to be altered.

Saturday, November 23, 1963

M.E. and Bill came at 9 a.m. She shampooed and set my hair. Linda took Jerry to work as she has to have car for hair appointment this p.m. M.E. and Bill came back later with toy holster and guns for Mark. Mrs. Brummett came for her things in p.m. L&J got home at 5:10 p.m. Joyce and Don Reynolds here for supper. I worked on Norma’s suit.

Worked on Norma’s suit. Oswald (assassinator of Pres.) was murdered in Dallas. at police station by Jack Rubenstein [sic] about 11 a.m. Bob, Carol and Bobbi Kay here in eve. in their new "Renault" car.

Monday, November 25, 1963

President Kennedy buried today. Banks and government offices, schools, etc. closed today. Some stores closed until noon. Jerry went to Gundy’s a little after noon and then worked in afternoon. I worked on Norma’s suit. Linda went to Carol Chilton’s in evening to a toy party. She purchased 2 toys. Merle Perkinton and grandson here around 1:30 - brought basket of fruit and a card from I.H.N. Class.

Almost finished Aletha’s skirt and worked on Norma’s suit. Jerry went to Galesburg. Linda raked half of front yard and burned the leaves. She is going to Bunco party at Bev Russell’s tonight. Girl from Booster Class at West Side brought plate of cookies this aft. Mark is 9 months old today.

Wednesday, November 27, 1963

Finished Aletha’s plaid skirt which she got this eve. Linda took Jerry to work then went back to town to get Mark’s proofs and some groceries. I worked on Norma’s suit. Aletha came at 5:30 for her clothes. Linda phoned Dr. about Mark’s cold and he sent out medicine. Linda went downtown to get Jerry at 10 p.m.

Thanksgiving Day. Worked on Norma’s suit. Mr. and Mrs. Bartlett, Mrs. Dodds, Kenny, Diane, Bob, Carol, Bobbi Kay, Kay, Tom, and Donna were here for 4:30 p.m. dinner. They brought some food - we furnished turkey, etc. Mother D. was to go to Jim’s for dinner but couldn’t on account of she had slight stroke this morning.

Worked on Norma’s suit. Linda took Jerry to work. Midge Oller here in p.m. - gave her patterns to her. Linda took Mark to doctor as cold still hanging on - he gave him a shot. Jerry worked late tonight.

Finished Norma’s suit. Jerry worked today. Linda took him as she had hair appointment in p.m. M.E. and Bill here about 5 p.m. Linda got order at Penney’s which included a bedspread for M.E. and Bill and a can (1 ½ lb.) of hard candy.

Sunday, December 1, 1963

L&J went to Sunday School. Bill, Evelyn, Dorothy, Delia, and Jeanie Wells came at 12:30 for dinner. The girls and Bill gone all afternoon to move Delia’s things into new apartment. They were late getting back so had supper here, too. Lorene and Norma got suit and blouse in p.m. The Chiltons were here for a little while late afternoon.

Linda and I cut out Mrs. Thomas’ coat. Linda took Jerry to work in a.m. so she could pick him up in aft. and go to see Mother D. Olds company in Peoria called tonight to tell Jerry he could get new car tomorrow afternoon. Christmas Parade tonight. Jerry took Chevy over to Gillituk’s to have winter thermostat put in.

Jerry went to work at 5:45 a.m. Bill drove him to Peoria to get new F-85 - got back at 4:30. Mrs. Thomas came for fitting. I worked on her coat during the day and Carole Butler’s skirt alterations tonight. Jerry took L&M for ride to Thayer where his old car is - he got some of his things out of it. Ordered towels for Mark and boots for Linda from Alden’s.

Altered Carole Butler’s skirts. Jim phoned that Mother D. passed away at 1:30 p.m. M.E. and Bill here for supper. Jerry didn’t come home for supper as in court. Carole Butler came for skirts at 8:15 p.m.

Thursday, December 5, 1963

Shortened Barb Howard’s coat. Cousin Willis and Lorene here in p.m. He gave me a check for $100 for Christmas and a snapshot of Fred and him. Uncle Hughes came a little later with chuck roast and pkg. patties. Jerry went to Edwardsville. Uncle Clyde phoned - he and Aunt Hazel will arrive late tomorrow afternoon.

