Sunday, January 1, 1967

Hilma went to 10:30 a.m. church service with Louise Krueger.  We had baked ham, baked potatoes, hot rolls, cinnamon apples, green beans, and date nut bread for dinner.  Wrote letters to Aunt Georgia, Cousin Nell, and Charlotte Hennessey, enclosing Christmas picture of Jill & Mark.  I sent two other pictures to Cousin Nell.

Monday, January 2, 1967

Wrote letter to Anita, stitched facings in dress Pat & Lois gave me, and laundered and pressed pink and white checked gingham dress that was Aunt Helen’s.  I may make little dresses from it.  Watched Florida Orange Bowl Parade and Pasadena Rose Tournament Parade.  Ronda got her skirt, and Bob & Bobbi Kay Chilton came for his pants tonight.

Tuesday, January 3, 1967

Linda, Mark and Jill came at 12:40 p.m. and had lunch here.  Linda and Mark took down Christmas tree and removed lights from shrubs in front of house.  They went to American Savings & Loan to withdraw my savings.  I ordered a blue & white stretch set from Spiegel’s for Jill.  Received Alden’s spring-summer catalog.  Mr. Denby from the bank came for my check for mortgage investment agency.  Linda went to bunco party at Marilyn’s – didn’t win.

Wednesday, January 4, 1967

Mrs. Parsons brought clothes to be altered at 10 a.m.  I worked on them today.  Mailman took letter I wrote to Norine yesterday enclosing Christmas picture of Jill & Mark.  Phoned Frances Jordan.  Chiltons left at noon today [for Arizona] – stayed last night at local motel and finished packing this morning.

Thursday, January 5, 1967

Worked on Mrs. Parsons’ clothes.  Linda took Jill to see Dr. Nolan at 1:30 p.m.  She has an ear infection.  Tom Gilroy died at 5 a.m. in hospital in Chicago.

Friday, January 6, 1967

Linda and children came at 11:30 a.m.  Hilma left shortly thereafter to catch downtown bus.  I kept Jill while Linda and Mark went to Sears, Kroger’s, and Gundy’s.  They stopped at MacDonald’s for hamburgers and french fries which we ate here.  They went back to Sears for her general spring-summer catalog, and to Kroger’s to get $1.00 refund with coupon she forgot first trip.  Hilma got back a little before they did.  Received Spiegel’s spring-summer catalog.  She got Mark a size 6X sweater in exchange for size 6.

Worked on Mrs. Parsons’ clothes.  Phoned Lois re exchanging mold – she said it was purchased at Bressmer’s.

Hilma went to 10:30 church service with Louise.  Warren phoned in afternoon that Tom Gilroy died 5 a.m., January 5th.  I worked on Mrs. Parson’s clothes.  Chiltons arrived in Phoenix, Arizona at 7 p.m.

Monday, January 9, 1967

Worked on Mrs. Parsons’ clothes.  Linda and children came at 11:30 a.m.  We had lunch, then she and Mark went to M-W to return her tablecloth (Mrs. B. gave her for Christmas) as too small.  Exchanged mold at Bressmer’s for Pyrex measuring cup and a smaller mold.  They gave the balance in cash.  She got Jill’s stretch set at Spiegel’s.  Phyllis brought a sweater for zipper replacement.

Tuesday, January 10, 1967

Finished Parsons’ clothes and inserted zipper in Phyllis’ sweater.  Warren, Virginia, Lynn, Jessica and David came at 11:45 a.m. and stayed about an hour.  Hilma gave them caramels and peanut brittle.  Tom was buried at 1 p.m. in Roselawn.  Mrs. Parsons came for her things, Nancy North brought a skirt for zipper replacement, and Kay Nichols brought several things to be altered.  Frances and Donna came, too.  Marian Jamison phoned at Marian Gilroy’s request.

Wrote letter to Marian Gilroy.  Hilma went to T&C Shopping Center at 2:45 p.m. and got back about 4 p.m.  Worked on Kay’s skirt alterations.  Linda said Mrs. Mills is expecting a baby in September.  Lorene phoned.

Thursday, January 12, 1967

Linda and children came at 11 a.m.  She and Mark went to Gundy’s, National, and Sears and then back here for lunch.  I replaced broken zipper in Kay’s slacks and sewed fur collar on her red coat.  Received letter from Warren Sperry with newspaper clipping re Olwen.  Nancy North came for her skirt tonight.

Friday, January 13, 1967

Answered Warren Sperry’s letter.  Linda and children came at 10:50 a.m.  The children stayed here while she went for hair appointment.  She also picked up M-W package containing 2 pr. p.j.’s and 2 pr. panties for Jill.  The free “Cookie and Candy Book” came from Sangamon Home Savings & Loan.  Linda took it home.   Frances Jordan came from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m.  Susan Brummett brought some things to be altered tonight.

Received Penney’s spring-summer catalog.  Finished altering Susan Brummett’s jumper and started shortening her 2 skirts.  Received letter from Alice with check for their part on McKinnie flowers.

Sunday, January 15, 1967

Hilma went to 10:30 a.m. church service with Louise.  Lorene came at 11 a.m. with 6 loaves of bread.  Hilma came at 11:40 and Mary Ellen, Bill and Christy at 12:20 p.m.  We had boiled beef, dumplings, green beans, boiled beans with ham, jello salad, rolls, chocolate pie, and coffee.  M.E. gave me a permanent.  I gave her the beads and earrings that Lorene gave me for Christmas as the necklace is too tight.  Jane Brummett brought a duster to be mended.  M.E. and Bill took Hilma to Emma Haseley’s for a turkey dinner at 4 p.m.  Hughes Jr. & Sr. called on me.  Served peanut brittle and caramels and gave them some to take home.  I worked on Susan Brummett’s plaid skirt.  Hilma got home at 10:40 p.m.

Monday, January 16, 1967

Received letter from Carol Pickering with pictures.  Finished Susan Brummett’s two skirts.  Gave Ann VonBehren 2 loaves of bread and Judy Jagow one of those Lorene brought yesterday.  Mary Jean Long phoned re formal coat she wants me to make.  Kay Nichols came for her clothes tonight.  Olga Bentler got Phyllis’ sweater late afternoon.  Started dieting today again.

Tuesday, January 17, 1967

Started mending Jane Brummett’s duster.  Hilma had dinner at “The Mill” with Helen Morse and her two sisters tonight.  Linda went to bunco party at Beverly’s.  Susan Brummett got her things this evening.

Finished Jane Brummett’s duster mending.  Buzz came at 1:45 p.m. but didn’t stay long.  Linda couldn’t start Chevy – gears locked and stiff from below zero weather.

Thursday, January 19, 1967

Linda and children came at 10:30 a.m.  She and Mark left Jill here while getting groceries.  They brought hamburgers and french fries from MacDonald’s (one for 18 cents and two for 18 cents with coupon).  Jenny Rodems brought 2 coats to be altered and I started on all-season coat.

Friday, January 20, 1967

M.E. and Christy came at 9 a.m.  Linda and children came at 10:30 a.m.  She left them here while she went for hair appointment and got my CD’s from Bank of Springfield and Town & Country Bank from safety deposit box at Marine Bank.  I phoned Roselawn re duplicate cemetery deed and they will have one ready in 2 weeks for $10.  Sharlene Robinson brought 5 skirts to be altered this aft.  Jerry, Linda and children here for dinner tonight – roast beef with onions, carrots, celery and potatoes baked together, gravy, scalloped limas, whole kernel corn, cinnamon candy jello with cream cheese, rolls, and iced tea (chocolate pie and coffee later).  He showed movies.

Edith Nelson brought back coat hangers and drapery hooks in a.m.  Susan Brummett came for Jane’s duster and left her father’s pants for pocket replacement.  Worked on S. Robinson’s skirts.  Arlowyn Maddox’s son married this afternoon.

Sunday, January 22, 1967

Hilma went to 10:30 church service with Louise.  Edith Nelson brought man’s sport jacket to be made over for her.  I wrote letter to Carol Pickering enclosing picture of Christy, one to Warren with her pictures, and one to Alice.  Lorene came tonight with food for our supper at 6 p.m. and left at 8 p.m.  Started altering Jenny Rodems’ coat and finished hem in S. Robinson’s skirt.

Monday, January 23, 1967

Linda and children came at 11 a.m. but didn’t stay.  Mark got a haircut and Linda got some groceries for me.  Worked on Sharlene’s skirts and Jenny’s coat.  Thread, hooks & eyes, and tape that I ordered came from Bressmer’s.

Tuesday, January 24, 1967

Hilma went to town at 9:30 a.m. and came back at noon.  I finished S. Robinson’s gold skirt, worked on the green one, and replaced worn out pockets in pants for Mr. Brummett.  Susan picked them up this evening.  Thunderstorm tonight – damaging winds.

Wednesday, January 25, 1967

Linda and children came at 10:30 a.m.  Hilma took care of Jill while Linda, Mark and I went to T&C Bank and Bank of Springfield for CD refunds, then to Illinois National Bank to invest premium checks and Sangamon Home Savings to deposit interest checks.  We had lunch at “Steak ‘n Shake”.  Linda got Jill 3 pr. waterproof panties at Sears.  We got duplicate deed for Roselawn plot.  Then we went to Baker’s Hardware for screw & nuts for wheelchair brakes.  Finished Sharlene’s skirts.  Received Sears summer catalog.

Thursday, January 26, 1967

Nancy Scaife brought dress and skirt to be shortened at 11:15 a.m.  A large limb from soft maple tree fell against front of house and Elmer Jagow removed it this afternoon.  I worked on Jenny Rodems’ coat.  Jerry went to Chicago this a.m. and had to stay overnight on account of snow and ice.

Friday, January 27, 1967

Linda and children came around noon.  She brought chop suey for our lunch.  Hilma made chocolate sundae cookies.  Linda got groceries at National then went to have her hair done.  I worked on Jenny Rodems’ coat.  Susan Brummett brought slacks to be altered tonight.  I phoned insurance company re damaged gutter.  Jerry is still snowed under in Chicago.

Saturday, January 28, 1967

Finished Jenny Rodems’ coat and started on raincoat.  Ann here a little while this aft. and I gave her some magazines.  Mr. Maddox cleaned snow off driveway and walk with snow plow.  I phoned his wife to offer thanks.  Jerry got home at 5:45 p.m.  M.E. and Christy there for dinner tonight.

Hilma went to 10:30 a.m. church service with Louise.  Sharlene Robinson came at 12:30 p.m. for her skirts, tried on three partly altered, and left pellon.  Hilma treated Lydia and Emma to dinner at “Robin Hood”.  They came back here and I played canasta with them.  Worked on Jenny Rodems’ raincoat.

Finished Jenny’s raincoat.  Ann brought cap for Mark and borrowed my skirt marker tonight.  Received letter from Marian Gilroy.

