Finished a skirt for Maxine Carr that a Jacksonville dressmaker started for her. Linda took down the Christmas tree this afternoon. Claire Carr got Maxine’s skirt tonight. Mrs. Greening got son’s Boy Scout uniform tonight, or rather late afternoon. Had baked ham for supper, but tainted, so will return it to National Food Store.

Bob [Cantrall] here from 9:45-12:45 p.m. Linda went to Gibbons funeral [Special Agent in Charge of FBI] at 10:30 a.m. with Barbara Howard. She went to National Food Store in aft. Jerry came home sick from work at 5:30 p.m. Linda phoned Bob Bastas to tell him they wouldn’t be able to come tonight. I worked on her coat alterations.

Linda and Mark went to Sunday School. Lorene phoned. She’s been back since Monday. Cousin Willis went to hospital Dec. 26th. I worked on Linda’s coat. Marshall and Nellie Long came around noon. Willene and Elizabeth came in for a few minutes at 2 p.m. Jerry okay today. J&L&M went to Steinberg-Baum’s late afternoon and got two batteries for my transistor radio, then went out to Bartlett’s to get eggs.

Finished altering Linda’s coat. She and Mark went to Sears around noon to get Spring-Summer general catalog. Ordered skirt and dress for Linda and sandbox for me to give Mark for his birthday from Penney’s. Received card from M-W for their new catalog.

Jerry went to Ottawa. Ann VonBehren wore pink spring coat over to see if I could suggest how to make it smaller. Linda went to bunco party at Evelyn Jones’ tonight.
Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1965
Wrote letters to Alice and Alice Jean. Received letters from Alice and Norine. Worked on Herb England’s shirts. Linda and Mark went to Gundy’s late afternoon. Phoned Bert Clark this morning and she said she’d come for her dress but she failed to show up. Jerry got Mark’s 2 sweaters that Linda ordered from Penney’s to replace suit that M.E. and Bill gave him for Christmas. Also got M-W catalog.

Worked on Herb England’s shirts. Mrs. Coleman [Willene’s mother] came here from 1-2:50 p.m. as Willene not home. Ann here for a few minutes. Linda and Mark went to National late aft. Shari Emerson got her shorts and left skirt and dress to be altered; also didn’t take plaid skirt (left some time ago) as she wants waistband enlarged. Jerry went to Rock Island. Buzz here around noon. Bert Clark came for dress after work. Linda ordered another sweater for Mark from Penney’s to replace one received yesterday which was too small; also material for a dress I want to make for Karen. Received Spring-Summer catalog from Spiegel’s.

Finished Herb England’s shirt repairs. Jerry got Linda’s skirt and dress at Penney’s this aft. The sandbox was shipped separately and will come later.

Jerry worked today. Bert Clark brought 2 skirts to be shortened and taken in on sides this a.m. Linda had hair appointment this aft. Jim, Mike and Steve here for a little while late afternoon. I altered Shari Emerson’s 2 skirts and shortened her red wool dress. Jerry and Mark went to Gundy’s tonight.

J&L&M went to Sunday School. I baked a pecan pie and worked on Bert’s clothes. Jerry ordered a pizza and salads for supper tonight.
Monday, Jan. 11, 1965
Finished Bert’s skirt alterations. Linda and Mark went to Luer’s for pair of black oxfords (size 8E) for him and then to Steinberg-Baum’s to return package of cookies that were wormy. They stopped at Willene’s on way home. Left at 11 a.m. and got back at 2 p.m. Jerry got sandbox, Karen’s dress material, and Mark’s sweater at Penney’s. Bert got her skirts on way home from work. Received 2 calendars from Lorene. Lois came at 6:30 p.m. with 3 skirts and a jumper to be shortened and altered. The Chiltons came after she left.

Jerry went to Vandalia. I worked on Lois’ skirts and jumper. Mary Ellen and Christina came after trip to doctor – she now weighs 9 lb. 7 oz. and 21 ½ inches long – a gain of 3 lbs. 1 oz. over birth weight and 2 ½ inches longer. Ann came over to see her. Shari got her 2 skirts and dress at 6:30 p.m.

Finished Lois’ jumper and skirt alterations. Buzz phoned tonight; wanted to know if I’d heard any more from Mr. Diller and I hadn’t. He was in bed on account of a cold. Received desk calendar from Lorene which I gave to J&L for their desk. Phoned Lorene and she said Cousin Willis coming home from hospital tomorrow.

Jerry went to Quincy. Linda & Mark left at 10 a.m. to get M.E. and Christina. M.E. gave me a perm and it turned out fine. Linda took them home about 3:30 p.m. They stopped at Gundy’s going and Linda stopped at National coming home. I cut out Karen’s dress and finished Lois’ alterations. Mr. Johnson came for key for 1526 Homewood to appraise it – quoted $8,500, but Jim thinks he can get more. Jerry got home approximately 6 p.m. Received letter from Alice – Wes had another heart attack Saturday and in the hospital since Monday. Called Buzz and Minnie and they both phoned her tonight and then called me.

Jerry went to Quincy. Worked on Karen’s dress. Linda went to Gundy’s in aft. Wrote letter to Alice. Linda shoveled walk and driveway around noon. Mark played in the snow for first time and really enjoyed it.

Jerry went to office. Worked on Karen’s dress. Linda had hair appointment in aft. Jerry came home at 4:30 and shoveled walk and enough of driveway to accommodate wheel chair and lift. We left at 5:30 for Pat & Lois’ – had a very nice evening and a delicious dinner. I took Lois her jumper and 3 skirts which I altered – no charge.

No one went to Sunday School. M.E. & Bill came early aft. They’ve decided to buy another house and live alone [not buy my house & live with me]. I worked on Karen’s dress. J&L&M went to Steinberg-Baum’s at 5:30 and got 3 boxes of Metrecal wafers for me, then went to Bartlett’s to get eggs and to Joneses to get card tables and chairs for bunco party here Tuesday eve. I think I must have the “1 day flu” or an upset stomach.

Linda went to dinner at the Old Luxemburg – farewell dinner for Barbara Howard. Received a box of greeting cards and valentines from Midwest Card Co.

Cut out Maxine’s blue skirt and blouse and started putting it together. Phoned Spiegel’s – my coral dress is in, $5.36. Minnie phoned tonight to read letter from Alice. Wes is continuing to improve. Bess Kenney phoned, too. Linda had bunco party here tonight. She served cheese cake with cherry topping, coffee, tea, and hard candy. Jerry and Mark went to Chilton’s. Linda won 2nd prize – a pink bathroom set.

Jerry went to Geneva. Worked on Maxine’s blue blouse and altered Shari Emerson’s green slacks. M.E. and Christina here from 10:30 a.m. until about 3:30 p.m. Linda received clock she bought with sales slips from Gundy’s.

Worked on Maxine’s blue blouse. Betty Patton came at 11 a.m. to have pattern for jacket fitted. Linda and Mark went to National Food Store. Phoned Olga re someone living with me and she recommended Jacki Woodrum – she was to phone this eve. but didn’t. Joe and Janice Petschauer [friends of Jerry’s] and children here in evening. Linda served chocolate cupcakes and coffee.

Jerry went to Waukegan. I phoned Charles Lee re someone staying here and he suggested a couple; also phoned Eva [Dr. Shriner’s nurse] who suggested her former housekeeper. I phoned Ann VonBehren and she thought her mother-in-law might know someone. Linda went to Dr. Link’s office at 1:30 p.m.