Friday, December 6, 1963

M.E. and Bill here at 9 a.m. She shampooed and set my hair. Linda had hair appointment at 1:30 p.m. and was going to stop at funeral home later. Uncle Clyde and Aunt Hazel arrived at 4:30 p.m. Ann took care of Mark. We all left at 6:30 for funeral home -- two Bisch attendants came for me and the rest went in new F-85. We got back before 10 p.m. Linda slept with me - Jerry on davenport, and Hazel & Clyde in L&J’s bedroom. They brought a beautiful African violet plant.

Bisch attendants came for me at 2:30 p.m. Clyde, Hazel, Linda and Jerry left at same time in F-85. Ann took care of Mark. Funeral service at 3 p.m. Went to Jim’s after cemetery and got home a little after 10 p.m.

Sunday, December 8, 1963

Clyde and Hazel left about 9:30 a.m. Worked a little while on Mrs. Thomas’ coat. Carole Butler brought 3 skirts back for adjusting tonight. J&L went out to Bartletts in aft. - got 3 doz. eggs @ 40 cents doz. Melfrances Underwood came for a few minutes after church. I gave her gift for my secret pal (Eileen Boyle).

Worked on Mrs. Thomas’ coat. Jim and Bill here in a.m. L&J went over to Baker’s Hardware - got red wagon for me to give Mark for Christmas and other toys for them to give him. Mr. Jabusch came while they were gone. Received first Christmas card - from George Bonn.

Tuesday, December 10, 1963

Mr. Jabusch is charging $111.32 for 12 storm sashes. Worked on Mrs. Thomas’ coat. Jerry went to Decatur. Linda went to Bunco party at Clara’s. Phoned various glass companies about new picture window in bedroom. M.E. and Bill here a little while after work. I gave them a jar of turkey salad.

Jerry went to Edwardsville. Roads bad from snow last night. Finished Mrs. Thomas’ coat which she got this aft. She gave Mark a stuffed horse. Linda took him to doctor for belated 9 mo. checkup. He weighs 23 lb. 14 oz. and is 29 inches long. Doctor gave him another shot for cold. Mr. Gardiner came in aft. to measure bedroom picture window. Aletha came after work to try on dress I’m altering. Bert Clark brought findings for suit I’m to make.

Finished altering Aletha’s dress and Mrs. Schafner’s dress. Jerry went to reserve meeting tonight. M.E. and Bill received wedding gift from Ken & Anne and I received fruitcake from Alice and Wes.

Linda cut out Bert’s suit and I started putting it together. Uncle Hughes brought 2 pkgs. beef patties and one of loin steak this aft. He came back later with a purple plush poodle toy dog for Mark that he got at Sally Ward Laundry for giving them $5.00 cleaning order. Linda phoned Dr. Ehrhardt re Mark.

Jerry worked today. Linda had hair appointment at 2:30. Mark much better today. I worked on Bert’s suit and finished altering Carole Butler’s 3 skirts. Little red quilted suit I ordered for Mark came from Myers Bros. today.

Sunday, December 15, 1963

Linda, Jerry and I made 3 batches of peanut brittle. I addressed all out-of-town cards and most of the local ones (total 75). Worked on Bert’s suit. Jerry and Linda got Christmas tree at Kroger’s for $5.00. Melfrances brought beautiful floral arrangement from my secret pal who turned out to be Merle Perkinton. I got Wilma McDonald for 1964. J&L decorated tree tonight.

Worked on Bert’s suit. She came for fitting tonight. Defroster came from Myers Bros. that I ordered for Jerry’s Christmas gift. Finished addressing Christmas cards (25). Lorene took Cousin Willis to Chicago to get plane for Phoenix. Linda put lights on outside evergreens at doorway. Willene brought box of homemade cookies late aft.

Jerry went to Danville. Worked on Bert’s suit. Millie Crawley and Mabel Nichols called on me in p.m. - brought gift from Women’s Circle #9. Linda got groceries at Gundy’s. I ordered a hat for her from Sears. She went to "The Mill" for dinner tonight (the Bunco club). Carol Chilton came home with Linda and Bob & Bobbi Kay came for her. Terrible snowy night.