Tuesday, January 31, 1967

Worked on Susan Brummett’s slacks and pressed Jenny’s two coats.  Linda and children came at 12:25 p.m. and had lunch here.  They left at 3 p.m.  Emma Kreider brought dress to be shortened and another to be altered.  Ordered suit for Mark’s birthday from Spiegel’s.  Lorene stopped here long enough this aft. to give us a 6" Pyrex pie plate.  Linda won door prize (album) at Clara’s bunco party tonight.

Wednesday, February 1, 1967

Finished Susan Brummett’s slacks.  Buzz came at 10:15 a.m.  Hilma went to town shortly thereafter.  I ordered diuretic pills from Marriott’s for him.  Hilma got back at 12:15 p.m. and Buzz left a little later.  He came back at 4:50 p.m. for pills and brought 12 golden delicious apples.  Started altering Edith Nelson’s jacket.

Worked on Edith Nelson’s jacket.  She came for a fitting tonight.  Mary Taylor phoned.   I received M-W spring-summer catalog.

Finished Edith Nelson’s jacket and worked on Sharlene’s skirt alterations.  Linda and children came at 10:45 a.m.  She and Mark went for groceries and came back here for lunch.  Edith picked up her jacket this evening.

Saturday, February 4, 1967

Worked on Sharlene Robinson’s skirts.  Roy Beeler and son-in-law removed large limb from front yard and piled it on those from their yard in the alley.  Andy Anderson trimmed sycamore, cut broken limb from Chinese elm in front, gathered all broken branches, old wooden chairs, and metal chair and hauled all away, also swept roof to remove branches and twigs for $5.00.  Mrs. Ross brought skirt to be shortened and Mrs. Adams a coat to be shortened this afternoon.  Mr. Nelson paid for his wife’s jacket.

Hilma went to 10:30 church service with Louise.  Jane Brummett brought coat to be shortened at noon.  I started shortening Nancy Scaife’s dress and skirt.

Finished Sharlene’s skirts and Nancy Scaife’s dress and skirt.  Started shortening Mrs. Adams’ coat.  Nancy got her dress and skirt and left 4 more skirts to be shortened tonight.  Lorene brought some clothes to Hilma late afternoon.  Spiegel’s phoned that Mark’s suit is in town.  Received letter from Carol Pickering, returning Christy’s picture.  Sent birthday card to Pat (Lorene mailed it).

Shortened Mrs. Adams’ coat.  Linda left Jill here while she took Mark to Columbia Studio for 11 a.m. appointment for his 4-yr. photograph.  They came back at 1 p.m. but didn’t stay for lunch as Jerry is home.  He went down to Matthiesen’s to meet a new court reporter from Oklahoma.  Linda got Mark’s suit at Spiegel’s for Easter.  Ordered 2 boxes of stationery like Linda got from Myers Bros.

Altered Mrs. Ross’ skirt and started shortening Jane Brummett’s coat.  Buzz brought a peck of winesap and golden delicious apples for $1.25 this aft.  Stationery came from Myers Bros.  around noon and I gave one box to Hilma.  She went to Ash Wednesday service at Our Saviour Church tonight with Louise.

Hilma went to T&C Shopping Center at 10:05 and came back at noon.  Elmer and Judy took her there and she took the bus home.  Sharlene Robinson came for her skirts this aft.  Mr. and Mrs. Adams came in aft. for her coat and left his to be shortened.  Susan Brummett came for her mother’s coat this eve.  Hilma brought me a pint of strawberries for my Valentine gift – made shortcake for dinner tonight.

Linda and children came at 10:30 a.m.   I went with Linda and Mark to Gundy’s, State Street Market, Ace Hardware, and Eisner’s, and then to Linda’s house to leave her groceries.  We had fish sandwiches, french fries and Cokes at MacDonald’s.  Took a sandwich and fries to Hilma.  We kept Mark & Jill while Linda had hair appointment.  Finished shortening Nancy Scaife’s grey and brown skirts.

Shortened Nancy Scaife’s blue skirt and worked on the green one.  Mrs. Rose got her skirt this aft.  Edith Nelson brought her brown jacket back to have sleeves shortened.  Linda and Jerry went to Chatham bowling alley tonight with Sunday School class and left Mark and Jill here.

Hilma went to 11:15 a.m. service at Trinity with Louise.  Shortened Nancy Scaife’s green skirt and started shortening Mr. Adams’ topcoat.  M.E., Bill & Christy stopped by after Sunday School  -- Mary Ellen took Christy for first time.  Lorene and Margaret Baker came for dinner tonight.  Lorene brought 3 pkgs. barbeque buns and one of wiener rolls.  M.E. left Christy’s curtains for me to shorten.

Worked on Mr. Adams’ coat and Christy’s curtains.  Bill dropped off Mary Ellen and Christy and she shampooed and set my hair.  He came back at 11:30 and Hilma gave each of them a piece of pumpkin pie – I gave them a pkg. of barbeque buns.

Hilma went to town at 9:25 a.m.  Linda and children came at 11 a.m. and we went to “Icy Root Beer” at Rutledge and North Grand Ave. for lunch.  We stopped at Sears to get 2 shirts and 2 pr. pants – I’m giving Mark one of each for his birthday.  We picked up Jerry’s suit at Paris Cleaners and got my check cashed at T&C Bank.  Linda left children here tonight while playing bunco at Paige’s.  Clara went with her.  Ordered game from Drake’s.  Worked on Mr. Adams’ coat.

Linda and children came at 11 a.m.  Hilma took care of Jill while I went with Linda and Mark to Capital City Shopping Center where Linda got a fire engine for 2 ½ books of Top Trading Stamps for Mark’s birthday, then we got 4 sandwiches at MacDonald’s for price of 2 plus 2 coupons, also french fries and Cokes.  We brought one of the hamburgers to Hilma and some french fries.  I ordered a jacket from M-W for Linda, a pair of slacks for her, and coat & bonnet for Jill from Spiegel’s.  Finished Mr. Adams’ coat and started Emma’s things.  Hilma went to Trinity Church tonight.

Shortened Emma Kreider’s grey print dress and worked on blue print dress alterations.  Linda and children came at 11 a.m.  Jill stayed here while Linda and Mark went to Alden’s, Columbia Studio for Mark’s proofs, and National.  They came back here for lunch.  Nancy Scaife got her skirts at 11 a.m. and Mr. Adams got his coat at 2 p.m.  Ronda Bentler paid garage rent from February 9th to April 8th.

Cut out rest of Emma Kreider’s blue print skirt and basted it for fitting.  Linda and children came at 1:30 p.m.  She and Mark had dessert here and then she went for hair appointment.  Emma came for fitting and took grey print dress.  Linda got coat at M-W and slacks and Jill’s coat at Spiegel’s.  I re-ordered 36 mos. coat from Spiegel’s.  Worked on Judy Sears’ [Lorene’s daughter] skirt tonight.

Finished Emma Kreider’s dress alterations and started shortening sleeves in Edith Nelson’s jacket.

Sunday, February 19, 1967

Hilma went to 8 a.m. church service with Louise.  I worked on Judy Sears’ skirt and coat alterations and finished shortening Edith Nelson’s jacket sleeves.  Bill brought Mary Ellen and Christy here, then he went to friend’s house to play basketball.  She took the curtains home I shortened.  Edith Nelson came for her jacket tonight.  Linda, Jerry and children called on the Reynolds family this aft.

Hilma took 9:25 a.m. bus to T&C Shopping Center and got back at 12:10 p.m.  She got 2 batteries, 2 lb. cottage cheese, and carrots, for which I paid.  Edith and Edward Nelson phoned Hilma re Florence Bailey who worked for them today.  I finished Judy Sears’ coat.

I started working on income tax return.  Lorene brought 5 loaves of bread and 2 of rolls this aft.  Mary Ellen wants one loaf, Ann took 2 loaves and 1 wiener rolls; we are keeping loaf of rye and Judy Jagow wants 1 loaf and 1 ea. of hamburger and wiener rolls.  Emma Kreider got her dress this aft.  Lorene took Judy’s skirt.  Frances Jordan and Madeline Pettibone here from 7:30 to 9 p.m.  Frances gave me a yearbook for IHN Class and one for Women’s Fellowship.

Wednesday, February 22, 1967

Judy Jagow came for loaf of bread this a.m. – she visited for a little while.  Mary Ellen Jennings brought slacks and skirt to be let out at 5:30 p.m.  Linda took children to doctor today.  Mark weighs 47 lbs. and 44 ½” tall and Jill weighs 25 lbs. 10 ½ oz. and is 31 ½” tall.

Finished Judy’s coat and started shortening Madeline’s.  Linda and children came at 10:30 a.m.  Jill stayed with us while Linda and Mark went shopping, picked up Jill’s pictures at Goldblatt’s, and Mark got haircut.  They had lunch here before they went to shopping center, came back, watched 2 p.m. TV program, and went home.  Magnet board and magnets came from Drake’s.

Worked on Madeline’s coat.  Linda and children came at 11 a.m. and had lunch here.  Linda took Hilma to town to see doctor.  She got Jill’s coat at Spiegel’s (size 36 mos.), got groceries at Eisner’s and brought them here before going to beauty shop for hair appointment.  Hilma took bus home and arrived at 5 p.m.  Linda came soon after and took children home.  George Maurer of American Ambulance Co. came at 9:30 p.m. and refilled lift pump with oil.  Pat came this a.m. to bring birthday gift for Mark and two calendars.  Linda took the calendars home.

Finished Madeline’s coat and worked on Mary Ellen Jennings’ skirt and slacks.  Mrs. Nass answered my ad for used crib in Jerome Bulletin while Lorene was here and she and Hilma went and got it for me.  Certainly is a dandy at $8.00.  Lorene took Judy’s coat home.  Mrs. North brought 2 suits to be altered at 4 p.m.  Mark had a birthday party for children this afternoon.

Hilma went with Louise to church this a.m.  Finished M.E. Jennings’ skirt and slacks.  Jerry came for Hilma and me at 6:30 p.m. and took us to their house for Mark’s birthday party.  Mr. and Mrs. Bartlett, Diane, Mrs. Dodds, Mary Ellen, Bill, Christy, Kay, Tom and Donna were there, too.  I gave him a pr. pants and plaid shirt.  We came home at 11:20.  Pilot light out in furnace and Central Ill. Light Co. man came at 1:30 a.m. and re-lit it.

Linda and children came at 11 a.m.  They’d been to Sears to get children’s picture taken.  Linda went back to Sears to exchange some of Mark’s gifts and got groceries at Kroger’s.  She came back here for lunch.  Man (Mr. Fouts) and woman from Trans Continental Ins. Co. came re buying insurance but I turned them down.  Edith Nelson brought jacket back to be shortened and darts made.  I worked on it tonight.

Finished Edith Nelson’s jacket and mended Ed Nelson’s shorts.  Madeline came for her coat this evening.