Jerry worked at office today. Mark and Linda went to Gundy’s this a.m. Linda had hair appointment this afternoon. I phoned Kreider’s in p.m. Uncle Hughes here in a.m. Worked on Maxine’s skirt. Faced hem on my blue print dress tonight. Linda got coral dress ($5.36) for me at Spiegel’s. I like it very much.

Mary Ellen and Christina came in a.m. Mary Ellen shampooed and set my hair. I cut out Betty Patton’s black linen jacket and started sewing on it. M.E. & Christina left about 3 p.m. Linda and Mark went to Gundy’s late aft. Joyce German and girl friend came after supper. Joyce left 2 skirts and 2 pc. outfit to be altered. Willene and Elizabeth here in a.m. She took 1 doz eggs that Ann VonBehren wanted as we had too many.

She received monogrammed glasses and decanter from Nabisco that she ordered Dec. 6. I worked on Betty’s jacket. Ed and Janet Savorgino came tonight re living here – I like them.

Pat & Lois found a bedroom set for me this eve. and I gave them check for $25 to hold it – will pay balance of $50 when delivered. Phoned Charles Lee to tell him how well I liked Janet and Ed. Worked on Betty’s jacket.

Worked on Betty’s jacket. Phoned Arnold Stern of Stern’s Furniture Co. and ordered second-hand sofa (orig. $354 for $40) and new cricket chair, $24.95. He’s sending them out on approval on Monday. Carol Chilton phoned – Dr. Reynolds & family have vacated Dawn Drive house. M.E. and Bill are dickering for house near Camp Lincoln, $11,500. L&M went to Gundy’s and National this aft.

Worked on Betty’s jacket. Linda had hair appointment this aft. I phoned Janet Savorgino and told her that Jerry and Linda would move before Feb. 28th; also invited them for dinner on Feb. 11th. Mark fell out of high chair tonight. He didn’t seem to suffer any bad after effects.

Jerry has his work caught up so he and Linda went out to Quality Furniture Co. and bought RCA washer & dryer and G.E. stove and refrigerator this morning. Mark went with them. They went out to Dawn Drive in aft. but Mark stayed with me. Mr. Stern overlooked making out order on sofa and chair so won’t be delivered until tomorrow a.m. Package came from Midwest Card Co.

Phoned Dr. Shriner’s office in a.m. and talked to Eva about my flu symptoms. I’m to be on liquid diet and take 2 aspirin or bufferin every 4 hours. Stayed in bed all aft. and early evening but got up before Linda went to bunco party at Kay’s. Sofa and chair came from Stern’s in a.m. They’ll be fine. Jerry went to Danville.

Jerry went to Rockford. Lucille Hurd brought coat to be shortened in a.m. Linda and Mark went to Steinberg-Baum’s in a.m. J&L&M went out to Dawn Drive to paint and clean tonight. I ordered drapery liners for front bedroom curtains from Sears. Shortened Lucille Hurd’s coat. Bill Madden [co-worker of Ray’s] died this aft. from heart trouble. He was 61 years old yesterday.

Finished Betty’s jacket and mended plaid blanket and my slips and blue gown. Jerry went to Decatur. Mary Ellen and Christina came in aft. with proofs from Jay Home Portraits of Christina – all very good. They stopped by Cousin Willis’ and Lorene gave M.E. a knitted dress.

Jerry went to Decatur. L&M went to K-Mart this a.m. Got a pink bedspread, a can opener, satin blanket binding, 2 sofa pillows, and drapery liners from Sears. I bound the blue wool blanket and sewed the front bedroom drapery panels together; also mended Mark’s stuffed Santa Claus. They did some more painting at Dawn Drive tonight. I talked to Ed and Janet about dinner here Thursday evening.

Mark and Linda went to shopping center in a.m. I worked a little on Linda’s striped draperies and finished mending and inserting elastic in my pink and blue nylon long sleeve gowns. Linda went to Dawn Dr. in aft. and then she, Mark and Jerry went out there tonight. Ed Savorgino phoned re what they should wear tomorrow evening. I put hooks in liners and beige draperies for front bedroom as Linda will want to hang them this evening when they get back.

Jerry went to Vandalia. I ordered toaster from Penney’s, 3 rugs from Alden’s, and 2 pillows from Spiegel’s. M.E. left Christina here in a.m. while she went downtown. I worked on Linda’s striped draperies. Shari Emerson left 2 skirts to be shortened and slacks that one leg was too long. Ed and Janet here for supper. Jerry was late as he also had to go to Decatur. Mr. King and Mrs. Faust (insurance agents for American Prog. Health Ins. Co.) here at noon, but I didn’t get any insurance yet. He came again at 4:30 and left forms for Jerry to check. Received valentines from K. Gathard and Sunday School class.

Worked on Linda’s draperies. Warren King, salesman for Amer. Progressive Health Ins. Co., came at noon but I decided not to take any insurance from him. L&J&M went out to their house tonight; Tom [Nichols] and friend laid linoleum in their kitchen. Frances Jordan and Genevieve Welle [from Sunday School class] here from 8 til 9 p.m. Genevieve gave me new class book.

Jerry went to office in a.m. Buzz came about 10:30. Opal Schell came at 11 and I signed for cancer policy and one on general health – cost $57.70 ($16 for cancer and $41.70 enrollment and quarter-year payment on gen. health). Linda had hair appointment in aft. She got curtains at Spiegel’s for kitchen and at Penney’s for Mark’s room. They went out to Dawn Dr. after supper and painted living room and hall. I altered Opal’s dress and shortened Shari’s light blue skirt. Received valentines from Dougherty’s and Genevieve Welle. Jerry gave Linda a white satin heart box with Russell Stover mixed chocolates.

Linda and Mark went to Sunday School. Linda gave me a valentine from Mark at dinner. She made 2 doz. white cupcakes decorated with white frosting, pink coconut and red hots. We also had baked ham, raisin sauce, mashed potatoes, green beans, fruit salad, tea and coffee. L&J went out to Dawn Dr. to paint in afternoon. Cousin Willis and Lorene came about 3 p.m. I finished shortening Shari’s blue skirt and green slacks. Ironed 2 dresses.

L&M went to shopping center in a.m. I had Linda get 1 lb. Fannie May candy for her valentine gift from me. She went out to paint at Dawn Dr. in aft. with Frances. Mrs. Greening brought slacks and skirt for zipper replacement this aft. Jerry went out to their house to paint tonight. Spiegel’s phoned that pillows are in.

Alden’s phoned that rugs are in. Mary Ellen shampooed my hair this a.m. Linda and Frances painted at Dawn Dr. this aft. Lorene, Cousin Willis, Malford and Bernice Hanson here later for Bernice to try on suit. I replaced zippers on skirt and slacks and started altering skirts for Greening girl. Ira Richardson (Lillian’s husband) died at 8 p.m. from heart failure.

Finished Greening things; she got them this aft. Linda took Mark to Columbia Studio to get 2-year picture taken at 11 a.m., then went to Ann Rutledge Beauty Shop; Chris [her beautician] got Mark a toy guitar for his birthday. Jim, Caryl, Doug, David & Scott here in aft. Linda and Jim took me up to Grandma’s house so I could see how it looks since redecorating. It’s sold – $10,000. Linda painted my front bedroom aqua and I worked on drapery liners. J&L&M went out to their house tonight.

14.4 inches of snow in last 3 days – biggest snowfall in 65 years. Jerry went out to Dawn Dr. this a.m. to shovel snow. Finished altering liners for front bedroom draperies; also started altering Opal Schell’s dress.