Jerry went to East St. Louis. Mary Taylor phoned. Linda took Mark to doctor in p.m. Mrs. Bartlett and Evelyn Jones came tonight to make toffee (used my marble slab) - Linda made a batch, too. M.E. and Bill stopped in on way home from work. Altered Helen McGrath’s jumper.

Jerry went to Marion. Finished Bert’s suit. Linda took Ann to shopping center around noon. Mary McGrath came this eve. for Helen’s jumper. Gundy’s Market burned down - total loss.

Friday, December 20, 1963

Linda cut out Norma’s dress and I started working on it; also started on Beth Cooper’s skirt. Mr. D. brought note he received from Olwen for me to read. Jerry went to Peoria to get seat belts installed in car and another radio to replace defective one. Bert got her suit tonight. Linda went to Steinberg-Baum’s around noon.

Worked on Beth’s skirt and Norma’s dress. Norma came in aft. with Lorene for fitting. Lorene brought a couple of Christmas gifts for me and I gave her mine. Linda had hair appointment in aft. Jerry worked. They went to Walt Matthiesen’s Christmas party in eve. Bill and Mary Ellen here until 10:30 p.m.

J&L went to 10:30 church. Laughlin preached. I worked on Beth’s skirt and wrapped caramels. L&J went out to Bartletts late aft. and eve. and saw Doug Chilton [2 mos. old] for first time. Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Turner got Mrs. Schaffner’s dress in eve. He came in to see Mark but not home - he lived on N. Osborn four years when a boy.

Finished wrapping caramels and Beth’s skirt. Linda went to shopping center in a.m. I made fudge and divinity tonight and Linda made mincemeat cookies. I wrapped gifts I had for her and she wrapped all the others.

Tuesday, December 24, 1963

Mr. MacDonald from Spaulding Farm delivered bushel of apples from Geraldine. Linda and I made date nut bread and cranberry bread.

Wednesday, December 25, 1963

Mild day for winter (42 degrees). Snow is melting but enough left for a white Christmas. M.E. & Bill came in time for gift exchange in a.m. Pat and Lois came in aft. We left at 3:45 to go to Bartletts for Christmas dinner and got home about 11 p.m. I received lamp shade and slip from J&L; clock and dress from M.E. and Bill; slip, Jim & Caryl; magnetic "picker-upper" and face cream from Lorene; nightgown from Pat & Lois; note paper from Aletha; poinsettia plant from Sunday School class.

Thursday, December 26, 1963

Finished Norma’s dress. Bill brought floor lamp from B&M Electric Co. in a.m.; cost $2.28 for repair. M.E. gave me $5.00 instead of dress which was too small. Linda returned nightgown and slip and got $9.35 in return as no dresses in stock. M.E. and Bill came after work. Most of the snow has melted.

Roberta Clark brought her jacket back as too large below waist and left a grey skirt to be shortened. I started working on them.

Finished altering Bert’s jacket and skirt. M.E. and Bill here in a.m. - took clock to exchange for electric. Linda had hair appointment in aft. Lorene got Norma’s dress this aft. while Linda was getting hair fixed. Let out seams in Linda’s light blue brocade jacket.

L&J went to 10:30 church. Nellie and Marshall Long were there. L&J went to shopping center. I finished letting out seams on Linda’s blue brocade dress.

Monday, December 30, 1963

Finished Linda’s brocade dress alterations and worked on Mrs. Gerster’s tan dress. Bobbi Gerster brought 3 skirts to be altered tonight. Nellie, Marshall Long and Marcy’s four children (2 girls & 2 boys) called on me this aft. Bert got her jacket and skirt tonight. Received letter from Uncle Rob and pkg. from Ken & Anne containing rice flour and syrups for pancakes and honey.

Worked on Bobbi Gerster’s skirts. Linda had hair appointment at 9 a.m. Jerry took her and they came back at noon. Ann Colburn and Mr. Pratt called on us in p.m. L&J went out with Barb and Allen Howard tonight to the Lincoln Theater and then to Babe & Jim’s. Received income tax forms