Worked on Mrs. North’s suits.  Hilma went to T&C Shopping Center this a.m.  Margaret Baker came at 5:30 p.m. with pictures of Christy, Mark and Jill and 10 additional copies of “Cue” magazine which contains article re dinner I had for her and Lorene.

Finished Mrs. North’s suits which she got tonight.  Linda and children came at 11 a.m.  Jill stayed with Hilma while we went to shoe shop to pick up Mark’s brown suede “Hush Puppies” which were re-stitched, then we got cozy dogs, french fries and Cokes on South 6th St., went to Spiegel’s and Myers Bros. and Sears, and then home.  Mrs. Parsons brought 2 pc. dress to be altered tonight.

Linda and children came at 11 a.m.  Jill stayed with Hilma and me while Linda and Mark went to get groceries and came back here for lunch.  Children stayed here while Linda went for hair appointment.  Worked on Mrs. Parsons’ dress.  Jerry phoned tonight re a loan but I can’t do it.

Finished Mrs. Parsons’ dress.  Linda phoned that Mark has the mumps.  She took him to the doctor this afternoon.  Worked on income tax return tonight.  Lorene phoned re loan this eve. (I called her this morning).  Phoned Tom Varns about gutter repair.

Hilma went to 10:30 a.m. church with Louise.  I worked on my income tax return and mended my pink satin slip.  Lorene, Norma Gurske, Emma Hasely and Lydia Will came for potluck dinner at 2 p.m.

Finished income tax return and Hilma took it and checks for Franklin Life and Guarantee Ins. Co. to mail when she went to town this afternoon.  I cut out Marie Stehman’s apricot dress.  Mark’s “Button Ups” came from Miles Kimball today.

Tuesday, March 7, 1967

Worked on Marie Stehman’s dress and she and Arlowyn came this evening.  Marie tried on dress and Arlowyn left two skirts to be altered.  The Reynolds’ were at Jerry and Linda’s late afternoon to discuss house plans.

Worked on Arlowyn’s 2 skirts.  Ann came this a.m. to get bread.  Hilma went to town to file her income tax return by Mrs. Hoffman.  Linda got my groceries tonight.  She got her material and buttons for her Easter suit.  Mary Ellen and Christy were with her.  Bressmer’s delivered pattern and zipper for Linda’s suit.  Mrs. Parsons came for her dress.

Finished Arlowyn’s blue skirt alterations.  She and Marie came at noon to get Marie’s dress and Arlowyn’s skirt and left material for 2 dresses.  Pat & Lois came later with skirt for Lois and pants for Pat to be altered and mended respectively.  Before they left, Mary Ellen, Bill and Christy came.  She brought her new coat to be shortened; also blue skirt she wore to Calif.  Dick Patton [a neighbor]  fell from a tree and went to hospital in ambulance at 9:30 a.m.  Linda and Jerry went to dinner in Virginia as guests of Judge Mills and wife.

Hilma went to 10:30 a.m. church with Louise.  Warren and Jess came at 9:45 a.m.  He drove down yesterday afternoon in Marian’s car.  They brought Elsie down and will leave this afternoon.  Gave Warren a “Cue” magazine and one for Carol.

Finished Arlowyn’s green skirt, worked on Linda’s dress, Lois’ skirt, and Mary Ellen’s skirt and coat.  Pleasant Nursery sent two men to trim globular evergreens at front door this a.m.  Mrs. Ross brought Mrs. Maginn’s blouse for sleeve shortening and Arlowyn brought interfacing and took her skirt.

Shortened Mary Ellen’s skirt and coat.  Caryl and children were here for dinner tonight.  Jim didn’t come as too tired.  We had turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, dressing, carrots & peas, green beans, orange-pineapple-carrot salad, sweet & dill pickles, radishes, olives, celery, cranberry sauce, rolls, preserves, butter, oatmeal cake and coffee.

Finished Linda’s skirt and worked on jacket.  She and children came at 10:45 a.m.  She left them here and went shopping, then came back at 1:15 p.m. for lunch.  Mary Ellen and Christy came tonight to get her coat and skirt.  She popped corn and when Hilma came home from church, Hilma made coffee to go with the oatmeal cake.  Ordered outfit for Jill from Penney’s (jacket, pants and bonnet).

Worked on Linda’s jacket.  She and children came at 11 a.m. and Hilma and I went with them to town where she returned dishes to Penney’s, then to Thrifty’s where she bought 4 sections ($1.00) of fencing for me and then on to MacDonald’s for hamburgers (18 cents plus 1 cent for second one), french fries and Cokes.  We got DQ’s also (one at regular price and 2nd for 1 cent).

Worked on Linda’s jacket.  She and children came at 10:15 a.m.   She and Hilma went to National, Walgreen’s, and then to the Red Barn to get fried chicken and french fries.  They paid for two and got two free.  They came back here for lunch, then Linda went to hair appointment.  She got another white fence for our front yard for 25 cents.  My absentee ballot came today.  Received card with all Sunday School  class members’ signatures from Tuesday meeting.

Cut out Arlowyn’s blue dress and put it together for fitting and worked on Linda’s jacket.  Mary Ellen and Christy came at 4 p.m. to shampoo and set my hair.  I gave her $3.12 for Christy’s Easter hat.  It’s white straw with streamers – darling!!  Linda had Pat and Lois for dinner tonight.

Hilma went to 10:30 a.m. church service with Louise.  I worked on Linda’s jacket and Lois’ red skirt.  Arlowyn came for fitting and took jumper home.  (I replaced zipper in it today, too.)  Linda had the Reynolds’ for dinner, then they went to Virginia to look at lots.

Finished Arlowyn’s dress and Lois’ red skirt.  Rogers TV serviceman replaced one small tube in TV set this a.m.  Charged $5.00 for call and $3.85 for tube.  Jerry, Linda and children came at 7:45 p.m. and took Hilma and me to Brenda’s birthday party in Pawnee.  I gave her a pair of fancy nylon panties.  Joyce served angel food cake with strawberry & whipped cream filling, and iced tea.

Hilma went to shopping center at 9:50 a.m. and came back around noon.  Pat came in aft. to get his pants and Lois’ skirt.  Sharon Greening came later with her brother’s Scout pants to be hemmed and I took her measurements for a suit.  She came back in eve. with another suit for me to measure.  Mary Ellen Jennings notarized and took my absentee ballot tonight.  Shortened Jill’s coat.  Finished Linda’s suit.

Linda and children came at 11:30 a.m. She got Jill white shoes and Mark green and white tennis shoes at Luer’s.  Hilma kept Jill while we went to MacDonald’s for fish sandwiches, hamburger, french fries and Cokes.  Then we went to Penney’s to get Jill’s pink jacket, pants and bonnet.  Linda took her suit and Jill’s coat and bonnet home.  Arlowyn came for her dress tonight.  Hilma and I bought 1 lb. ($1.00) of Pease’s chocolates from Mark Jagow for Scouts.  Mark and Jill gave Hilma and me a decorated chocolate egg for each of us.  Hilma gave Mark a box of chocolate eggs.

Worked on Maginn blouse.  Caryl came at 8:15 a.m. and took commode wheelchair, etc. to Mary Ellen’s house.  Linda and children came at 10:30 a.m. and we went to Penney’s to pick up Jill’s pink bonnet, jacket and pants, then to National, Eisner’s and State Street Market to get her groceries.  We had lunch at the Red Barn and then went to Mary Ellen’s.  Linda stayed until Mary Ellen came home at 4 p.m.  Hilma left about 4:30 to go to Altamont for the weekend with Betty.

Sent Easter cards to K. Gathard, Mark, Jill and Christy.  Shortened Christy’s Easter dress. Bill took her to his folks and they gave her a large filled Easter basket.  He came back at 11:30 a.m. and left Christy here while he went to Jean’s Flower Shop and got a lovely lily plant (7 blooms and buds) from him and rose and fern from Christy.  She and he picked M.E. up at work at 3:30 and shopped for groceries.  Their TV went out last night and M.E. phoned serviceman who will be out tomorrow.  I made a pineapple upside down cake before supper.

I made 3 loaves of bread and 1 pan of pecan rolls and 1 coffee cake.  Linda and Mark stopped in about 11 a.m.  TV serviceman came to service TV set as Linda and Mark were leaving.  Jerry and Mark came this afternoon and helped Bill set up a swing set he purchased from the Chilton’s.  Mary Ellen had her hair fixed at 3 p.m. and I went, too.  We stopped at my house for raisins, brown sugar, mail, jewelry M.E. wants to wear tomorrow, and Desenex spray I’m giving her.  We stopped by Linda’s to get my cake pans and 1 qt. Corning dish.  Received Easter cards from Christy, Mark and Jill, Frances Jordan and Circle #2, Sunday School class, and Katherine Gathard.

Easter.  Bill took Mary Ellen and Christy to Sunday School and brought them home.  Linda and family came a little later.  They all looked so nice in their Easter duds.  Mark, Jill and Christy exchanged gifts.  Bill went over to Linda’s to play cards.  She had Mr. and Mrs. Bartlett, Mrs. Dodds, Kenny and Diane for 2 p.m. dinner.  Jim took my commode wheelchair home at 7 p.m. and M.E. brought me and rest of my gear home at 10 p.m.  Hilma came back at 9:30 p.m.  She brought 2 doz. eggs @ 22 cents doz. and a mallard duck.

Linda and children came at 10:30 a.m. and Linda went to Sears and grocery shopped while children stayed here.  The picture she got of both children from Sears is very good!  Jerry is going to put it on his office desk.  They had lunch here.  TV set just shows black and white picture. Phoned Mr. Rogers and he’s coming tomorrow a.m.  Buzz phoned that Warren and family and Marian were in town Saturday and Sunday.  He, Marge and Minnie drove past Jim’s yesterday aft.

Altered Mrs. North’s black skirt and started altering her white jacket.  Shortened Greening boy’s Scout pants.  Rogers TV serviceman put in another tube in TV for $3.30 (no service charge).  Emma Kreider brought dress to be altered and took material for purse as she’s getting someone else to make it.  I’m glad, as I didn’t relish the job.  Mrs. Ross got Mrs. Maginn’s blouse tonight.

Linda and children came at 11 a.m.  Jill stayed with Hilma while Linda, Mark & I went to Paris Cleaners, shoe repair shop, Lober’s (where Linda got 2 pr. shoes worth $11 for $5), then to MacDonald’s for lunch.  I finished Emma’s dress, cut out Arlowyn’s, started putting it together, and mended Mrs. Greening’s shirt.  My TV set doesn’t show color again.  Phoned Rogers TV Service.  Burnetts home from vacation.  Jonquils in bloom.