Re-covered invalid ring. Jerry working at office today. Linda shoveled driveway. Buzz here early aft. Worked on Opal Schell’s dress. Linda had party to celebrate Mark’s 2nd birthday. Frances, Kenny, Diane, Kay, Donna, Don, Joyce, David, Brenda, Bob, Bobbi Kay, Willene, Tom, Elizabeth, Janet & Ed, Mary Ellen, Bill, Christina, Pat and Lois were here. She served cake, ice cream, coffee and tea. Lois gave me colored snapshot that Pat took of Christina and 3 black & white ones of Mark to Linda.

Pat and Herbert Craig brought bedroom set at 9:20 a.m. and Jerry’s dad came same time and started moving J&L’s things. We had dinners delivered from Chicken Delight for evening meal. Bob Chilton, Tom Nichols and Tom Hughes assisted Jerry in afternoon. L&J&M left at 7 p.m. and Ed & Janet finished moving in at 9 p.m. We watched TV, then all in bed a little after 11:00. Everything is working out fine.

Janet & Ed went to early church, stopped for groceries, then home about 10:30 a.m. Janet prepared dinner – rump roast, browned potatoes, gravy, corn, tossed salad, cake & ice cream roll, and coffee. M.E. and Christina came before we were through. She had Christina’s pictures from Jay Home Portraits and they are excellent. I started getting figures ready for income tax returns. Jerry, Linda & Mark here for a little while tonight.

Caryl called for Linda re she and Jerry going to attorney’s office to sign paper that Grandma’s estate doesn’t exceed $20,000; so I gave Caryl their new number. I finished Opal’s dress and worked on income tax returns. Mark and Linda came to watch “The Andy Williams Show”. Mark has a cold.

Ed’s day off. Ed & Janet went to doctor and hospital in aft. I finished filling out tax forms. Talked to Linda on phone and Mark’s cold is better. She thought Jerry might be late getting home tonight and would bring Mark here, but not necessary now as he got back in town middle aft. She’s going to bunco party at Bartlett’s. Lorene phoned at 6:30 p.m. Cousin Willis was worse over the weekend but is better today.

Pat here in a.m. – went over to Dougherty’s and got old TV set and took it out to Linda. Mailed income tax returns. Marty Shadis left 2 dresses and skirt to be altered at noon. Received notice from Guaranty Reserve Ins. Co. that I wasn’t accepted due to past health history. Phoned Opal Schell and she’s sending receipt to them so they’ll make refund.

Lorene got Bernice’s suit and was going to take it to her but decided weather too unpredictable and phoned her that she wasn’t coming. Bernice said they might drive down Monday. Worked on Marty’s silk dress and wool dress alterations.

No one went to Sunday School or church. Janet & Ed went to store at noon; also took 2 of my dresses to go in with their “self-service” dry cleaning load. Linda, Jerry and Mark here tonight to see “Bonanza”. Worked on belt for Marty.

Finished re-covering Marty’s belt. Florence Trede and Mrs. Hornley were here in aft. Florence brought slacks and skirt to be altered and Mrs. Hornley left a coat to be shortened. Received check from Bernice Hanson for suit. Linda and Mark here tonight to see “Andy Williams Show”.

Marty got her dress & skirt at noon. I finished her silk dress and started shortening Mrs. Hornley’s coat. Linda and Mark here this a.m. to get some coat hangers. Janet & Ed went to Zayre’s this aft. Timmy VonBehren brought some grey rayon tape for above coat this aft. Bob Chilton connected TV for L&J tonight. M..E. took Christina to doctor for 4 month checkup. She’s 25 3/4 inches long and weighs 11 lbs. 12 oz.

Finished Mrs. Hornley’s coat and worked on Florence Trede’s skirt. Sally Mosteka brought lilac jersey dress for facing at neck. Mary Ellen and Christina here all day. M.E. shampooed and set my hair and assisted me in washing my feet.

Finished Florence Trede’s skirt and started altering her slacks. Cut out Bernice Hanson’s cape. Alice Carpenter left suit to be altered this aft. I gave Varns boy $1.00 for votes in Jerome popularity contest this eve.; also paid paper boy for 3 weeks, including 60 cents for Linda’s magazines.

Worked on Bernice’s cape. M.E. left Christina here while she and Bill bought their house. Linda left Mark here while at dentist. He had a bad cold so she stopped at doctor’s on way home. He gave him a shot and prescription. Florence Trede and Alta Hornley got their clothes and Florence left more to be altered.

Worked on Bernice’s cape. Marty Shadis came for silk dress – she’s coming back Monday to pay for everything. Ed’s sister Barbara here this aft. and stayed for supper. Janet & Ed and Barbara got groceries later, picked up Roger [Barbara’s husband] and came back here for rest of evening. Margie and Tom Stephans and children came around 6:00 looking for Jerry and Linda. I told them they’d moved, and they said they will look them up later.

Janet woke me up at 5:15 a.m. as she had to go to hospital. Ed phoned about 8:15 that doctor would be there at 10 a.m. I called his mother. Linda, Jerry and Mark came about 11 a.m. and took me to their new home. They really have it fixed up nice. Had a delicious dinner. Ed phoned at 7 p.m. to tell us they have a baby daughter named Lisa Marie, weight 7 lbs., born at 4 p.m. We went to Chilton’s for Bobbi Kay’s birthday party. I gave her a red-checked swimsuit. My wheelchair broke down – I had to be carried in and out of their house on a kitchen chair. L&J&M will stay here while Janet in hospital. Ed will be staying at his mother’s.

Received 2 tickets to Alice Carpenter’s style show but can’t use them. Linda brought 2 boxes of Girl Scout cookies I ordered from Diane (1 mint and 1 sandwich) and some homemade fudge.

Easter. Janet, Ed and Lisa went to 10:30 a.m. church and to his mother’s for dinner. L&J&M went to Sunday School and church and then were here for dinner. Linda made cherry cheesecake and I baked a ham, made sweet potatoes, white potatoes, green beans, and after Linda got here she made raisin sauce, mashed the potatoes, heated the rolls, and made coffee. I worked on Florence’s suit. Linda brought a box of Easter candy for me. She looked very nice in her dress [that I made] and Mark looked pretty sharp in his suit.

Lengthened my pastel plaid dress. Linda and Mark came at 11:30 a.m. and took me to Dr. Link’s office. Jerry and Bill met us there and got me into his office. He worked on my teeth for 1 ½ hrs., filled 3 teeth and took impressions for new partials. Received a pair of shoes from Ed and Janet. Received Mother’s Day card from Pat & Lois. Ed brought stroller home for Lisa this evening. Lorene, Cousin Willis and his nurse here after I got back from dentist.

Mother’s Day. Janet, Ed, Lisa and I went to Mary Ellen’s at 12:30 p.m. for dinner and got home at 5:30. She had a very good dinner and really had a nice time. Mr. and Mrs. Dougherty were there, too. M.E. and Bill gave me a teflon cookie sheet and nylon pancake turner. Linda, Mark & Jerry came at 10:30 a.m. and gave me a lovely popcorn popper; Jim & Caryl sent me a beautiful bouquet. I started altering Shirley’s dress and did some more altering on her navy skirt.

Worked on Shirley’s dresses. Ed got 3 quarts of strawberries for $1.00, which I paid for. M.E. and Christina came in aft. and she shampooed and set my hair. I made shortcake for lunch (Janet, M.E. and I ate it) and made another ½ recipe for Ed, Janet and me for supper. M.E. got baking pan instead of cookie sheet in a.m. Buzz here for a few minutes and saw Christina for first time. Bess Kenney phoned in aft.

Had a very nice time.

Jane Brummett came tonight with clothes to be altered. Received 2 dresses from Warren, PA (pink stripe and strawberry print); ordered 3 dresses from same place (2 for self and 1 for Linda).

Pat and Lois came between 6 & 7:30 p.m. – brought me a 2 lb. box of Pease’s assorted chocolates (belated Mother’s Day gift) and I sold him my power mower for $5.00. Janet and Ed got groceries between 9 & 10 p.m. at Gundy’s. I phoned Diller’s new home and talked to woman taking care of it. She said he is very busy and in good health. Susan Brummett brought pr. Levi’s to be tapered from knee to ankle.

I kept Mark while she looked for a wedding gift for Maureen Yocom and deposited some policies in my safe deposit box at Springfield Marine Bank. Uncle Hughes came early afternoon and brought 4 lb. sirloin tip roast and 3 pkgs. ground beef. I gave Linda one pkg. beef and ½ of Pease’s chocolates that Pat & Lois gave me for Mother’s Day. Ed went to see his father at St. John’s Hospital this eve. Ira Huston picked up TV this morning.

Janet and Ed went to get groceries at Gundy’s then went to Calvary Cemetery; also got their supper out (hamburgers, etc.). I phoned Lorene while they were gone. Linda phoned this evening to tell me Nannie Jones died in her sleep last night. She was 86 years old.

Ed, Janet and Lisa took me to Linda’s at 9:10 a.m. and came for me at 7:15 p.m. Had a very nice visit with Linda and Mark. Saw their new carpet in living room and hall. Gave M.E. yardage needed for Christina and she ordered material from Penney’s. On our way home, we drove past and around the old Diller house and then out to the new one as Janet had never seen them. Charles Lee came after we got home and showed last pictures of Bible story. Ed and Janet told him they want to be baptized Sunday morning. Linda gave us a loaf of banana bread. She went to bunco party at Jan Pettschauer’s tonight.

Linda, Jerry & Mark came at 4:40 and took me to Joyce’s for potluck supper in honor of David’s 4th birthday (couple days late). I went in with L&J&M on pants, shirt and cardigan for him. Ed cut front and back yard tonight.

Memorial Day. Linda, Jerry & Mark came at 10:30 to take me to Roselawn and Oak Ridge Cemeteries. They brought me home, then they went back to their home to fry a chicken, got deviled eggs and a fruit salad for a picnic in our backyard at 2 p.m. Jim and family brought 2 fried chickens, potato chips, 3 pkgs. cookies and iced tea. M.E. brought 1 chicken, potato salad and potato chips. I furnished a chicken, baked beans and a gallon of vanilla ice cream. We had a really nice time. Janet and Ed went to church, then to his folks and got back about 8 p.m. I altered Emma Kreider’s aunt’s dress.

Emma Kreider picked up her aunt’s dress this a.m. Replaced zipper in Mr. Emerson’s slacks and started working on Christina’s bedroom curtains. M.E. , Bill and Christina here in aft. I started on complete Metracal diet today. Janet and Ed went to store and his mother’s around suppertime. He’s off again today. Linda King came at 7 p.m. for tan dress and jacket and pink dress fitting.

Janet and Ed went to 10:30 church. Linda, Mark & Jerry came at 12:30 and took me to M.E.’s for dinner. Took bedroom curtains for Christina and bathroom curtains and 4 pr. socks for Christina. Had a very nice time. Got home at 4:30 p.m. Drove through Washington Park before coming home. Rose garden was beautiful. Ed and Janet got home at 6:00 and left at 8 p.m. and came back at 9:30.

Linda phoned last night – invited Ed, Janet and me for dinner Wednesday evening. Mrs. Savorgino brought 2 boxes of strawberries she picked at Jeffrey’s Orchard for Ed and Janet this morning.

Garbage disposer jammed and we all worked on it but still doesn’t operate.

M.E. and Christy left at 3:45 p.m. Cousin Willis, Lorene and his nurse came about 4:30. Lois came for her skirts while they were here. Altered and lengthened Jennie Rodems’ pink knit dress. Tom & Willene moved today.

Linda forgot to get the dinner meat out of freezer so we stopped at 25 Dawn Drive to do that, then to Post Office to get keys for 1526 Homewood from Jerry, then to Sears to have duplicates made for me, then to Dairy Queen for sundaes (30-cent size for 19 cents), then home. Janet passed her written driver’s test. Ann came for a few minutes in afternoon.

Pleasant Nursery trimmed shrubs this a.m. Ed at airport all day. Linda came for me at 1:20 and took me to Dr. Link’s office. Jerry and Bill met us there. My dentures cost $140 plus $20 for 3 fillings and cleaning (latter done previously) and I gave check for $80. Linda, Mark and I got hamburgers, etc. at Top’s later. Ed gave Janet a driving lesson tonight. M.E., Bill and Christina here for a little while. They brought a clothes prop [for clothes line] and a pink eyelet dress for mending. Minnie phoned re furnace replacing. Received card from Warren from Miami. I cut out and worked on bodice for Aletha’s dress and mended M.E.’s dress and Mark’s grey shorts.

Mary Ellen brought Bill’s ripped pants and I stitched them on machine. She left about 9 p.m. and took pink dress I mended.

Ed cut the front and back yard tonight, then they went for a drive at 8:00 (Janet is practicing driving).

Worked on M.E. Jennings’ dress and Aletha’s blouse. Mary Ellen came for me at 9:30 but we didn’t leave until 10:30. She got Jerry an apron, hat & glove for outdoor cooking for his birthday and paid telephone bill. Then we went to Linda’s but she wasn’t home, so after stopping at Sears (to get above gift for Jerry) we came home. M.E. phoned Linda and she had just got home. We went back for her and Mark and went to hamburger stand at North Grand & Rutledge. M.E. Jennings got her things this eve. Ed worked until 7 p.m. Margaret phoned to thank me for birthday gift. Janet and Ed told me at 9 p.m. that she’s going back to work and are moving out in 30 days.

Charles Welton came at 7:50 a.m. to install new sink, outside “freeze-proof” faucet, and flourescent tube in bathroom; also larger screws in bathroom wall switch. Linda and Mark came at 9 a.m. to add wall tile above sink (which is lower than old one). We all went to Frostie at Rutledge and North Grand for lunch – stopped at Kresge’s (shopping center) for dish drainer, pads for drainboards, and shelving paper. Linda and Janet covered all the drawers and shelves in sink cabinet and put everything back in place. Linda cut out Aletha’s brown & pink wool dresses. They left about 3:30 p.m. I worked on M. Garfield’s duster. Ed told me tonight they’re moving Tuesday, so I phoned Dolores.

Garfield, Aletha, and Linda’s clothes – will be delivered Monday.

They all came home at 11 p.m. Linda phoned that Mark has a rash and she thinks it’s the measles.

She brought Dolores out this aft. and Janet gave her some instructions on how to operate my lift, etc. Linda phoned doctor who advised that Mark has the measles. He burnt 3 fingers with electric device used for heating cup of coffee or other liquid [also burned a hole in the bedspread in the process]. Carol Butler brought 6 of Herb England’s shirts for me to turn collars & trim & reseam cuffs tonight. Received sewing items from Bressmer’s around noon. Mummert’s delivered seat for lift.