Mr. Rogers came at 9 a.m. to check TV and it was okay when he left and now it’s black and white again this evening.  Linda and children came at 10:30 a.m.  She left Jill here while she and Mark went to National and Eisner’s for groceries.  They were here for lunch, then she went to hair appointment and then stopped at Kroger’s to get a chicken and steak.  Mrs. Hulen stopped by this afternoon re school board issue.

Hilma went to 10:30 church with Louise.  Linda, Jerry and children came at 1:30 for dinner.  We had duck, dressing, gravy, mashed potatoes, Merry Cherry Salad, radishes, olives, celery, carrot sticks, pickles, cranberry sauce, rolls, creamed peas, iced tea, cherry pudding and coffee.  After dinner, we drove to Virginia to see lots, etc.  We got back at 5:50 p.m.  Linda and Jerry are going to a show tonight.  I worked on Arlowyn’s dress.

Linda and children came at 10:30 a.m. and we, including Hilma, went to leave cleaning at Paris Cleaners, Sears where Linda got a set of Melmac dinnerware and some material for a pinafore and panties for Jill.  We had lunch at MacDonald’s.  I worked on Arlowyn’s dress; also re-sewed buttons on Jill’s pink jacket and bow on Linda’s shoes.

Linda and children came at 9:45 a.m.  Children stayed here while Linda got a permanent.  She came back for lunch, then took Mark to town to shop – got lace at Bressmer’s for Jill’s pinafore; also got 2 darling dresses and sunsuit for her from Bressmer’s and latter from Roland’s.  Mary Ellen and Linda went to Lois’ Tupperware party tonight and we took care of Christy, Mark and Jill.  Jerry went to Virginia tonight and bought a lot for $2,000 – 87 ½' x 300'.  Paris Japonica in bloom.

Finished Arlowyn’s dress.  Hilma went to town around 11 a.m. and came home about 4 p.m.  Buzz came at 10:50 a.m. and left about 1 p.m.  He said Anita got married on March 25th.  Arlowyn came for her dress this eve.  Amy and Nancy McCoy came with Nancy’s coat to be shortened.  Lorene came at 8 p.m. to watch Decatur Channel 17 movie – Dean Martin and Susan Hayward in “Ada”.  She left at 10 p.m.  Received first check from Mortgage Investment Agency.

Shortened Nancy McCoy’s coat and cut out Jill’s pinafore and started making it.  Linda and children came at 11 a.m.  Jill stayed with Hilma while we got her bib overalls and T-shirts at Sears and groceries at National.  We got lunch at MacDonald’s and DQ.  We brought a pineapple sundae home for Hilma.  Mr. Maddox cut our grass without charge this aft.  Red bud trees in bloom.

Worked on Jill’s pinafore.  Linda and children came at 10:45 a.m.  Jill stayed with Hilma while we picked up Jerry’s clothes at cleaners, had lunch at Cozy Dog, then got groceries at Eisner’s.  We got Hilma a cherry sundae at DQ.  We also got coffee ($1.09), rain scarf and comb (1 cent) and can of Glade (38 cents) at Walgreen’s.  Gave 50 cents to Mark Jagow for Wieties’ flower collection.  Nancy McCoy got her coat tonight.

Mike Pearce came at 9:45 a.m. and worked in yard approximately 5 hours.  Buzz came at 11 a.m. and brought several fish he caught, and both were here for lunch.  Mary Ellen came for cup of cake flour at 4:30 p.m.  She took Mark’s pants to him on way home.  I shortened 2 pr. for him and worked on Jill’s pinafore.  Hilma went to church with Louise at 6:30 p.m.  Caryl picked up Mike at 7:15 p.m.  I gave him $5.00.

Sent endorsed check to Schmidt Bros., Inc., for gutter repair.  Hilma left at 10:05 a.m. for doctor’s office and came back mid-afternoon.  I lengthened 2 dresses, altered a blouse and shortened a skirt for Mrs. Vogt.  Ann phoned that Eisner’s is going into Gundy’s building.  Dr. Howard told Hilma that he thinks she has the mumps.  I phoned Caryl and we decided to go April 23rd instead of tomorrow as four youngest children haven’t had the mumps.

Linda and children came at 11 a.m.  They and I went to Sears to pick up 3 pieces of material for Jill’s dresses for her birthday.  We drove around lake to see redbud trees and other flowering trees and shrubs, then stopped at Tops Big Boy for lunch.  We picked up ½ gal. fudge ripple ice cream at Walgreen’s and had that and chocolate cookies Hilma made.  Children stayed here while Linda went to Dr. Link at 2 p.m.  Mrs. Vogt got her things and left suit for alterations.  Marie Stehman brought dress material at noon.  Mary Ellen’s pans came and she and Christy came tonight to get them.

Linda and children came at 10:50 a.m.  Jill stayed with Hilma while Linda, Mark and I went to State Street Market, Blalock’s, and Tolly’s; then had lunch at Sandy’s (30 cent fish sandwich and one free with coupon), french fries, and Cokes.  Then to Eisner’s and National.  When we got home, Hilma served angel food cake, ice cream, strawberries, and coffee.  Linda went to Tupperware party at Barb Howard’s tonight.  Children stayed here while Linda had hair appointment this afternoon.

Mary Ellen and Christy came at 9 a.m. and shampooed and set my hair.  Noll Maddox, Jr., cut grass for $2.00.  Jenny Rodems came for her 2 coats and left several things to be altered.  Norma Gurske brought material and patterns for a suit and 4 dresses.  Jerry and Mark came to replace broken doorknob on back door – cost $7.69.  I worked on Christy’s pinafore.

Hilma went to 10:30 a.m. church service with Louise.  I cut out Marie Stehman’s purple linen dress.  Jim came for us at 1:30 and we had a nice time and a delicious dinner.  On our way back home, he took Karen, Mike and Steve to church then stopped at American Ambulance Co. to get pump for lift.  We got home about 6 p.m.  Norma Gurske phoned me to lay aside beige material and she’ll get more material for that pattern (skirt and jacket).

Linda and children came at 10 a.m.  Jill stayed with Hilma and I went with Linda and Mark to M-W’s and Myers Bros.  She got p.j.’s for Mark from M-W.  We stopped at National for groceries and then went home.  Children stayed here while she took her groceries home.  We had fried fish (Buzz’s donation), french fries, slaw, and Hilma and I had Linda’s new pie and Linda & Mark had sponge cake and ice cream.  She had hair appointment at 3 p.m. and children stayed here.  Norma came at 5:15 for fitting and stayed for dinner.

Cut out lining for Mrs. Vogt’s black sweater, sewed it together and started putting it in.  Hilma left at 10:05 a.m. for permanent and came home about 5 p.m.  Mrs. Rice came at 10:45 with dress to be altered.  Received note from Mrs. Edmonds re alterations.  She has no phone and is a semi-invalid, so I don’t think I can do it.

Hilma went to 10:30 church service with Louise.  Jane Brummett brought dress to be shortened in a.m.  Worked on Mrs. Vogt’s sweater.  Linda and Mark came around 12:30 for Hilma and me.  We had a lovely dinner and supper there.  Mr. and Mrs. Bartlett came late afternoon and stayed about an hour.  Jill sat up from lying position on floor for first time.  We came home at 10:15 p.m.

Worked on Norma’s beige jacket and Jill’s green check pinafore.  Linda and children came at 11:30 a.m.  She brought chop suey they had left over from last night and we had that for lunch.  She and Mark went to town – got 1 lb. peanut clusters and 1 lb. bridge mix and we divided it.  We had brown pudding and coffee when they came back.  Linda dug up ground on west side and Hilma planted zinnias and marigolds there and in plot on southeast corner.

Cut out Norma’s green suit,  worked on it and Jill’s green check pinafore.  Linda and children came at 11 a.m., stayed for lunch and dinner.  Hilma made pizza for lunch and baked chicken for dinner.  Linda set out gladiola bulbs and delphinium and burned part of trash in alley.  Hilma planted some more zinnias.  Our phone is out of order and Hilma asked Wilma and Ronda to report it.

Linda and children came at 11:30 a.m.  They stayed here while she shopped at National and Eisner’s.  She brought hamburgers and french fries from MacDonald’s and we had chocolate sundae cookies and ice cream.  She left children here while she had hair fixed.  I worked on Norma’s suit, Jill’s pinafore, and shortened Jane Brummett’s dress.  Mrs. Ross came at 7:40 p.m. with 2 jackets and dress to be altered.

Mother’s Day.  Hilma went to 10:30 a.m. church service.  I ordered shrimp for self and chicken for Hilma from Chicken Delight at noon.  M.E., Bill and Christy came at 11 a.m. and gave me an outdoor thermometer which Bill installed.  Hilma went to supper at church with Louise from 3 to 7 p.m.  Evie and Bill Wells came this aft.; also Jerry, Linda and children.  Children gave me a geranium and J&L an electric clock and box of Fannie May Pixies.  Caryl, Steve & David brought a box of chocolates tonight.

Worked on Jill’s clothes.  Linda and children came this afternoon.  Jerry was home for lunch.  Jill stayed here while Linda took Mark for hair cut, got groceries and 6 tomato plants from Schlosser’s.  Hilma planted them after they left.  Pat & Lois came tonight – gave me a cake plate and cover.  It’s really nice.  I got some 1/4" elastic from Ann late aft. – Timmy brought it over.  Zinnias are up.

Finished, pressed and gift-wrapped 3 outfits I made for Jill’s birthday.  Ann came this afternoon to see them.  I paid her 15 cents for elastic I used and gave balance of elastic back to her.  Jerry and Mark came for Hilma and me at 6:30 p.m. and took us to their home for Jill’s first birthday party.  Frances, Diane, Kenny, Kay, Donna, Grandma Dodds, Mary Ellen, Bill and Christy were there.

Hilma left at 7:40 a.m. for 8 a.m. service at Concordia with Louise.  Then she went to Altamont with Mr. and Mrs. Olson and came back at 9 p.m.  Linda and Mark came for me at 1 p.m. and I spent the afternoon and evening at their home.  I paid for a pizza for supper.  The Reynolds family came at 5 p.m. and stayed about an hour.  Jill’s panties I made are too long in stride so I ripped the hems for elastic, cut off some, and put in new hems.

Finished Norma’s green suit and Jill’s alterations.  Linda and children came around noon.  They stayed with Hilma while we got groceries and hamburgers (2 for 19 cents) at Sandy’s, also 1 pkg. french fries and Cokes.  Stopped at Eisner’s, National, and Walgreen’s for groceries.  We also went to her house to get Jill’s pinafores and dresses to be shortened.  She opened Pat & Lois’ gift – a beautiful little dress.

Finished Norma’s pink skirt.  Linda and children came at 11 a.m.  She left Jill here and she and Mark got groceries, took theirs home, then came back here for lunch.  We had pizza, salad, and coconut torte.  She left children here while she went to hair appointment at 3 p.m.  Received check from Norma for green suit.  Hazel Estill phoned re my making summer dresses, but she wants them immediately, so I referred her to Duffy girl.