Mary Ellen and Christina came at 9:30 a.m. Janet and Ed rented a 2-wheel trailer and moved most of their stuff in 2 loads and finished with just the car – took most of the day. M.E. took Christina for 8-month check-up. She just gained 4 oz. in a month. M.E. cleaned the 2 closets in kitchen and put on new shelf paper. I worked on M. Garfield’s p.j.’s. Buzz here this a.m. I gave M.E. money to get hamburgers & fries on way home from doctor’s office. Mark much better and rash is clearing up. Dave and Carole Neat [Dolores’ children] and 2 men brought load of furniture at 7:20 p.m. and finished about 9:30 p.m. Dave and Carole are fine. Mr. Minch brought 3 pr. slacks and tie for repair tonight.

Carole’s girl friend brought her home about 9 p.m. and Dolores and Dave came at 9:30.

Neats left at 7:35 a.m. I worked on M. Garfield’s p.j.’s. Mary Ellen, Bill and Christina came this evening. Bill went to store to get milk for baby and eskimo pies. The Neats came back at 8:30 p.m. Dave left to go on a date.

Neats left at 7:50 a.m. I worked on M. Garfield’s p.j.’s. Linda and Mark came at 11 a.m. She hung 2 dresses and gown outside that I washed, then got groceries, took them home, and on way back got 2 fish sandwiches, 1 hamburger and 2 french fries – we drank “Like” with them. Neats came home about 10 p.m. and brought Eddie, their dog, this time.

Dave left at 8:10 a.m. and Dolores and Carole at 10:30 a.m. for church. Linda and Mark came a little later and took me to their house for dinner and supper. I made pastry for a blueberry pie (which was delicious – Linda prepared the filling) and I also made a shell for a pie for Buzz. Linda and Mark brought me home at 10:30 p.m. She lost a contact lens just as we were leaving their house.

Neats left at 7:45 a.m. and got back at 5:45 p.m. Mark and Linda came at 1 p.m. She filled pie shell (butterscotch) for Buzz and he came for it at 5:40 p.m. She had appointment with Dr. Shriner at 2:15. He gave her an injection for a cyst on her ovary. I took care of Mark. I finished Mr. Minch’s slacks and tie mending. Three girls came to see Carole in afternoon but since she wasn’t here they came back tonight. They went for a walk and Carole got back at 9 p.m. David had boy friend (Bill) here for supper. They went to Douglas Park to help at church ice cream social, then he and girl friend picked up Carole and went to Sangamon County Fair at New Berlin.

Neats left at 7:50 a.m. Young’s service man installed new element (left-hand) (surface unit) in stove. Finished Jennie Rodems’ slacks and skirt. Linda and Mark came at 11 a.m. and we went to North Grand and Rutledge for lunch, then to DQ for sundaes. On way home we stopped at Town & Country Bank to cash check I got from M. Garfield. Ella Long came at 4 p.m. with dress to be shortened. Carole got back at 4:30. David went to Rochester to watch oil drilling, came back at 9 p.m., and then drove to Decatur and back. Dolores and Carole went to church at 7 p.m. and got back at 9:30. Lorene and Catherine Wilson came at 8 p.m. and stayed until D&C came back.

Linda and Mark came about noon and we went out for lunch. Carole went to a friend’s and David went on a date tonight.

David went to church and Dolores and Carole walked to Gundy’s this a.m. Susan Brummett brought shorts for zipper replacement. I worked on Aletha’s dress. David and Dolores took Carole to Sweetwater this aft. The Chiltons had all the Bartletts for dinner today. David and Dolores got back at 7:45 p.m. Dave went to Gundy’s and got ½ gal. ice cream and served Dr. Pepper floats. Marge and Bob left this morning by plane for 2 weeks vacation in New York and Connecticut – due in New York about 3:30 p.m.

Worked on Aletha’s dress. Linda and Mark came a little before noon and washed kitchen curtains and hung them outdoors with some things I’d washed. Went to Rutledge and North Grand for lunch after stopping at Lazar’s to pick up 2 gal. distilled water. Then to Dairy Queen for hot fudge sundaes. Dolores and David came home at 6 p.m. Madeline Pettibone and Lillian Richardson came at 8:15 to make plans for potluck in my backyard on August 10th. They left about 9:30. Minnie phoned a little after 10:00 to tell me that Bob phoned that Robbie had taken his own life – no other details except despondent over job, and that they’d be back in 48 hrs. I phoned relatives and friends.

Linda and Mark came about 11 a.m. She hung kitchen curtains which I ironed before they came. She had hair appointment at noon and got back at 3:30. She brought cheeseburgers and french fries and cokes from MacDonald’s. I worked on Aletha’s dress.

Linda, Mark, Mary Ellen and Christina came around noon. We went to Rutledge and North Grand for lunch, then to DQ for sundaes, except M.E. got a large cone. When we got back, Mary Ellen shampooed and set my hair and Linda cleaned living room, kitchen, and my bedroom, and washed my feet. Buzz and family got back about 5:30 p.m. and he phoned me at 9 p.m.

I ordered three cotton twill pants and 3 plaid gingham shirts for Mark from Montgomery Ward this afternoon. Dolores took first driving lesson from 6 to 7 p.m. She passed the written test before work this a.m.

Worked on Aletha’s brown dress and altered Mrs. Engle’s dress and 2 pr. slacks for Mr. Minch. Linda and Mark came at 10 a.m., took down the white draperies in my bedroom, and left them at dry cleaners on way to doctor to have contacts checked at 11 a.m. She came back and we went out for lunch. She got a belt kit for Aletha’s dress and we paid the water bill. I paid $1.50 to paper boy for 2 weeks. Carole went to State Fair. We picked up draperies after we went to Dairy Queen and we pressed them and Linda re-hung them. Carole’s boyfriend Tom stayed overnight. David went to Grandstand show with Peg.

Garfield’s navy dress and bound facings of Aletha’s green corduroy jumper. Lorene brought Dolores home in Cousin Willis’ car. Carole’s friend Tom’s father came for him at 6 p.m. She went to a girl friend’s later. David left early this morning for 2 weeks vacation in Michigan. Jerry got Mark’s pants & shirts at M-W and a catalog.

My 24th wedding anniversary. Dolores went to Spaulding’s on bus and for driving lesson after work – instructor is bringing her home. Carole went over to cousin’s after supper and Dolores walked over to Gundy’s for groceries. Shortened two dresses and mended one of them. Linda and Mark came at noon and we took Carole over to MacDonald’s for lunch; also got 2 wedding anniversary cards for Dougherty’s and Uncle Clyde, which Linda mailed for me. She also washed my feet.

Worked on M. Garfield’s skirt and jumper. Dolores phoned at 1 p.m. to tell me that Cousin Willis passed away at 12:20 p.m. Lorene and Dolores came about 3 p.m. She didn’t stay very long. Jim and Caryl came at 6:10 p.m. and took me to the fair. I enjoyed it very much. I popped by getting Jim a coke, Caryl a chocolate soda, and I got a hot fudge sundae. We picked up Karen and she stayed here overnight. Scott came along for the ride.

We went to cemetery and got back home at noon. Carole took care of Mark. We all got in Linda’s car and went to MacDonald’s, Penney’s and Dairy Queen. Peg Fifer (Dave’s girl friend) here tonight. Lorene phoned that I’d been remembered in Cousin Willis’ will.

Worked on Aletha’s corduroy jumper, finished 2 cotton dresses and pressed them. Mr. Huston came in a.m. to check TV. Later, two men from Winters’ TV took old set and left new one. Linda and Mark came a little while in afternoon to see it. Bob was here when they brought new set. Mary Ellen, Bill, Christina, and Mr. & Mrs. Dougherty here late afternoon. Dolores and Carole walked to Gundy’s for groceries before supper. Augie cut grass. Phoned Mr. Huston about old set, then phoned Linda, who decided to buy it. He’ll put in color filter Monday and probably deliver it Tuesday.