Finished Norma’s blue skirt.  Hilma left at 7:35 a.m. with Louise for Altamont.  Ordered water pills from Marriott’s.  Lorene and Norma came at 5 p.m.  Norma had last 3 outfits fitted – took green suit and beige jacket home.  Hilma got home about 6:45 p.m.  She brought 3 doz. eggs @ 19 cents per doz. and a bunch of rhubarb.

Worked on Emma’s dress.  Mary Alice Beeler’s husband cut down limbs from elm tree at alley and hauled them away this aft.  Certainly was nice of him.  Hilma baked a box of cookies and Roy [Beeler] came for them.  Nobel, Jr. cut the grass.  Sent 75 cents to St. Paul, Minn. for Disneyland toys.  Phoned Clifford Search re Wedgewood information for Frances which she phoned to Carol and Bob.  Linda and Jerry went to St. Louis to see a show with Sunday School class. Frances took care of children.  Ann gave me 1 ½ cups milk and I gave Timmy a package of gum.

Finished Emma’s dress and worked on Beard girls’ skirts.  Hilma went to 8 a.m. church service with Louise.  Linda, Jerry and children came at 12:58 p.m. for dinner.  Hilma prepared pork roast, candied sweet potatoes, raspberry jello with apple sauce and cinnamon drops, green bean casserole, light rolls (Nanny Jones’ recipe), iced tea, coffee, and chocolate pie.  Linda brought instant mashed potatoes.  Kay and Donna came for Kay’s dress.  Bartletts left at 4:30 p.m.  They played croquet.

Worked on Beard skirts.  Linda and children came at noon with picnic lunch.  Hilma fixed sandwiches for us and we went out to Lake Springfield but rained out so went to Lincoln Park.  We left there at 2:30 and it was pouring in a few minutes.  It just stopped about when we got home.  Ordered 2 bras from M-W and waterproof sheet from Sears. I wrote letters to Carol (enclosed 3 pictures) and Charles.  Hemmed Mrs. Greening’s dress and mended shorts she brought today.

Noel, Jr. cut grass he missed on Friday and I paid him $2.00 for all.  Two Pleasant Nursery men trimmed shrubs and birch tree and sprayed shrubs and trees.  Linda and children came at 10:30 a.m.  We dropped Hilma and Rita at Dairy Queen then looked for gardening book for Jerry at Coe’s, Shadid’s, and Myers Bros.  She got a French-English dictionary and pr. hose for me to give Lorene and we delivered them to her.  Got lunch at MacDonald’s and Linda got Jerry’s book at Goldblatt’s and a box of Fanny May’s.

Carol, Polly and Penny came at 10:15 a.m. and stayed while Ron had car checked.  Linda and children came at 11.  Ron came back a little after noon and came in for a little visit and then they left at 12:30.  Linda and children here for lunch.  We had baked fish that Buzz gave us.  Johnny McCoy came for slacks this eve.  I ordered 6 shirts for Jim’s boys, Pat, Bill and Jim and an outfit for Karen for Christmas.  Also got knitted shirt and pants for Mark.  Worked on Jenny’s skirt and blue dress.

Worked on Jenny’s dress and skirt.  Hilma went to town at 10:30 a.m. and came home about 3 p.m.

Worked on Jenny’s skirt and belt.  Edith and Harry Willson called on me this aft.  Mary Ellen and Bill came for Hilma and me at 3:45 p.m. and took us to their house for a delicious dinner.  She had a Tupperware party at 7:30 p.m. I ordered a lettuce crisper.  Mary Ellen, Christy and Karen brought us home.  Chiltons arrived in town at 4 p.m.

Linda and children came at 10:15 a.m.  She brought Tupperware game I ordered at her party.  Hilma and I went with them to National, State Street Market, and Tolly’s, then went to her house to leave their groceries, and then on to Barb Howard’s to leave her Tupperware order, then here for lunch.  She had hair appointment at 3 p.m.  Finished Jenny’s suit and blue skirt alterations.

Worked on Jenny Rodems’ red skirt and brown & blue skirt alterations.  Mary Ellen, Christy and Karen came in aft. to bring back cake pans.  I gave her the pink nylon nightgown I got from Carol Chilton.

Hilma took cab to Trinity Lutheran Church 9 a.m. service.  I worked on Jenny Rodems’ alterations.

Nobel, Jr. cut grass in a.m.  Linda and children came at 11:30.  She went to Dr. Shriner at 11:45 re persistent cough.  Children stayed here.  We had pizza, jello salad, and orange-lemon sherbet for lunch.  They stayed for dinner as Jerry was working late on new house.  Linda got 4 chicken dinners at the “Icy Root Beer”, $1.05 ea.  They left at 7:30 p.m.  I worked on Jenny’s clothes.  I phoned Illinois National Bank re partial withdrawal.  Penney’s order is in.

Made terry cloth covers for arms on wheelchair and started adding tuck-in material to waterproof sheet.  Margaret Baker and sister-in-law came this afternoon, and Jerry, Linda and children came this evening to see the “Glads” by flashlight.  Hilma washed picture windows.  Received letter from Cliff Search which I signed and forwarded to Paul Marshall of INB.

Finished drawsheet side extensions.  Hilma met Lydia at T&C Shopping Center.  They had lunch at MacDonald’s and Dairy Queen and Lydia brought her home.  Marie Stehman brought material for dress for herself and one for Arlowyn.  I phoned Mr. Marshall at INB.

Linda and children came at 10:10 a.m.  Hilma kept Jill while Linda, Mark and I went to National, Tolly’s and Eisner’s, then took their groceries home.  We had lunch at MacDonald’s, got ½ gal. ice cream for each, and ½ lb. turtles from Fanny May for Hilma, then home.  Children stayed here while Linda had 3 p.m. hair appointment.  Ann brought us a cucumber and some used dress fasteners.   Restitched Linda’s and Mark’s shorts.

Cut out Arlowyn’s beige dress.  Mary Ellen, Bill and Christy came in a.m.  Hilma and I gave her money for Tupperware we ordered.

Buzz came in a.m.  Hilma went to 10:30 church with Louise.  I went to Virginia, Ill. with Jerry, Linda and children to see their new home.  The shingles are on roof, tub, garage door, and some of the windows have been installed.  It’s very nice!  We stopped at “Custer’s Last Stand” for chocolate frozen custard.  Came home about 6 p.m.  Hilma went to Dickerson’s with Emma Kreider. (Ruth Dickerson died Friday.)

Linda, Jerry and children came at 11:30 a.m.  Children stayed here while Jerry took Linda to Dr. Shriner.  Later they shopped for items for new home.  They came back at 2 p.m.; left after program (“Another World”) was over.  I worked on Arlowyn’s dress.  Ann brought some cucumbers tonight.  Hilma picked 2 tomatoes.

Worked on Arlowyn’s dress.  Mrs. Rice came tonight and left dress to be altered.  Ann brought some cucumbers and a jar and lid for bread & butter pickles.  Elmer Jagow parked his car in our driveway as theirs was blacktopped today.

Worked on Arlowyn’s dress.  She and J. Emil Smith’s daughter came tonight.  Arlowyn’s dress fits okay.  Hilma made two quarts of bread & butter pickles.  Ann brought two more cucumbers this afternoon.  Jill is walking!

Linda and children came at 11:30 a.m.  Jill stayed with Hilma and Linda, Mark and I went grocery shopping and then to their house to leave groceries.  We got back at 1:30 and had lunch.  Linda went to beauty shop at 3 p.m.  My brown wheelchair broke and Jerry fixed it tonight.  Linda and children came, too.  We had ice cream cones.

Finished Arlowyn’s dress and pressed it.  Cut out Marie’s blue wool dress and altered Mrs. Rice’s dress.  Noel Maddox, Sr. cut grass today for son who is in Florida.  Linda, Jerry and children went to Sunday School potluck tonight.

Hilma went to 10:30 church with Louise.  Mary Ellen and Christy came at 3 p.m.  M.E. shampooed and set my hair.  I worked on Marie’s dress.  Mrs. Rice came for her dress this afternoon.

Worked on Marie’s dress.  Linda and children came at 11 a.m.  We had lunch outdoors.  Linda went to Dr. Shriner at 1:30 p.m.  She cancelled my safety deposit box at Springfield Marine Bank and brought contents home.  Ann brought 4 ears corn over this eve.  Singer serviceman cleaned, oiled and greased my machine, $3.75 plus 20 cents.

Worked on Marie’s dress.  Helped make Coca-Cola salad.  We filled a bowl for Wilma MacDonald, Jo Rowe and Merle Perkinton.  Sent letter to Lorene.  Sunday School class here tonight for potluck.  Merle and Jo were co-hostesses.  We served ice cream, angel food cake, coffee, tea and mints – 22 here.  Had to eat indoors as too wet outside.  Esther Search brought a peck of cucumbers.

Linda and children came at 10:35 a.m.  We went to town and I kept Jill while Mark and Linda went to Myers Bros. and K-Mart.  She got a hand mixer at latter for me to give Mary Ellen and Bill for their 4th wedding anniversary; also a jar of strawberry preserves (Kraft) for 50 cents.  We had lunch at MacDonald’s.  Hilma had lunch with Helen Morse.  Esther came for check and brought Wedgewood stock.  Marie Stehman came for fitting in a.m.  S. Greening brought dress to be shortened.

State Fair opens.  Cut out Karen’s dress.  Ann brought 2 tomatoes and green peppers.  Finished Marie’s dress.  She and Arlowyn came at 10:10 a.m. to pick up their dresses.  I finished shortening Sharon Greening’s dress.  She came for it at 2:30 p.m.  I went with Linda and children to get their groceries and we had lunch at A&W on Jefferson.  Robert, Myrtle, Jeanine and Rita Spilker came at 3 p.m.  Hilma went with them to Fair and then to Altamont for 16 days.  Mary Ellen and Bill came to get my stuff.  Linda came later and took me to M.E.’s.

Bill took Mary Ellen and Christy to Sunday School.  I finished Karen’s dress.  They went to Fair in afternoon but didn’t stay as Christy got sick.

Mary Ellen didn’t go to work as Christy is still sick.  She took her to doctor at 3 p.m. and picked up Bill at 3:30.  He brought the car home at noon and she took him back to work.  Lori Maddox brought dress to be shortened and pattern for dress and coat plus material for 2 dresses and coat.  Karen and Caryl came for Karen’s dress at 8:20 a.m.

Mary Ellen went to work today and they left Christy with his folks.  I phoned Esther Search and she wants us to come for dinner on Wednesday, August 23rd.  Bill came home at noon feeling too ill to work.  Linda and children came at 1 p.m. with sandwiches and french fries from A&W and they left for 2 p.m. appointment with doctor for Jill.  She still has some cold.  Mary Ellen, Christy and I went to Maher’s Drug Store, “SuperX”,  out to get some things at my house, Dairy Queen, and back to their house.  Received letter from Lorene and 2 cards from Charlotte Hennessey.

Marie Stehman came this morning and left material and pattern for a dress.  She took Arlowyn’s pattern to get contrast material and findings.  Bill didn’t go to work as still “under the weather.”  Christy stayed home, too.  Linda and children came at 1 p.m.  She had Jill’s winter coat set, 2 dresses, and Mark’s 3 “perma-pressed” shirts and 3 pr. pants.  Mary Ellen took Bill to doctor after work.

Bill home again today.  Marie Stehman came this a.m. with findings for her dress.  I worked on it and she came back tonight for a fitting.  Arlowyn came also and checked material and findings that Bressmer’s sent out today.  Marie brought gray velveteen for belt for dress I’m making.  Sent letter to Lorene.

Mary Ellen went to work but Bill stayed with Christy at his folks.  I worked on Marie’s dress.  Linda and children came at 5:30 p.m. and left my new lipstick and 3 pkgs. gum.  Mary Ellen, Christy and I went out to get my mail, 4 tomatoes from garden, and returned Olga Bentler’s sewing machine.  We stopped at DQ and rode around fairgrounds tonight.

Cut out and worked on Arlowyn’s green print wool dress.  Bill went back to work.  Mary Ellen got 2 lbs. Brach’s mixed candy for me for 33 cents lb. (I paid).  Linda went to Virginia to paint interior of new house.

I’ve done all I can on Arlowyn’s green print dress until it’s fitted.  She’s in Chicago until end of this week.  Mary Ellen, Christy and I went out to my house to get some things and to water plants.  She looked at Goldblatt’s, Woolco, and K-Mart for a coat for Christy.  She didn’t find anything she liked but did find out size needed.

Cut out Arlowyn’s red coat and dress.  Ordered coat with hood from Alden’s for Christy.  Mary Ellen baked brownies after she came home which I took to Search’s tonight.  Jerry, Linda and children came for me at 6:15 and we got there at 6:25.  Had a lovely dinner – t-bone steaks charcoaled outdoors, roasting ears, green beans, hash brown potatoes, sliced tomatoes, cucumbers, harvard beets, and Linda’s jello salad.  Had brownies and ice cream for dessert.

Ironed my dark blue dress and worked on Arlowyn’s coat.  M.E. and I watched two movies on T-V tonight.  Had cherry pudding with vanilla ice cream.

Mary Ellen and Christy didn’t go to Sunday School.  Bill went to his folks to do some more painting.  I baked a chocolate pie.  M.E., Bill and Christy took most of my things home around 7 p.m. and M.E. brought me home at 11 p.m.  Hilma came home about 10:45 p.m.

Linda left children here today.  The Reynolds’ picked her up and went to Virginia to work on house.  Jenny Rodems came at noon to get her clothes and left skirt to be shortened.  Ronda Bentler paid garage rent due August 9th.  Linda came back at 6 p.m. and had dinner here.  We stopped at her house – she changed her clothes and Jill’s and then we went to clubhouse at Wedgewood Terrace for Brian Chilton’s birthday party.

Linda and children came at 10:30.  We went to several places.  Linda ordered carpeting and wallpaper for new home, then had lunch at “Chef Burger.”  We had a coupon for large hamburger.  We came home and Linda fed Jill then she went to National and Herndon’s.  We also picked up dress for Jill at Spiegel’s and 2 outfits for her at Sears.  Arlowyn’s package came from Sears.

Linda and children came at 10:30.  Jill stayed with Hilma while Linda, Mark and I went to Home Builders for carpeting and Springfield Electric for hall light fixture.  We had lunch at DQ.  We came home and watched 2 p.m. program and then they went home.  Edith Nelson brought dress to be mended later.  I worked on Marie’s dress and mended Edith’s.

Worked on Marie’s and Arlowyn’s dresses.  Edith Nelson got her dress at noon.  Sharon Greening brought slacks this aft. for zipper replacement.  Wrote letters to Wes & Alice and Alice Jean.  M.E. and Christy came after work to bring my Desenex that I left at their house on Sunday.  Bill stayed in the car.  We gave them 2 jars of pickles.  Lorene is back from Canada.

Linda and children came at 10:30.  We all went to National and State Street Market, then Linda took her groceries home.  Then we went to Tolly’s and got our lunch at MacDonald’s.  We came home and Linda fed Jill.  She left children here while she went to hair appointment.  Worked on Arlowyn’s red dress and replaced zipper in Sharon Greening’s slacks and finished and pressed Marie’s grey wool dress.

Linda and children came at 10:15 a.m.  She washed and partially dried electric blanket in dryer, then hung it on clothesline.  We all went to town — dropped Hilma off at 6th and Monroe then went to B&M Electric where Linda left my toaster for repair.  She left wallpaper book at Friedman’s.  We had lunch at Steak ‘n Shake, stopped at Sears and Home Builders where Linda ordered something for the house.  She left children here while she went to Dr. Bergmann at 3:30.  Hilma came back at 2 p.m.

Charles Sutton phoned.  Linda and children came at 10 a.m.  Hilma took care of Jill while Linda, Mark and I went to Goldblatt’s, National, Eisner’s, then to 25 Dawn Dr. to leave their groceries, then back to Kroger’s and Tolly’s and got our lunch at MacDonald’s.  Linda had hair appointment at 3 p.m.  Central Illinois Light Co. serviceman relighted gas furnace in a.m.  Carol Butler left 2 dresses to be altered and another to be shortened at 6 p.m. and Sylvia Carr brought some at 6:30.

Jerry and Linda left children here at 8:30 a.m. while they went to St. Louis.  Linda made second and last visit to allergy specialist.  Hilma went to Dr. Olson’s at 2:30.  J&L came back at 6 p.m. and had dinner here.  They furnished the beef roast and ice cream for apple pie Hilma made.  We also had mashed potatoes, gravy, jello fruit salad, baked squash, peas, relish plate, iced tea and coffee.  Finished altering Jill’s play suit (Carter’s).

She shampooed and set my hair – brought sack of apples someone gave Bill where he works (City of Spfld.).  Linda, children, Mrs. Bartlett and Diane drove over to Virginia in aft. to get curtain measurements.

Shortened Carol Butler’s black dress and started altering her red print dress.  Linda and children came at 10:45.  She left children here while she had hair fixed at “Flamingo”.  Came back at 12:30 and we all went to shopping center.  Hilma got out at Dairy Queen and we got lunch at MacDonald’s, took it to Washington Park Lagoon where we had our lunch.  Linda got a few groceries at National, then we came back for 2 p.m. program. Hilma came at 2:10.  M.E. took me to Sunday School class meeting at Eileen Boyle’s tonight.  Had a good time.

Finished altering Carol Butler’s red print dress.  She came for it this aft.  Emma Kreider brought material for a dress at 3:45.  I worked on Arlowyn’s red dress and coat and started replacing zipper in Sylvia Carr’s blue print dress.  Mary Ellen came for her hair dryer after leaving their dog at Coble’s to be spayed.

Finished replacing zipper in Sylvia’s dress, cut out lining for Arlowyn’s coat, and started putting it together.  Linda and children came at 10:30.  We dropped Hilma off at 6th and Monroe, got my toaster ($1.50) at B&M Electric, stopped at Booth & Thomas, then had lunch at “Cozy Dog” and Dairy Queen on South 6th.  Linda got double frame for my pictures of Mark and Jill at Woolco and she looked at curtains at Goldblatt’s.  We came home at 1:30.  Linda and Mark met Hilma in car at bus at 2:05 as it was raining.

Linda and children came at 10:30.  Jill stayed with Hilma while Linda, Mark and I went to National, Woolco (I had 3 pr. scissors sharpened for 89 cents), State St. Market, then to Rutledge and North Grand “Icy Root Beer” for lunch.  We got more groceries at Kroger’s, then Linda got electric fixture at Springfield Electric Co. and “Insinkerator” [garbage disposer] at Booth & Thomas.  We got home at 2:05 p.m.  We also got a watermelon (59 cents) and 5 large cantalopes for $1.00.  Linda and I took ½ each.  She had hair fixed at Sherry’s.  Sylvia Carr got her dress at 5:15.  Mended 2 pr. Linda’s shorts and 1 pair Mark’s pants; also worked on Arlowyn’s coat.

Jerry and Linda left children here at 9:30 a.m. as they wanted to work on house.  I worked on Arlowyn’s coat, mended Linda’s shorts and altered Mrs. Greening’s hat she brought in aft.  Hilma baked cookies and gave plate of them to Ann and Linda.  J&L came back about 8:30 p.m.

Hilma went to church at 10:30, meeting at Presbyterian Home in aft., and potluck in eve. at Our Savior Church with Louise.  Linda and Mark came for me at 12:30 p.m. and took me to their house for dinner, then all of us drove to Virginia to see new house – it’s wonderful!  Barb, Allen and Jimmy Howard and the Chiltons came while we were there – Linda and Jerry washed and waxed all linoleum floors.  We got back to Dawn Dr. at 8 p.m., had supper, and Linda and Mark brought me home at 10:15.

Ronda left garage rent money in mail slot this a.m.  Linda and children came at 11:30.  Jill stayed here while Linda, Mark and I went to Penney’s, K-Mart, Zayre’s, then had lunch at “Cozy Dog”.  Used another coupon for free sandwich and coke.  Lorene came later with some clothes she wants to sell, also others she’s giving.  She took Hilma to Bisch’s to Mrs. Sam’s sister’s funeral.  Linda took me to America Ambulance Co. re bent shaft on back of lift.  Mrs. North and Nancy brought clothes to be altered tonight.

Rodems’ skirt.  Linda left children here at 10 a.m. and went to Virginia to work on house.  Jerry went in his dad’s truck as he had to haul something for the new house.  Arlowyn brought coat back as I wanted to sew label and 2 snaps on it.  She took her dress and left husband’s coat which needed buttonholes reinforced.  M.E. brought slacks and blouse I ordered from Penney’s for Linda’s birthday.  Arlowyn came for coat and dress in evening.

Hilma went to 10:30 church.  Lorene and Katherine Wilson picked me up at 2:30 and we drove to Lincoln to see her brother and wife.  We got back at 6 p.m.  Hilma left at 3:15 with Lydia with whom she had dinner.  She came home at 10 p.m.

Linda and children came at 10:30 a.m.  We stopped at Kresge’s and T&C Bank and Builders Supply Co., then had lunch at “Red Barn.”  Linda returned kitchen curtains at Bressmer’s and went back to Kresge’s and got some there.  They stayed here for dinner and left at 8 p.m.  I worked on Laurie’s dress.  Mrs. Snyder phoned tonight re MS meeting Friday night.