Dolores and Carole left on 8:10 a.m. bus to meet 9:05 bus to Champaign as Carole is staying for a week with her sister and family there. Dolores went on to church and got home at 12:45 p.m. We had dinner then Peg picked her up at 2:15 to go to Sweetwater. I had them mail a check for $10 to West Side Church for Memorial Fund in memory of W.J. Spaulding. I shortened M. Garfield’s jumper.

Dolores took driving lesson from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. Emma Kreider brought dress to be shortened. Mrs. North and daughter Linda came before she left with things to be altered. David Smith left slacks to be mended.

We stopped at Goldblatt’s where Linda got corduroy bib overalls for me to give Brian Chilton for his 1st birthday Saturday. Dolores got along fine on new job she started today at Strong’s Cafeteria. I had a scare this a.m. at 2 o’clock when someone kept banging on front door. I phoned Central Detective Agency and detective came in a few minutes but whoever it was left before detective came.

Cut out Aletha’s jacket and worked on it. Linda and Mark came at 11 a.m. and we went to their house to leave groceries, then to MacDonald’s for lunch. They left at 2:30 p.m. and Bob & Joyce Granda [Joyce is Carole’s sister] and Carole Neat came at 3 p.m. Linda, Mark and Jerry came at 8 o’clock. Linda, Carole and Mark drove to Gundy’s for a gallon of ice cream ($1.02 incl. tax, which I paid). Linda made chocolate syrup. Bob and Joyce left to look at apartments and get supper so didn’t get back until after Linda, Mark and Jerry left. Mrs. Smith got husband’s trousers and bought my old dishes for $40.

I placed an order with M-W for winter outfit for Christina and 3 pr. p.j.’s for Mark. Linda ordered cowboy bedspread, rug, etc. for Mark’s room. Finished Mrs. Barrick’s dress. Linda got proofs at Columbia. Carole Jagow went to Lafayette, Ind. for yr. nursing course.

Then we picked up bedspread and I mended place Mark had ripped with Linda’s earring. Augie cut the backyard and raked some of front yard tonight. Received postcard from Pat & Lois from Arizona; they’re going to California.

Dolores and Carol drove car to Gundy’s to get groceries around 6 p.m. Her nephew came tonight to adjust their TV.

Then we went to DQ – they had hot fudge sundaes and I had a cone. Jennie Rodems came to see shawl tonight but not what she wants. Florence Trede came for her dress tonight. Carole stayed all night with Joyce.

Emma Kreider got Mary’s dresses this aft. and Helen Overaker brought coat to be shortened and dress to be altered at 2:30 p.m. Carole babysat tonight. I started shortening Helen’s coat tonight.

Buzz left at 10:45 and Linda & Mark came at 11 a.m. We went to Penney’s and Linda got 3 pr. winter p.j.’s and red cap for Mark. We went to MacDonald’s for lunch. Carol Chilton and Bobbi Kay were there and she invited me for Thanksgiving. We got hot fudge sundaes at DQ. After we got home, I lengthened Mark’s coat sleeves. Emma Kreider got coat at 4 p.m.

Linda went to bunco party at Clara’s tonight. Carole babysat for former neighbors. Marie Stehman brought dress to be shortened and skirt to be altered this a.m.

I shortened Marie Stehman’s dress and started on brown skirt alterations. Linda and Mark came at noon and we went to Steak n Shake and DQ. I phoned M-W and told clerk to return Mark’s p.j.’s which finally came yesterday as Linda got 3 pr. from Penney’s. Linda dug balance of carrots in backyard. Mrs. Vogt brought 2 skirts and dress to be altered and Opal Schell brought corduroy dress and cotton plaid dress to be altered this afternoon. Mr. Davis inspected house for evidence of termites but found none.

Marie Stehman came for her skirt and dress at 9 a.m. and left a coat and 2 dresses to be shortened. She said she wrote Aletha re things I have finished for her. Linda & Mark came around noon. We took their groceries home, then got our lunch at Cozy Dog, 19 cents for one and 1 cent for another and 10 cents for one root beer and 1 cent for 2nd, then we had hot fudge sundaes at Dairy Queen. We stopped at 10-cent store and got gift wrapping paper. Augie cut the grass after school. I finished altering Opal Schell’s 2 dresses and started on Marie’s. Carole had grease fire trying to fry an egg & damaged stove.

Opal Schell came for her dresses at 11 a.m. Linda and Mark came a little later to get “baster” for turkey – she’s having Pat & Lois tonight. Carole left at 12:30 p.m. with the Granda’s – going to Clinton & Lincoln. Dolores came home at 5:15 p.m. in cab. She got Mrs. Hulen to take her to store. Carole came home at 6:15. I worked on Marie’s clothes. Lee’s delivered package from Bressmer’s for Linda’s birthday. Ann VonBehren borrowed brown sugar and left some tomatoes this aft.

Salvation Army men got papers this morning. Mark & Linda came at 11 a.m. and we went to town to get her birthday cake. Had lunch and then went to DQ. Mary Ellen, Bill, Christina, Jerry, Linda and Mark here tonight to celebrate Linda’s birthday. Jerry had planters filled with artificial flowers and also gave her 2 lb. box chocolates. Mark gave her a Dean Martin record, M.E. a purse, and I gave her galoshes, 3 pr. panties, and a duster. Jerry and Bill hung picture that Cousin Willis left me that Polly Baker Carswell painted. Neats went to Granda’s.

Saw Peggy and Neal Bastas at Russell’s. Mrs. Vogt came at 4 p.m. for her clothes. Bob and Joyce left Kim here tonight while they shopped. He left his shorts to be re-stitched.

Linda & Jerry went on a hay rack ride with Sunday School class. Mark was taken care of by Frances. I worked on Aletha’s pink dress.

Young’s serviceman came at 8:30 a.m. to check what’s needed to repair stove. Linda & Mark came at 11:30 a.m. and we went to MacDonald’s, then to DQ. Then we stopped at National and Gundy’s for groceries for dinner tonight. Esther, Clifford, Linda and Nancy Search and Mr. Coulter came at 6 p.m. Linda & Jerry came a little later. Esther brought a green jello salad, and I furnished fried chicken, baked beans, potato chips, stuffed olives, bread, butter, iced tea, coffee, and apple crisp with vanilla ice cream. They all left a little after 9:00 – the Searches leaving first.

Linda & Mark came around 12:30 p.m. and we went out for lunch, then Linda went to Dr. Bergmann who confirmed her suspicion that she’s 9-weeks pregnant and baby due May 16th. We stopped at DQ on way home. I shortened Betty’s coat. Linda left my electric blanket at Sears to be returned to factory for repair. She got shoes at repair shop and owes me 75 cents.

Jim and John Hammond brought us back at 10:35 a.m. Linda went to Mary Ellen’s to pick up Mark, went home to change clothes, do dishes, make beds, then came back about 12:30 p.m. We went out for lunch; stopped at Penney’s to get Christina’s snowsuit but sent wrong kind. Linda looked at Zayre’s but not satisfactory but got 3 suits for Danny, Doug and David. Went to DQ. Ordered snowsuit from M-W. Finished Brummett clothes.

Got Mary Ellen’s birthday cake and Linda got groceries at Kroger’s. After we got home, M.E. phoned that Bill got a job at Weaver’s. Beard girls came with coat to be altered. Lorene and Norma Gurske came with coat to be altered and material and pattern for dress. M.E. Jennings got Jim’s and her things before they left.