Worked on Laurie’s dress.  Mrs. Vogt brought a blouse and 3 skirts to be altered this aft.  Mr. McDonough phoned this aft. re taking Hilma and me to MS meeting Friday evening.  Linda won first prize (pajamas) at bunco party tonight.

Linda and children came at 11 a.m.  Jill stayed with Hilma and Linda, Mark & I went to Woolco.  Linda exchanged bunco prize (p.j.’s) for coin purse and has $1.50 left.  Then we went to Springfield Electric Co. and had lunch at “Sandy’s” on east side.  I ordered 3 fried chicken dinners from “Chicken Delight” and Linda and children stayed for dinner.  They left at 8 p.m.

Linda and children came at 10:15 a.m.  Jill stayed with Hilma and we went to Goldblatt’s then to “Chef Burger” for lunch.  We got one “king” burger free.  Linda brought ingredients for spaghetti for dinner here tonight and they stayed until 8:30 p.m.  Hilma baked a lemon pie and made a jello salad and tossed salad.  I finished altering Arlowyn’s skirts and started shortening Sylvia’s gold dress.  Got a radio for Hilma.

Carol, Polly and Penny Pickering came at 10 a.m.  Linda and children came at 10:45.  Carol and girls left at noon and Linda, Mark and I had lunch at MacDonald’s.  Linda got groceries at National and Eisner’s.  She got her hair fixed at 3 p.m.  Mr. Massey brought lift from America Ambulance Co. and took my old one, $105 for exchange.  Mr. Stevens took Hilma and me to MS meeting at St. Nick Hotel.  Very interesting meeting.  Cookies and coffee were served.

Finished Sylvia’s dresses.  Hilma went to 10:30 church with Louise.  Mary Ellen and Christy came late aft.  Jerry, Linda, Mark and Jill came before they left.  M.E. checked new lift with car but wheels are too large.  Linda and Jerry brought plastic cups for bedposts to raise it high enough to accommodate lift.  They didn’t tarry as they hadn’t eaten supper.

Linda and children came at 11 a.m.  Jill stayed with Hilma while we had lunch at Cozy Dog, then went to Springfield Electric, Home Builders, Sears, and Goldblatt’s.  We had chocolate cake sundae at Dairy Queen and brought one to Hilma.  They went home at 2:30.  Lorene and Norma came tonight.  Lorene brought a sack of apples.  After they left, Laurie Maddox came for a fitting and she took Arlowyn’s 2 skirts.  Shortened Nancy North’s plaid skirt.

Finished Laurie Maddox’s dress and worked on Nancy North’s navy dress.  Mrs. Revell sent husband’s pants to have zipper replaced.  Mrs. Prevel brought them.  Phoned Pat, and he and Lois are coming tomorrow evening to celebrate Linda’s 25th birthday.

Worked on Mrs. North’s skirt.  Phoned Caryl re Karen staying a weekend last part of this month.  Sylvia Carr got 3 dresses and left skirts, slacks and jacket for alterations.  Pat and Lois came at 7 p.m., and Linda, Jerry & children at 7:30, and M.E. and Christy at 7:45 to celebrate Linda’s birthday.  I gave her an overblouse and slacks; Hilma, 1 lb. Fanny May candy; Jerry, a dress.  Hilma baked a German chocolate cake and served it with vanilla ice cream.

Linda and children came at 10:45 a.m.  We went to Home Builders, then to MacDonald’s for lunch and to Woolco where Linda got a blouse and skirt for me to give M.E. for her birthday, then to National and Goldblatt’s.  We came home at 1 p.m.  Linda and children left at 2:00.  Hilma went to T&C Shopping Center in a.m.  Susie Brummett brought coat for sleeve lengthening and Amy & Nancy McCoy brought some clothes for altering.

Linda and children came at 11 a.m.  Ann brought pkg. frozen fish, one of chicken livers, and some tomatoes.  Linda, children and I went to Sally Ward Cleaners to pick up clothes she had stored there this summer and took them home.  We made several other stops, including National where we got a few groceries.

Linda and children came at 11:15 a.m. but had lunch here due to inclement weather.  Linda got groceries and then came here.  She had hair appointment at 3 p.m.  Emma Kreider came for fitting at 4:10 p.m.  I worked on her dress and on Susie Brummett’s coat.  Mrs. Long came this aft. re alterations on clothes she’s bringing tomorrow.  Ronda Bentler paid garage rent and brought slacks to be shortened.

Linda and Jerry moved to Virginia, Ill. today.  They left Mark and Jill at Mary Ellen’s before breakfast.  She fed them and brought them here at 11:30.  Bill drove and Christy came too.  M.E. and Christy went to beautician’s.  Christy got her hair cut – looks so cute.  They came back at 1:40 p.m. and took Jill and Mark home with them.  Mrs. Long came with dress and suit to be altered.  Jane Brummett got Susie’s 2 coats and brought another to be altered.  Jerry and Linda came at 7:30 p.m.  Will get children at Dougherty’s and go back to Virginia.

Linda and children came at 11:30 a.m.  Pat and Lois came a little later.  Lois brought 5 dresses and 5 skirts.  They left and then Linda, Mark and I went to MacDonald’s for lunch.  Got one free cheeseburger.  Linda picked up clock & sconces at M-W, got Halloween candy, etc. at K-Mart, and a drill for Jerry with trading stamps.  They left about 6 p.m.  Emma got her dress and Susie got her Levi’s.  Received letter from Warren.

Ordered 2 dresses for Christy’s birthday from Penney’s.  Linda and children came at 10:30 a.m.  Jill stayed with Hilma while we went to Sears to get Jill’s dress and other things, then to MacDonald’s for lunch.  We got sundaes, 15 cents each (special) and brought one to Hilma.  Linda and Jill went to doctor at 12:45, then came back here and Jill stayed with Hilma and me while Linda and Mark got groceries.  Hilma left at 5:30 p.m. with Betty for Altamont, then Linda and children left at 5:45.  Jim brought Karen at 10:50 p.m. to stay with me.  Mrs. Long came for her clothes in p.m.

Electricity off at Jim’s so Caryl told Karen to stay here until Hilma came home.  I made her dress which she took home tonight.  Hilma got home at 9 p.m. and Caryl came for Karen at 10 p.m.  Worked on Nancy McCoy’s aqua skirt.  Hilma brought 2 doz. eggs @ 18 cents doz., and carrots and turnips.  Karen made a new kind of oatmeal cookies this evening.  I phoned Bob Bastas about Peggy.

Finished McCoy skirts.  Ann came in a.m. to get suit and blouse that were Lorene’s.  Mary Ellen’s one-week vacation started today.  She and Christy here in p.m.  Started altering Jenny Rodems’ clothes.  Ann brought 4 tomatoes.  Mary Ellen and Christy came in eve.  I gave her my vaporizer.  Shortly after they left, Linda, Jerry and children came.  Hilma served coffee and the oatmeal cookies that Karen made.

Worked on Jenny Rodems’ clothes.  American Ambulance Co. brought old lift back in afternoon which I’ll use until castors for new lift come.  Mary Ellen and Christy came at 3:15 p.m. and took Hilma and me to Virginia.  Their new house is “grand”.  We had dinner there and came back at 11 p.m.  Hilma served “Cheezits” and Coke.  M.E. and Christy left at 11:30 to pick up Bill.  Spiegel’s phoned that Bill’s shirts are in.

Linda and children came at 10:30 a.m.  Jill stayed with Hilma and Linda, Mark and I had lunch at Lacata’s.  She got a camera set at Tru Value Stamp Co.  Mark got a haircut at T&C Shopping Center.  Linda stopped at American Savings & Loan.  We got back at 2 p.m.  Linda and children left at 2:30 as they had doctor appointment.  I got a flu shot at Dr. Shriner’s office ($5.00).  Linda got one, too.  Children got theirs, too, from Dr. Nolan.

Linda and children came at 11 a.m.  Jill stayed with Hilma while Linda, Mark and I had lunch at “Chef Burger”.  We then parked in front of Bressmer’s while Mark and Linda went to Penney’s to get 2 dresses I ordered for Christy’s birthday and curtains for Linda’s kitchen.  We stopped at Home Builders to exchange traverse rods, then went home.  We had chocolate pie.  Then Linda went to National and IGA for groceries.  They left at 5:30.  I worked on Freemuth pants and Ronda’s clothes.

Worked on Ronda’s slacks and Freemuth boys’ pants.  Mary Ellen and Christy came for Hilma and me at 3:30 p.m. for supper at their house.  Mr. and Mrs. Dougherty were there, too.  Later, Pat, Lois, Jerry, Linda and children came to celebrate Christy’s third birthday.  I gave her two dresses.  My bedpan cracked from fall off bed so got a new one at Ideal Drug Co. for $5.55 on way to Mary Ellen’s.  Got home about 11 p.m.

Linda, children and I went to Sears to get Mark 2 pr. pants, Jill 2 angel tops, tights and mittens.  Then we went downtown and Linda and Mark went to Myers Bros. where Linda got a dress for Jill and jacket for me to give Christy for Christmas.  We had lunch at N. Grand Chef Burger.  Children stayed with me while Linda had hair fixed and got pizza at Gabatoni’s.  Norma brought material for two suits this aft.  Jerry got back at 10:30 p.m.

Worked on Lois’ skirts and dresses.  Mr. and Mrs. Olson came at 2:40 p.m. for her coat and dress.  Hilma left on 9:30 a.m. bus to get a permanent – came back at 2:45 p.m.  Sears phoned that my order is in.  Dr. Ranker’s office called – Jerry’s glasses are ready.  Jane Brummett left coat to be shortened at 6 p.m.  Phoned M.E. and asked them for dinner Sunday.    Betty McGowan brought basket of fruit from Women’s Circle this aft.

Finished Lois’ clothes.  Hilma went to 9:30 a.m. church service.  Linda, Jerry and children stopped in for a few minutes after Sunday School.  She brought Jello I paid for Friday but took it home by mistake.  This Friday they are entertaining the Sr. Bartletts for dinner.  M.E., Bill and Christy came at 12:35 p.m. for dinner.  We had roast with onions and carrots, northern beans with ham, mashed potatoes and gravy, cinn. apples, cherry dessert, tea and coffee.  They brought 18 3/4 lb. turkey (27 cents lb.)  and oysters (89 cents) from Castor’s for Thanksgiving.  I paid $6.24.   M.E. washed my hair.

Thanksgiving Day.  Hilma went to Trinity Church in a.m. in cab.  Shortened Mrs. Germann’s coat.  M.E., Bill and Christy came at 3:30 p.m., Pat & Lois at 3:50, Jerry, Linda, Mark and Jill at 3:55, and Jim and family at 4 p.m. for dinner.  I furnished turkey, oyster dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, tea, coffee, preserves and butter.  M.E. brought relishes and whipped cream; Pat & Lois, rolls and Waldorf salad; Jim & Caryl, pumpkin pies, candied sweet potatoes, and cranberry sauce.  Linda, Jerry and children were last to leave at 10 p.m.  They furnished Coca-Cola salad and creamed peas.