L&J&M gave her 7 pr. nylon panties and a slip, and I gave her $10 and a B&Z birthday cake (devil’s food with fall decorations). Linda had deep-fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, hot bread, waldorf salad, iced tea, ice cream, cake, and coffee. M.E. and Bill left at 6 p.m. and J&L&M brought me home at 9:15 p.m.

We had hamburgers, etc. at Steak n Shake and then to DQ for the usual. Dolores raked 3/4ths of front yard. Linda got groceries at National and got a tape measure at Woolworth’s and trick-or-treat candy for both of us at Walgreen’s.

Mr. Neat came out to see Dolores tonight. Bressmer’s delivered blanket I ordered for L&J for Christmas gift and took elec. one sent by mistake. Mrs. Shinkler brought material for 2 skirts at 2 p.m. Mr. Patton got Betty’s coat early evening. Linda, Mark & Jerry came for me at 7 p.m. They’d picked up the Chevy (just repaired) and left it here and we went to Mary Ellen’s in Olds to celebrate Christina’s first birthday. Had a nice time. Mr. & Mrs. Dougherty were there, too. Carole stayed all night with friends. Linda and Jerry took both cars home after dropping me off.

Mark & Linda came at 11:30 a.m. and we went out for lunch. Then we went to Sears to get blanket I ordered for Mark’s Christmas gift and Linda got a large Christmas wreath for front door. She got groceries at National and Gundy’s. I cut out Norma’s grey suit and started putting it together. Lorene came at 4 p.m. with notions for Norma’s suit. TV out of order tonight, phoned Huston TV Co., and he came soon after. One tube had to be replaced.

We stopped at Thrifty’s and each got 2 boxes of Brach’s candy for 59 cents – ordinarily 78 cents. Susan Brummett got her mother’s skirt tonight. Carole babysat for Kim tonight.

Linda & Mark came around noon and we went to Licata’s for beef sandwiches, etc. Got Bill a green sweater at Zayre’s and got garage curtains at Penney’s but those for west window are green instead of white. Carole home with cold.

Lorene and Norma came to get Norma’s coat and have suit fitted. She left another coat to be shortened. Carole didn’t go to school again today but went to church tonight.

Worked on Mrs. Freeman’s coat and on Mrs. Heintze’s suit. Buzz here in aft. Mary Kreider left her aunt’s dress which I shortened tonight. Dolores babysat for Kim today and Carole tonight. Sent order for name labels for Jerry and for me. Carole didn’t go to school.

Finished Mrs. Heintze’s suit. Altered Mrs. Kilpatrick’s blouse and mended her husband’s jacket. Mary Ellen came at noon and took 3 shirts back to Myers Bros. for credit and purchased 3 better ones for Mike, Steve & Tom. Emma Kreider picked up her aunt’s dress late afternoon. Dolores and Carole went to shopping center tonight. Carole didn’t go to school.

Worked on Aletha’s wool dresses and jacket. She and Ron came around 4 p.m. for fitting and took the 2 dresses I made in August; also jumper I finished for her. Mrs. Kilpatrick came for her blouse and husband’s suit coat at 2:30 and Mrs. Heintze got her coat, etc. later. Carole went to church lunch and Dolores went for supper at Odd Fellows Hall – got home at 7 p.m.

Dolores and Carole went to church in a.m. and p.m. Linda, Jerry & Mark came this afternoon to show me their new 88 Olds. Certainly a beautiful car! I shortened Norma’s coat and altered Mrs. Vogt’s 2 dresses.

Linda & Mark came at 11:30 a.m. and we got lunch at Steak n Shake, then to Penney’s to get the curtains for west window in garage. We stopped at National to get some bridge mix and chocolate covered peanuts. After they left, I cut out two skirts for Mrs. Skinkler and started putting them together. Dolores and Carole met in town after 4 p.m. and got home at 6:15. They went out to K-Mart with the Granda’s and got back around 9:30 p.m. Mary Ellen Jennings brought 2 coats for alterations.

Enlarged sash on Mrs. Vogt’s blue dress and worked on Norma’s suit jacket. Ordered 2 piece outfit for Mary Ellen from Sears. Amy McCoy and Merle Perkinton brought a basket of fruit from IHN Class. Mae Lettarst brought 4 dresses to be shortened this aft. Lorene and Norma came tonight. Norma tried on jacket and took coat home. She brought me a box of pins, pin cushion and container of yogurt. Carole babysat for Kim.

Worked on Mrs. Skinkler’s skirts and Susie Brummett’s sweater. Linda & Mark came around 11 a.m. and he stayed with me while Linda bought groceries. She brought 2 lunches and 3 cokes from the Red Barn.

Thanksgiving Day. Replaced zipper in slacks for Betty Patton. L&J&M came around noon and Linda helped me prepare dressing. They left and then Jerry came at 3:30 p.m. to get me, we stopped at 25 Dawn Dr. for Linda & Mark (latter just finished nap), and went on to Bartlett’s for 4 p.m. dinner. Had a good time and meal was delicious. Linda furnished Coca-Cola Salad. Kay & Tom were there. Carol originally planned dinner at their home but cancelled due to illness. Don & Joyce were with his folks. Rode in new Olds for first time. It’s a wonderful car. Home around 10:30 p.m.

Altered Betty Patton’s coat and started working on Mrs. Southard’s dress. Ordered jumper for Karen and 2 pc. outfit for Christina from Alden’s. Mrs. Skinkler came at 5 p.m. to try on 2 skirts. Betty Patton got her shorts and coat this a.m. Augie cleaned out gutters and raked front yard – 2 hrs. labor @ $1.00 hr. = $2.00. Carole went to church tonight and stayed all night at Orm’s. Dolores had them drop her off at shopping center and came home in cab.

The Neats went to Sweetwater in a.m., returned at 2 p.m. and then went to church in evening. Mrs. Sutherland got her dress and skirts at 4 p.m. I started shortening Mary Ellen Jennings’ plaid coat. Phoned Delbert Delong re electric heating unit in my room and Bill is going to check it tomorrow.

Finished shortening M.E. Jennings’ coat and shortened Mrs. Lettarst’s black dress. Bill, Mary Ellen and Christina here in a.m. Bill checked fuses to see if that was what was wrong with electric heater in my room. Linda & Mark came at 1 p.m. with sandwiches and fries from MacDonald’s and one case of Pepsi. I ordered nursery chair from Spiegel’s for Christina. Received pitcher and 2 plastic sheets for windshield from Spencer’s Gift Co. Linda got curtain rods for garage and left her jade green dress for me to add side inserts. Dolores very unreasonable about TV tonight.

Shortened Mrs. Lettarst’s dresses. Florence Trede and Mrs. McLean and 2 grandchildren came in afternoon. Florence left 2 skirts to be altered and Mrs. McLean a coat to be shortened. M.E. Jennings got her coat in a.m. Mary Ellen, Bill and Christina here in their new Ford Galaxy car this a.m. Bressmer’s delivered Linda’s houseslippers, 9AA, and took back those in size 9B. Linda & Mark drove by while Florence was here but didn’t come in when she saw her car. Dolores was quite “impossible” re dog tonight.

Worked on Mrs. Skinkler’s skirts. Lorene and Hilma Spilker here at 11 a.m. re latter coming here to work. Dolores was asked to move tomorrow. I phoned Lorene and she phoned Linda & Jerry and they came about 8:30 p.m. Bob Granda came and Dolores and Carole left with him and I went to Jerry & Linda’s to stay overnight.

Linda and Jerry brought me home at 10 a.m. and Linda & Mark took Jerry to office in Chevrolet as Olds in Peoria for 1,000 mile checkup. Lorene came around noon with food for lunch and supper. She and Linda packed some of Neat’s things, laundered bedding and made bed up in front bedroom. Lorene got mattress cover and pillow covers for me at Goldblatt’s ($6.10). Finished shortening Mrs. Lettarst’s dresses and she got them at 5 p.m. Buzz here this aft. Lorene stayed all night with me.

Lorene straightened and cleaned part of the house today. She got more boxes at Goldblatt’s to pack more of Neat’s things. She left at 2 p.m. and Linda & Mark came as Jerry had to go out of town. Mary Ellen and Bill took Linda to Myers Bros. for a perm – they took care of Mark, then brought them back here. Linda ordered dinners from Chicken Delight. I finished Susie Brummett’s sweater and Jane got it in aft. Also worked on Mrs. Skinkler’s skirts. Ordered another pair of drapery liners for front bedroom window. Stayed all night at Jerry and Linda’s.

Linda took Jerry to bus station and he went to Peoria to get car. I stayed with Mark while she was gone. M.E., Bill and Christina came at 9:30 a.m. and brought me home in their new car. It’s very nice! Linda followed in Chevy. Three men came at 11:30 a.m. to get Neat’s furniture and dog – everything but their car. I stayed all night at Bartlett’s again. Jerry worked at office until 1 p.m.

Linda, Jerry & Mark went to Sunday School and took me home around 3 p.m. I worked on Mrs. Skinkler’s skirts. Lorene and Hilma came at 5:30 p.m. Lorene fixed supper and then went home. First night with Hilma and everything went fine.

Linda & Mark came at 11 a.m. and took Hilma to shopping center for groceries, lamp shade, and 3-way bulb. Linda and Mark left later to pick up my packages at Alden’s, Spiegel’s and Sears, then went straight home. Pat brought floor lamp this a.m. I ordered cover for down-filled comforter from Sears. Lorene came this aft. with 2 knives, bucket and dishpan from Ace Hardware and a blanket she’s loaning us. Finished Mrs. Skinkler’s skirts.

Doughertys came this morning to hang curtains in garage but needed a masonry drill; but he did fix knob on kitchen closet door. Worked on Norma’s suit. Buzz here and left license application for Jerry to notarize. M.E. and Bill took it to Linda’s on way home.

Worked on Norma’s suit. Linda &Mark came at 1 p.m. and she left him here while she went to doctor for checkup. Mr. Anderson put up rods and hung curtains in garage for $2.25. I ordered Jean Nate cosmetics for Lorene’s Christmas gift. She came while Linda was here and brought can opener and towel rack; also step stool for Mark for Christmas. Mrs. Vogt came for her dresses and Mr. Skinkler brought his wife’s skirts back as too short. Received Civil Rights card from George Bonn.

Finished Norma’s suit. Linda and Mark brought some groceries, adhesive tape, Rolaids and gauze bandages around 1 p.m. She also left license application for Buzz. Bernice and Malford Hanson here around 5 p.m. with cookies and fruit cake. Man took Neat car away. Lorene and Norma here tonight to get her suit. Lorene brought mixer blades ($2.86). Buzz came around 10 p.m. for license application.

Hilma went to church at 8:30 by cab. Geraldine Spaulding brought ½ bushel of apples in a.m. Murray and Leora Johnson came in afternoon. I ironed 5 dresses and started shortening Mrs. McLean’s coat. Ann came in aft. to borrow my skirt marker.

Finished shortening Mrs. McLean’s coat and Florence Trede’s plaid skirt. Ann returned my skirt marker in aft. Linda & Mark came at 11 a.m. and Hilma went to shopping center with them. I restitched her corduroy slacks and she left Mark’s coat to be shortened. They were here for lunch and left just before Buzz arrived. Linda got me a Christmas tree at Goldblatts, $4.00.

Altered Florence Trede’s grey skirt. I addressed all out-of-town cards and a few local ones. Linda went to Ramada Inn with bunco club for dinner. Jerry stopped in before she got here with Mark. He & Mark stayed a little while after she left.

Shortened Jane Brummett’s plaid skirt and started shortening M.E. Jennings’ coat. Linda & Mark came at 11 a.m. to make caramels. Mrs. Walover and Mrs. Dorothy Smith brought bowl of fruit from Circle 8. Florence Trede and Mrs. McLean got their things at 1 p.m. Jabush girl brought coat to be shortened tonight. Berdine Yocom came middle aft. – had Maureen’s wedding pictures. Received package from Wes & Alice. Lorene brought gifts and took ours for her.

Finished shortening Jabusch girl’s coat and Hilma & I wrapped caramels. Linda & Mark came at 11 a.m. and set up and trimmed Christmas tree. M.E. and Bill came earlier with curtain liner and comforter cover from Sears and Mary Ellen shampooed and set my hair. Linda brought 75 four-cent stamps and mailed more cards for me.

Finished M.E. Jennings’ coat and started altering Linda King’s black skirt. Linda & Mark came at 10:30 – brought vacuum cleaner and cleaned furnace filter, then they took Hilma to shopping center for groceries, Christmas tree light bulbs, icicles, and black thread. They had lunch here then went home.

Altered Mrs. Rice’s blue skirt. Marie Spaulding came for her dress on way home from work. She brought ½ gal. cider. Linda King got her skirts and jacket. Willene phoned Linda this aft. and Linda told her that she was pregnant. Willene said yesterday was her due date but nothing has happened yet.

Pat came this a.m. with their gifts for me and I gave him Lois’ (his is at Linda’s) and those for Caryl & Jim & family. I worked on Mrs. Rice’s things. Linda & Mark came around noon with groceries I ordered. Ann came this afternoon to get box of cookies and candy that Hilma and I fixed for her.

Hilma left at 8:45 a.m. for church. She’s having dinner with Lydia. Linda, Jerry & Mark came at 11 a.m. and took me to their home for gift exchange and lunch. We left at 2:30 for Dougherty’s. I helped with dressing, gravy, apple salad and sweet potatoes. Bill’s mother and father were there, too. I got home at 9 p.m. Hilma got here a minute later. I received popcorn popper, oxfords, and planter filled with artificial plants from Linda & Jerry; tape measure, skirt marker and cuticle scissors from Mark; dress, M.E. & Bill; picture, Christina; lazy susan and throw rug, Jim & Caryl; plaques, the boys; handkerchiefs, Karen; pillow and letter opener, Pat & Lois; $5.00, book and scarf, Lorene; 1lb. Fanny Mae candy, Hilma; box of dusting powder, Wes & Alice.

Worked on Aletha’s pink wool dress. Linda & Mark came about 10:30 a.m. Buzz came at 10 a.m. Linda and Mark took Hilma downtown to doctor. They brought hamburgers & french fries home. Linda & Mark took down Christmas tree. Margie McCann phoned – appt. 7 p.m., Jan. 3rd, 1966. Linda had Penney’s account straightened out. She picked up lining for Aletha’s jacket and snaps for Donna Claypoole’s coat at Bressmer’s; also exchanged bath powder for Estee Lauder spray powder. Hilma came home on bus.

65 degrees today – highest in 29 years. Worked on Aletha’s pink dress. Mark & Linda came at 10:30 from town. She got a card table from Bressmer’s to replace one Mother gave me that Jerry discarded accidentally. Phoned Tom Hughes – baby named Lawrence William. They’re coming home tomorrow.