Linda and children came at 10:30 a.m.  Jill stayed with Hilma while we got groceries.  We came home at 1 p.m., had lunch, watched 2:00-2:30 TV program, then all went downtown.  Linda dropped Hilma off at Post Office, then she picked up pkgs. at Spiegel’s, shopped at various stores, and got commode at M-W.  We got home at 5:30.  They went to Bartlett’s to leave turkey that she won in freezer, then on to Virginia.  Hilma came home at 6 p.m.  Emma Kreider gave me 1 lb. pecans this morning.

Caryl dropped off Mike at 9:50 a.m. to rake and burn leaves.  He had lunch here and quit at 3:30.  I gave him $5.00.  He met a boy at T&C Shopping Center at 4 p.m.  Carol Chilton came with clothes to be mended, etc.  I cut out Norma Gurske’s suit and started putting it together.  Pat & Lois went to Virginia this aft.  Linda North brought velvet and pattern for bridesmaid’s dress in aft. for December 23rd wedding.

Cut out Norma’s blue suit and started putting it together.  Emma Kreider and Mrs. Roblee came late aft.  Mrs. R. brought gold dress back as she wants sleeves shortened and smaller around forearm.  Phoned Amer. Amb. Co. and George Maurer’s home and was advised that phones have been temporarily disconnected.  Then contacted Nancy Scaife as she knows the Maurers indirectly and she said he’d gone bankrupt and left town two weeks previously.  Phoned Mr. Bill Smith at Mummert’s re wheel exchange.

Phoned Bill Smith at Mummert’s re wheel exchange that George Maurer failed to do on lift.  He said he’d come this afternoon but failed to show up.  Worked on Norma’s suits.  Buzz phoned that Warren called on him Saturday evening.

Worked on Norma’s suits.  Mrs. Germann came in a.m. for her coat.  Linda phoned that she won’t come until Saturday.  I called Mary Ellen to ask her to pick up Linda’s Christmas gift at M-W (bath mat, waste basket and lid cover) and perma-press sheet for Lorene from Penney’s.  Bill Smith from Mummert’s came in p.m. to check lift wheels and he’s ordering four 3" to replace those too large ($12 plus tax).

Altered Mrs. Roblee’s dress.  She came for it tonight.  Worked on Norma’s gold suit and Carol Chilton’s mending.  Marriott’s Drug Store delivered Unicaps, $3.11 plus tax,  and water tablets, $3.00 plus tax $6.42) today.

Linda and children came at 10:30 a.m. after taking them to doctor and Santa Parade – she left them here while shopping then came back at 1:30 p.m. for lunch.  We kept children while she went to hair appointment at 2:15.  She came back at 4:30, got groceries and went home.  Children stayed here.  She and Jerry came back to Springfield for Sunday School class party at Southernaire, they came back at 10:30 p.m. and then went home.  Norma came for fitting in p.m.  Ordered mattress and springs from Stern’s.

Hilma went to 10:30 church service with the Blakely’s.  M.E., Bill and Christy came at 11 a.m. – brought sheet for Lorene and seat cover and wastebasket for Linda – bath mat not available.  I finished Chilton things and worked on Norma’s gold jacket.  Charlotte Jorgensen brought pr. slacks to be altered in p.m.

Linda and children came at 10:30 a.m.  Children stayed here while Linda shopped. She came back at 1 p.m. – brought fish sandwiches and french fries from MacDonald’s for Mark and herself.  She and Mark went shopping and Jill stayed here.  They came back at 5:15 p.m. and had supper.  She furnished sirloin steak and got a diary and Christmas card book for me.  She went to bunco party at Bartlett’s.  We took care of children.  Bob Chilton came for their mending.  I worked on Norma’s gold suit.  Linda & children left at 10:45 p.m.

Linda and children came at 11:25 a.m.  Jill stayed with Hilma while Linda, Mark and I went to Franklin Life (to deliver Norma’s suit, etc.), then Columbia Studios, K-Mart, Bressmer’s, and lunch at “Cozy Dog”, National for groceries and home at 2:20 p.m.  Linda had 3 p.m. hair appointment.  She left children here while she returned to Virginia to get Jerry for party there (courthouse employees).  They came back for children after the party.

Worked on Norma’s blue suit.  Jerry, Linda and children came this afternoon with my Christmas tree, $3.00.  They didn’t stay long.  Nancy McCoy brought white dress to be shortened at wrists and skirt hem.  Hilma made pinwheel cookies and she helped me make a recipe of caramels.  Received letter from Carol Pickering and card & note from Cousin Nell.

Hilma went to 10:30 a.m. church service with Louise Krueger.  I addressed and wrote notes in all out-of-town Christmas cards.  Lorene came out for supper and we exchanged gifts.  She brought some cranberry pudding.  Worked on Norma’s blue suit.  Lorene took my package for Wes & Alice to mail tomorrow (1 pr. pillow cases).  Wrapped all of the caramels.

Received package from Wes & Alice.  Nancy Scaife brought new black dress to be shortened.  Phoned Mrs. Snyder that Linda, Jerry and I are going to dinner at Griffin High School for MS patients and their families.  I mailed out-of-town cards today.  Worked on Norma’s blue suit.

Hilma went to town on 9:30 bus.  Linda and children came at 10:30.  I took care of Jill while she and Mark shopped.  Hilma came back at noon and Linda & Mark at 1:30.  She brought fish sandwiches for her and Mark, also french fries.  She trimmed my Christmas tree and hung wreath on door.  Circle #3 sent a small 1-bloom poinsettia and a candy jar of hard candy by Mrs. ? late afternoon.

Hilma and I cut out Linda North’s green velvet dress.  Ann brought cut-out jumper for me to use as a pattern for Jill’s.  Shortened Nancy Scaife’s dress and started to shorten Nancy McCoy’s.  Hilma went to church with Louise tonight.  Ronda paid garage rent tonight.

Finished shortening Nancy McCoy’s dress hem and sleeves.  Scaife boy picked up his mother’s dress after school.  Finished Norma’s blue suit and shortened Carol Chilton’s white dress and started shortening her coat she brought at 2 p.m.

Linda and children came at 11 a.m.  Linda ran some errands downtown while children stayed in car with me.  We had lunch at MacDonald’s and were home by 12:30 as Linda had hair appointment at 1 p.m.  We stopped at Franklin Life to deliver Norma’s blue suit at 11:50 a.m.  Bob Chilton picked up Carol’s coat and dress at 5:30 p.m.  Linda and children left shortly thereafter.  I addressed all in-town cards tonight.

Linda North and fiancé came at 11:30 a.m. – she had fitting.  Nancy McCoy came for her dress around noon.  She mailed cards for me.  Mary Ellen came for Hilma and me at 4:10 p.m. and took us to their house.  We had spaghetti, tossed salad, hot bread, and mint stick ice cream later.  Hilma and I helped her make caramels.  We got home about 10:30 p.m.

Hilma went to 10:30 church with Louise.  Linda, Jerry and children came around noon and had lunch.  We took children to Bartlett’s, then went to dinner at Griffin High School for MS patients and families.  I won an artificial table tree and Linda a clown made of candy sticks and a book for Mark.  We got home at 6:30.

Worked on Linda North’s dress.  Lorene came this afternoon with 1 lb. peanut brittle, $1.00, aluminum cookie sheet, 54 cents, and shirt she’s making to show us.

Linda and children came at 11 a.m. She got fish sandwiches and french fries and brought them home for our lunch.  She had a 2 p.m. appointment at beauty shop, then went to The Saddle House for dinner with bunco club; came back at 10:45 p.m.  Children stayed here all night but Linda went back to Virginia as hosting open house tomorrow night.

Worked on Linda North’s dress.  Emma Kreider and Ann came for plates of cookies and candy that Hilma fixed this afternoon.  Electric service off 1 hr. 20 minutes tonight.  Jerry and Linda came after children a little after 11 p.m.

Finished Linda North’s dress which she picked up tonight.  Her fiancé was with her.  Pat & Lois came tonight to exchange gifts.  Bill and Christy came in a.m. to get their gifts and Jim’s.

Hilma had hair appointment at 10 a.m.  Linda and children came at 11 a.m.  I kept Jill while Linda shopped.  She brought fish sandwiches and french fries from MacDonald’s for our lunch.  We left here around 3 p.m., went to National for groceries, and back here to get side rail we forgot, and arrived in Virginia around 5 p.m.

Had breakfast at 8 a.m., then opened our gifts.  I received a gown and 5-year diary from Jim and family; bun basket and TV cover from Pat & Lois; 2 pillows and purse from M.E. and Bill; picture from Christy; gold beads and earrings, sewing basket, Avon spray powder, diary and address book from Linda and Jerry; pressing “ham” from Mark, and pressing “roll” from Jill; 4 sofa pillows from Lorene; Christmas candles & holder from Wes & Alice; and sewing box from Hilma.  Also, 2 lb. box dates from Charles Sutton.

Didn’t go home today as roads too icy.  Shortened curtains for east window in Jerry & Linda’s bedroom.  Helped Linda make divinity and pralines.  Hilma came home tonight.

Phoned Hilma from Virginia.  Mended Jill’s embroidered waterproof panties.  Mark used his sled first time in backyard.  We left Virginia at 8 p.m. and got here (1636 Homewood) at 9:20.  Stopped at IGA for a few groceries.  They went back immediately as roads were very treacherous.

Made a jumper for Jill with material (violet wool flannel) left from one of Linda’s maternity outfits.  Ordered a blouse from Bressmer’s to go with it.

Cut out green tweed skirt for Linda and worked on it.  Linda and children came at 1:45 p.m.  After 2 p.m. program, she and Mark went shopping.  Faye Delp came with slacks to be tapered.  Linda tried on skirt while she was here (5 p.m.), then they left for Virginia – took Jill’s jumper I made and blouse Bressmer’s delivered today.  Wrote “thank you” notes to Circle #2 and Charles Sutton.  Linda picked up my new Sears catalog; also Alden’s came in mail.

Started altering Mrs. Delp’s slacks and worked on Linda’s skirt.  Mary Ellen and Christy came this afternoon to bring Jill’s Christmas gift from Pat and Lois which was mistakenly put in with their gifts.  Linda phoned – they will be here for dinner tomorrow.

Hilma went to 10:30 church service with Louise.  She came back around noon.  Linda, Jerry, Mark & Jill came a little later and had dinner here.  We had tuna-noodle casserole, rolls, jello, green beans, relish dish, apple sauce, and sherbet.  For supper we had sandwiches, salad, chicken noodle soup, peaches and fruitcake.  Linda took down Christmas tree and Jerry fixed platform rocker.  Children stayed here this eve. while Jerry and Linda went with Barb & Allen Howard to movie then to Black Angus for dinner.
